This just isn’t clicking with me, I’ve listened to it lots - maybe it will when I see the live performance?

At the moment it’s very much in the ‘overhyped by Eurovision fans’ category for me.

I don't think it's overhyped at all. He's a fun personality and the song is the most televote friendly IMO. It's crazy, it's party and there is nothing else like it. It's been in a lot of the Viral Spotify charts since it won UMK which is a good sign. I don't think it will get the jury support to finish 1st or 2nd overall though.

Juries should be there to make sure technical quality in the vocals and other areas is rewarded. They shouldn’t be there to punish things that are quirky and different and elevate MOR. (Not that I’m saying Loreen is MOR.) I don’t see any reason why they shouldn’t give this a high placing if it’s well done.

Some juries will be TV and entertainment executives - is Käärijä a good entertainment piece? Almost certainly. You could point out that similar entries haven't done well with the juries in the past, but those (like say, Hatari) were a lot more divisive.

Maybe he won't score well with the older music teachers and vocal coaches on the jury (and his vocals are still good!) but I'd be surprised if in actuality he was outside of the jury top 10.

Yeah I think that if he does get spanked by the juries there will be legitimate questions about the make up and purpose of the jury vote. From a musicality perspective, this is a very clever track. It mixes genres that don’t usually mesh in quite a clever way, it utilises multiple vocal techniques, and is generally a well crafted catchy track. I think it, on paper, is exactly what the juries should be voting for if you look at what they are supposed to be in the contest for
Yeah I think it'll still be a jury top 10, and hopefully that will be enough for an overall victory. The juries didn't punish Netta and her chicken noises too harshly when that was a favourite (not that the cynic in me is in any way suggesting that the EBU would say anything to influence the juries, but the likes of Hatari and KEiiNO were hardly seen as in contention to win in the same way...)
Finally heard this for the first time in Semi Final 1 and I do get the hype, it's a ludicrously catchy song and he has great stage presence - overall it's memorable. I could see it winning for sure (my heart is with Loreen though x)
It's catchy and the performance is very memorable, it's not a fantastic song by any means but ticks enough boxes to pick up a lot of votes.
