[ 26 ] Lana Del Rey - A&W (#41)

[ 23 ] Niall Horan - Heaven (#18)

[ 20 ] beabadoobee - Glue Song (#38)

[ 17 ] P!nk - When I Get There (#44)

[ 12 ] SZA - Low (#83)

[ 6 ] Caity Baser - Pretty Boys (#91)

[ 5 ] NF - HOPE (#48)

[ 3 ] D-Block Europe - Barbie (#49)

[ 2 ] Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners - Evergreen (#88)

[ 1 ] (Prinz / TRINIX), Rushawn and Jermaine Edwards - Beautiful Day (Thank You For Sunshine) (#63)

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 8 and auto-qualifying for the February monthly round is Lana Del Rey - A&W.

One of the closest results so far with the lead changing a couple of times but in the end it is American songstress Lana Del Rey who prevails with her 7 minute opus, blending elements of indie folk and psychedelic trap and providing my personal favourite top 100 hit of the year so far, and serving as the second single from her upcoming 8th album 'Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd'. It picked up a nod from exactly half of voters in a week which had the second highest turnout so far, only one behind the first week (hooray!) - this win some consolation for it just barely missing out on giving her a first top 40 hit as lead artist since 2017 and first entirely solo since 2014, grr.

It was a poll of two halves with the top 5 getting double figure votes while the other 6 were a way back. Directioner Niall Horan's lead single from his third album was threatening to beat Lana at points but finishes 2nd 3 votes behind, then beabadoobee's dose of sugar giving her a first solo hit finished 3 further votes back and P!nk's ode to her late father another 3 votes behind that in fourth. SZA rounds out the top 5. After a few weeks in a row where every song got at least 5 votes, there are a whole four songs this week that fall short of that, although none that join Clavish's 'No Difference' in the 0 votes club. Wonder who our silent Rushawn et al. fan was x

~

After having the most contenders to date last week, we now have the fewest with just four new entries this week! Totalling a mere 12 minutes and 8 seconds. Think the winner is pretty obvious here but we go ahead as usual anyway, never know x

(monthly round for February coming up shortly as well to give something more substantial to vote in this week x)

edit: 'PAINTING PICTURES' got taken off Spotify oops, here's a YouTube link

edit 2: it's back now so removed the YouTube link x

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

You have until Saturday evening ish as usual :jump:

Very pleased that Lana secured a victory in the end  as for this week:

01. Gorillaz - Silent Running (feat. Adeleye Omotayo) (#97)

02. KAROL G and Shakira - TQG (#88)

03. Superstar Pride - PAINTING PICTURES (#33)

04. JayO - 22 (#67)

Just voted for Gorillaz. Another really obvious winner for me again like Lana as it was the only one to make my chart. I like the synth-wave feel to it.

Voted Gorillaz in an easy win here and threw a vote for TQG, I wasn’t totally against ‘Painting Pictures’ but the lyrics really put me off it, and the ‘22’ song is just bad all over.

Superstar Pride - PAINTING PICTURES (#33) - this does nothing for me

JayO - 22 (#67) - this does nothing for me

KAROL G and Shakira - TQG (#88) - standard wallpaper reggaetón fodder

Gorillaz - Silent Running (feat. Adeleye Omotayo) (#97) - nice chill track

Weak week. Gorillaz only.

Just Gorillaz for me, predictably enough. TQG is OK but didn’t do enough for a vote.

1. Gorillaz - Silent Running (feat. Adeleye Omotayo)

2. KAROL G and Shakira - TQG

3. JayO - 22

4. Superstar Pride - PAINTING PICTURES

Voting for Gorillaz and Karol G! I thought the JayO song was ok but I see that's not a popular opinion

1) Gorillaz - Silent Running (feat. Adeleye Omatayo): Fantastic track from a great record. Whats not to love, the amazing vocals from Adeleye as well!

The rest were meh...

Gorillaz - Silent Running (feat. Adeleye Omotayo) (#97)

KAROL G and Shakira - TQG (#88)

Superstar Pride - PAINTING PICTURES (#33)

JayO - 22 (#67)

Not a vintage week :')

Easiest week so far. Been enjoying the Gorillaz track for weeks now, so happy it charted.

1. JayO - 22

2. Gorillaz - Silent Running (feat. Adeleye Omotayo)

3. KAROL G and Shakira - TQG

4. Superstar Pride - PAINTING PICTURES

Not really a fan of any of them this week but I've given JayO a vote because it's catchy and I can't imagine many other people with. The Gorillaz track is nice but not the type of song I enjoy from them. I like Shakira's parts on 'TQG' but Karol G's parts bring it down. 'Painting Pictures' is just a pretty non-descript Trap song. I've no idea why it's blew up.

Lol well the Spotify playlist for this week is even shorter now as the Superstar Pride song got removed from Spotify oop. Both the audio version and the viral live performance video got taken off his YouTube channel as well, RIP. (Seems to still be on iTunes/Apple Music fine though )

I added a YouTube link (that is still working for now too) for it in the OP for completeness.

Will definitely get the next thread up on Saturday evening on schedule this time so less than 24 hours left for any more votes to make this foregone conclusion even more foregone (or less, if you wish x)

A bit more to choose between in the next poll.

1 'TQG' - Shakira having my fave new entry of the week twice this year :cheeseblock: albeit requiring a very dead week to get it this time as this one is not quite as interesting as the Bizarrap session, it's a pretty standard reggaetón bop but KAROL G tends to sell this sound to me better than most of her contemporaries for whatever reason (although her Becky G collab was super boring so it doesn't work every time x) and this is no exception, this is one of the best I've heard from this era, can see it being quite an earworm 8/10

2 'Silent Running' - my least favourite of the singles from this Gorillaz album as it's a pretty formulaic synthpop song but still well made and decently catchy, glad it finally charted with the album release 7.5/10

3 'PAINTING PICTURES' - a perfectly decent trap song, no idea what was so compelling about this to make it blow up so much but sure 6/10

4 '22' - sounds like a more boring version of B Young, not terrible but pass on this 4/10

Voted for the top 2, first week so far that hasn't had a song I rated 9/10 or higher but still did well to get 2 pretty good highlights out of only 4 new entries.

Closer result between the top 2 in this poll than I expected! (Oop at this having the lowest number of votes of these polls so far though, maybe I need to emphasise again that if people don't want to vote for any of the songs I'd still encourage hitting the null vote option rather than ignoring the poll entirely x)

New poll up shortly ~
