Posted December 26, 20222 yr Christmas ends on the 6th of January, so why do most people stop listening to Christmas songs after Christmas Day? I've never understood it. :???:
December 26, 20222 yr Simple, Christmas proper is over. Most people want to go back to normal after all the build up and hard work getting ready and celebrations.
December 26, 20222 yr Traditionally yes Christmas starts on 25th December for 12 nights. But now, Christmas starts in October and finishes on 25th December. Modern times eh?
December 26, 20222 yr I assume Christmas songs in the lead up is about the building excitement of Christmas Day. That's what it is for me, and I listen to more and more as time goes on from 1st November to 25th December. After that, the excitement's not there anymore as the big day has happened. Christmas officially ending on 6th Jan means absolutely nothing to me, especially when I'm back to work before then...!!! I'll probably still listen to the odd Christmas song this week but nothing much.
December 26, 20222 yr because Christmas in this country is largely no longer a religious holiday but a commercialist one and there’s no point in retail advertising christmas after everyone’s bought and unwrapped all their presents and because retail push christmas on us from the start of november so for the most part everyone’s fed up with it after christmas day our family seemingly are one of the few who keep playing christmas music until the new year with new year’s day being when decorations are taken down and christmas music banned until the decorations go back up
December 26, 20222 yr I'm sure it was only in the early 2000s that radio stations in the UK at least started playing consistent Christmas music on December 1st. Edited December 26, 20222 yr by zenon
December 26, 20222 yr Because for most people it’s over after Christmas day, especially for those of us who are straight back to work. We keep our decs up until New Year’s Day but Christmas music is out after the day itself.
December 26, 20222 yr I listen to Christmas songs on Boxing Day but after that Christmas is over for me so no interest until Christmas tree goes up in December the following year!
December 26, 20222 yr I listen to the songs less after Christmas but not cause I deem it to end after Christmas. My mum continues Christmas for the 12 days too and decorations and tree usually come down on the 5th of Jan! I get the build up and people just being plain sick of the songs but I don't particularly like how it just resumes back to normal after Christmas or Boxing Day haha but that's just me!
December 26, 20222 yr i listen to the odd christmas songs in the days between christmas and new year if i'm in the mood, but yeah christmas ends (for me) boxing day at the very latest so theres no reason to listen to christmas songs anymore! I guess the music makes part of the build up to christmas, so now its done theres no point because its finished!
December 26, 20222 yr OMFG I WSS JUST THINKIN THIS TODAY!!! Tbh I usually stop the big hits today  and start with more melancholy, fownbeat Christmad music - Holly snd The Ivu, God Rest Ye, Carol of the Bells, I think it's called Emmanuel's Carol or December Carol??, Kate Bush, etc
December 26, 20222 yr Oh yes then I go into Mourning at it being over by playing Type O Negatives 'Christmas Mourning' ;) just to be on the depressive x I do wish there was as many New Years related songs as Christmas ones but sadly far lower!

December 26, 20222 yr Roba - put on Hurts - All I Want For Christmas is New Year’s day and that’s two in one
December 26, 20222 yr A fair question. I don't get why people stop listening to Xmas songs yet keep all their decs up? Surely you do both or neither depending on what side of the festive fence you sit. Edited December 26, 20222 yr by Dobbo.
December 26, 20222 yr and what exactly are people doing on boxing day then? its a public holiday so you’d expect streams of christmas songs to hold up somewhat yet every year they plummet
December 26, 20222 yr I make a point of still listening to Christmas songs at least semi-regularly until the 6th! For me it's nice to have a bit of a wind-down and not just stop all Christmas activities at the climax of Christmas Day.

Surely you do both or neither depending on what side of the festive fence you sit. I don’t particularly mind hearing Xmas songs before New Year, I just don’t go out of my way to listen to them during that time, they’ve still been on the radio at work today. Decs come down on NYD just because that’s how we’ve always done it and it’s a fitting end to the whole festive season. Don’t wanna be hearing Christmas music from 1st Jan onwards.
December 26, 20222 yr I find it sad hearing any Christmas songs after the 26th, hearing them is a reminder that Christmas is all but over for another year. Which is why I won't be listening to the UK official chart on Radio 1 on the 30th - I do wonder though how many Christmas songs they will play on that chart? Edited December 26, 20222 yr by TheSnake
