Posted March 27, 20232 yr When will enough be enough? @1640218546344009732 It just feels like to me that this case just goes on and on and we never really get any closer to finding out the truth about it and it does make you wonder that if it was a family who were worse off or even a non-white family, would this case be closed? The parents would absolutely have been imprisoned right now for gross negligence at the very least. It's really infuriating that the parents haven't been the stronger suspects in all this. It's the biggest unsolved case in my lifetime, but I think it's time to let it rest now. The money being pumped into it is clearly not getting us any closer and I think it's fair to say that it's just wasted at this point.
March 27, 20232 yr I don't really understand what they can still be doing. It's been ages now, I had no idea we were still paying for this and I think it's ridiculous that we are.
March 27, 20232 yr To be fair there are many missing persons cases that never close and are still ongoing today. Some which have been going for 30+ years. It's just in this instance this is a very public case so all details about this get publicised for a lot of people to see.
March 27, 20232 yr The parents had a lot of scrutinity on them at the time, so I'm not too sure some of those comments are fair. As much as they were culpable for leaving Madeline and the other children alone, at the end of the day, someone abducted her. I think the investigation at the gtime focused on the parents so much that is ultimately led to why we're in this position today. I suspect part of the reason the Home Office keep throwing money at is the high profile of the case and probably how the investigation was handled at the time. I still suspect that German dude is the most likely culpable suspect based off of everything I have read, but you never know if they can't charge him.
March 27, 20232 yr It's because both of them are in the pockets of the Tory Party, that's how and why they keep securing funding for it. It's ridiculous.

So yeah, they were unfairly accused of killing their daughter for a while but negligence is negligence at the end of the day.
March 27, 20232 yr Unless these funds mean that they will finally be prosecuted for wilful negligence leading to the death of a child, I don’t see what the point in continuing to fund this is
March 27, 20232 yr It's a tragic case obviously, but this no longer helping anyone and is frankly a waste of resources in this current climate, it's nothing but an empty media circus that gives no one closure, and I agree, the fact that it's a white, upper-middle-class family is definitely a contributing factor to why it's still so publicised, funded and the media's go-to story. I hasten to think of the amount of missing children since this case that have got a fraction of this attention...

It's just in this instance this is a very public case so all details about this get publicised for a lot of people to see. A case still being open isn't the same as £14M worth of activity though And if it transpired that other cases were also costing that much, I wouldn't be supporting spending that much on them either. I know it must be difficult for the families etc but unless there are actually new leads to follow then I can't see the point.
March 27, 20232 yr Too much is fishy about this. If it ever comes out the parents were involved the public are going to be furious at the wasted money. For me it has always been weird that the parents have point blank refused to help in a reconstruction of the crime scene, or even to go back to Portugal at all. If it was my child I wouldn't be able to leave until I knew I'd done all humanly possible. Besides that the fact they never spend any of their own ample fortune on this...

Oh totally and what the current funds are going to be used for is questionable given all we know so far. Was more so making a point it's not unique in a missing persons case continuing after a long period of time. It can be difficult to say when enough is enough and to end an investigation - particularly for family and friends of the loved one missing. Some eventually do get solved and the family/friends are able to get closure.
March 28, 20232 yr someone abducted her. Are you sure about that? Do some digging for yourself. ;) There was no evidence of any abduction. None whatsoever. Cadaver dogs reacted in their car and with her cuddle toy. The lead Portuguese investigator knew more than any of us does and says she had an accident and it was covered up. He stands by that to this day and wrote a book that they tried to get banned. Edited March 28, 20232 yr by crazy chris
March 28, 20232 yr At this point I definitely don't think its worth the use of any more public money to investigate without solid new information, but I would be lying if I said I didn't still take an interest in what happened. Maybe it's because it was one of the first national news stories that I really followed. I also share the opinion that her parents have always been red flags and I don't just mean in terms of negligence.
