I know there's slight overlap here with Tafty's poll for March 14th releases, but there are other contenders too aside from just the new releases... so 'Pink Pony Club' looks safe for this week, but ahead of Calvin, Chappell and Jade releasing their new singles this Friday, what do we think will be the UK's next number one single?

The poll will be open until 12pm on Sunday, at which point it may start to become obvious if there will be a new number one next week.

Life for Rent wasn't bigger than No Angel though. It got off to a faster start, for sure, but in the end, No Angel is certified 10x platinum and Life for Rent is 9x platinum. You may disparage James B

Personally I've voted for 'The Giver' - even though we haven't heard the studio version yet, anticipation seems high for it.

Can only see The Giver or Ordinary being number one out of these

that sure has more chances than Jade or Calvin

I actually think a Harry Style out of the blue drop is long overdue

but voted Chappell's newbie

Without hearing 'The Giver', I can't be certain - it'll surely be a huge hit, but she's never even debuted in the Top 20 before, so I'm not sure an instant #1 is now a "given". I'd say 'Ordinary' will definitely be ahead of 'Pink Pony Club' next week, so voted for that.

To be fair, her last "new" release was 'Good Luck, Babe' and a lot has happened for her in the time between!

I can’t see Chappell not getting #1 with the hype behind her now. Wouldn’t mind if anxiety does climb enough to overtake, but not sure it will have enough momentum by next week.

Tbf , everything that has charted since GLB was released pre GLB , and GLB was the song that put her in the limelight, so technically this is the first new bit of music and her first chance to "debut top 20" since GLB

The way that Anxiety has been increasing (from 11 to 7 between Monday and Wednesday midweeks, I think that has a good shot.

Thats one argument I always disagree with. It's like saying Sam Fender cannot do >100K with his new album cos he's never done it before. Of course he can. It's the "you reap what you've sown" argument. If you have a huge era like he did with 17, that affects the next one. And it's the same with Chappell. This era has made her the biggest star in the world. So the next one is gonna be gigantic. And it's been the same with Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles etc

I didn't say she couldn't debut at #1, and indeed it wouldn't surprise me if she did. I'm just saying we don't have any previous opening numbers for comparison, so it's difficult to quantify how much it could open with, especially without hearing the song.

Yeah I find it really hard to predict how any new song will do out of the blocks these days. Hype doesn’t seem to be enough - it needs to be making it into Instagram reels.

How do you know this isn't her peak though?

There are a plethora of artists who peak with their breakthrough era that makes them household names and then decline after that, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, 50 Cent, Lady Gaga, Alanis Morisette, Olivia Rodrigo, Duffy, James Blunt, Ke$ha, etc.

I think Dido is another example, maybe. Arguably only a very slight decline on her 2nd album but it didn't follow the logic of "my breakthrough era made me a huge star so my next one will be bigger".

I'm not sure if last year was Chappell's 1st album (and i think technically it wasnt Alanis Morisette's 1st album, etc), but she broke through in the mainstream and became a household name and it's functionally hardly any different to what happened with these other artists, and why I specifically chose "breakthrough era" instead of "1st album" in the previous paragraph.
