The Dave song, while the acoustic cover sample it uses is rather generic, is growing on me a bit, its been in my head all day, but I would still like to see Aitch and Ashanti go to #1, its a pity that because the song is only big in the UK and not on the US Hot 100, it will be unlikely to lead to any other chart hits for Ashanti.
When is it going to ACR ? Damn I'm bored to see it in the top 3 again & again.

Once we have 3 consecutive weeks of declining streams. Unfortunately that doesn't appear to be starting until at least next week.....

I hate to be moaning about the charts being stale but they do seem to be this year and potentially could never improve. People are just not interested in new music as fast as they were previously- is it because of a general malaise due to cost of living/Covid/war etc or just people are more intrested in social media/Tik Tok etc? Or ideas in music done so many times nothing is really fresh? Probably combination of all 3. I don't think any more changing of chart rules can really help without charts becoming meaningless.
I'd say it's cos Spotify playlists are very stale, and as a consequence, the charts are stale too

The lack of big names releasing has definitely had an impact. The Grammys being pushed back to May might also be a factor, but I can imagine the Ukraine war situation has impacted some planned release schedules out of respect. There are also fewer platforms for mainstream exposure. If I didn’t follow new music Fridays I wouldn’t have known Michael buble had an album release. By no means is he a ‘Rihanna/Adele’ kinda name but would expect some buzz in the form of tv/radio promo/billboards etc. Rarely see music releases get big posters at bus stops like you would 10 years ago.

Still the top 2 are fresh and other releases are creeping in like Cat Burns so there is some clear appetite for new music. Peru and WAYN need to go ACR stat though.

Buble def had some promo this weekend I heard of but didn’t watch, was it Ant and Dec maybe?

I think people are interested more than ever in new music (just take a look at some of the streaming numbers for new releases) it’s just that this is outweighed by the sheer popularity of streaming and it essentially being a radio station for a lot of people that just press play on playlists.

OCC links go live at 5:45 for your other requests :magic: I am off to fangirl over the new Harry Styles single announced for Friday x

Those numbers seem awful for Bublé. He used to be so bankable to get a huge opening sale, but looks like he'll struggle to get near 20k. For Christmas only and not for life now I guess!

In other news three weeks of a top five with no movement? I hope Aitch pulls something out of the bag with promotion when he sees how close it is. I far prefer Dave as an artist, but Starlight is crazy dull, while Baby has a bit of a charm from the sample and the thought of the sight of Ashanti at No.1.

Not great at all for Michael Buble considering his last album opened with 67k. He did sell 2.2k yesterday which is decent but that was probably boosted mostly from Mother's Day and I suspect he'll fall short of 20k. That said, I didn't realise Buble's last album opened anywhere near 67k so I probably would have said these were okay (although still not great) sales for him. I did say in the iTunes album thread it would be close between Buble and MGK before learning of his previous sales opening and I guess I turned out to be right after all.

Playlist streanms shouldn't count unless the user created the playlist. We've never had airplay in the OCC before, why did we start when streaming came along? As stated above nonuser-generated playlists are essentially radio and as such shouldn't count...

OMG, go Placebo! :o

Looks like they've got their highest charting album ever in the bag :D

I hope so but the way Placebo's sales appear to be tailing off (only 400 on Sunday) suggests its gonna drop - though comparing with last week's total sales would expect it to end up in the top 5.
