March 17, 20233 yr Shame Tom was still a fair bit off, was praying it could sneak in such a beautiful song live
March 17, 20233 yr 2008 1- MERCY- Duffy (40,778) 2- BETTER IN TIME/ FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND- Leona Lewis (40,476) OMG that means it is about 15 years since one of Buzzjack's most iconic posts *.*
March 17, 20233 yr Lewis needs to do some serious campaigning if he wants to be #1 next week as next week will be his only chance of getting #1
March 18, 20233 yr OMG that means it is about 15 years since one of Buzzjack's most iconic posts *.* Which iconic post was this?
March 19, 20233 yr OMG that means it is about 15 years since one of Buzzjack's most iconic posts *.*That post was actually from a Gezza thread years later, so it's just over 10 years old now! Which iconic post was this?http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=4117272
March 19, 20233 yr Don’t you know I’m human too? 15 years since 'Mercy' gosh. I've been hearing 'Warwick Avenue' around quite a bit lately!
March 19, 20233 yr That post was actually from a Gezza thread years later, so it's just over 10 years old now! http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=4117272 Thanks for answering this as I was wondering too :kink: (though I do remember this now I see it x)
March 19, 20233 yr I'm very familiar with kobbar's oeuvre, but I'd actually never seen that post until now! WOW. Is all I have to say.
March 19, 20233 yr Oh it turns out it wasn’t even made at the time then, it was actually after 4 years of silent simmering at the atrocity!
March 19, 20233 yr In fairness, that’s the clearest example I can think of of a record being rightfully denied a #1 (before ACR). You can also make a an argument for Life Is a Rollercoaster getting a second week, but that’s a bit less clear cut.
March 19, 20233 yr In retrospect given what actually happened to Duffy, that post is really eerie now
March 20, 20233 yr In fairness, that’s the clearest example I can think of of a record being rightfully denied a #1 (before ACR). You can also make a an argument for Life Is a Rollercoaster getting a second week, but that’s a bit less clear cut. I think it had been confirmed by one official chart authority or another that Happy Xmas (War Is Over) was actually the biggest seller in a week at the end of 1980 but this was in the days when the chart was frozen in the post-Xmas week. So i'd say that's equal. Of course the Sex Pistols also have to be mentioned but that very much depends on who you believe there's been so many accounts of it.
March 20, 20233 yr I talked about the Leona double A-side in my unluckiest #2 song poll a couple of years ago, although I didn't include it in the poll itself - I would have done if I'd remembered it at the time, along with Years & Years - Shine. However I wouldn't say it was "rightfully" denied #1 as neither of those Leona songs outsold Duffy that week.
