Most of us probably got our first mobile phone in the noughties, despite them being around a lot earlier than that.

I remember my sister was carrying some brick around with her in 1998, when we went on holiday to the Isle of Wight.

But I didn't get my first phone until I was 15 at the age of 2002, they did very little still back then so I didn't feel like I was greatly missing out.

I never did own a Nokia! My first was a little red Sagem phone:

I kept it for a while as it was quite comfortable to use, I liked the buttons on it. I subsequently went through various other Sagem and LG mobiles before getting a swanky Sony Ericsson flat flip cover phone, so I could blast out Cascada on the back of the bus.

Remember when buying ringtones was a thing? Tinny 30 second versions of Rihanna and Crazy Frog hits

What did everyone else have as their first mobile, and what do you remember about them?

This was my first mobile phone and I still remember the number for it as well. I think I got it around 2001!

I went to a Nokia 3310 after this if I remember rightly!

I got my first one in 1998 or 1999 but it was one of these, a Nokia 5110:

I basically liked the idea of having one that you could change the colour of so I had about 10 fronts for it, I stuck with Nokia phones for my first few.

However this was my favourite of my first few, the 8210, I remember being so amazed at how tiny it was! It was such a cool phone

I feel so old I cant even remember my first one.

I feel like it was a Motorola and it was like a brick and calls cost 50p a minute. I once spent 10 minutes on the phone with a friend who lived four streets up from me, just because it was cool!

I definitely had a Nokia 3310 after that

BT Cellnet in the summer of 1999. It had a little ariel too! I thought I was so cool, hardly anyone at work had one

I think that was my mum’s first phone!

My first phone was a Sony Ericsson T610 - it was my mum's but she passed it on to me. I think this was in 2006 when I was about 8/9 years old.

I mostly remember having High School Musical ringtones, freaking out if I accidentally opened up the internet on it and attaching a tacky phone charm :P

I can't remember exactly what my first phone was, but after a quick Google search it looked a bit like a Samsung Champ:

It came with a small screen and a stylus to tap it (which I subsequently lost and just used my nail!) - I got it for my 11th birthday in late 2010 and kept it until I was about 14.

Completely forgot about the changeable faceplates!

And how easy it was to change the battery. To change an iPhone battery feels like it requires an engineering qualification.

Ha, yeah, it was like oops that's £1 of my credit gone.

I would post mine but I lost it on the school bus whilst on a trip  :( can't remember what is was now either as I've had plenty since and that was like 2007 lol.
I had some silver BT thing that looked like a house phone, antenna and everything. Wish I knew what it was called so I could post it. After that it was the Nokia 3330

I remember a girl at college accidentally brought in her house phone one day instead of her mobile, as I guess they looked similar at the time. I was in hysterics, she kept going on about being worried about her Mum not being able to take calls etc

My first phone was a Nokia 3410! I got it for my 16th birthday in February 2004, so I was a bit of latecomer to mobile phones. My parents wouldn’t let me have one any earlier but I managed to convince them at that point that it was necessary. I was so happy with it. I was on pay as you go, so I was semi regularly buying credit. 10p per text! :drama:

I was a bit similar. But once I got a part time job and could pay for it myself then I could get one.

My first phone was the LG CG180.

This was in 2008 around my 17th birthday, I actually wasn't interested in owning a cell phone but was traveling without my parents that summer so I needed one to call home. It was pay-as-you-go, which technically I still do but now it's just an automatic monthly pre-pay without a contract. It looks so small now and I can't believe I used it back in the day to vote for American Idol. This one lasted me almost two years, one day the screen just randomly blacked out and couldn't be repaired! I still have it though in case I decide some day to put it in a museum or something.

My first ringtone was Utah Saints - Something Good 08 but I can't remember if that was on this phone or my second phone.

Motorola C250 when I started secondary school

could barely do text messages and had some Pong-like football game I think, replaced it after a year or two with a Sony Ericsson K550i which lasted forever, well into the early smartphone era, I remember really liking the feel of the buttons on this one, plus, unlike the first one, it could take pictures, play video and actual music, if slightly difficult to get much variety of the latter two on there outside of radio for music.
