Let’s hope it doesn’t sound rushed as Manchild was essentially a Short n Sweet B-Side

Oh wow, I really thought Manchild was going to be a standalone single, not actually a fully fledged first single.

I am hoping, that while Manchild has grown on me, there is a slight shift in sound for this rather than it feeling like Short N Sweet part two. I definitely think she has it in her, she’s a great talent, writer and performer.

I do love a quick turnaround though! Used to be so exciting when Rihanna did this every winter back in the early 2010s.

I'm fully on board. She said something about how she got inspired to make a new album but was worried it was too soon until she saw that some of her favorite artists did yearly releases. She said it might not be what she does beyond this year, but it put her mind at ease that she could do it now

On another site on manchild release night, I saw someone saying that they didnt manchild as a lead single. And I thought about it for a minute, and disagreed. To me it sounded like a track 1. In emails I cant send, the title track was track 1, a song about how her dad cheating on her mom caused her issues that manifested in her relationships, and then that was basically the theme of the album. With sns, taste opened us with the story of the album and the energy that she would use to talk about this story and would ultimately hurt her by the end of the album. To me, I thought manchild would be a great track 1 for an album about how her choices lead her to be in terrible relationships with awful men.

According to apple music, it is track 1, and to me the album artwork only furthers to me what this album will be

I really thought Manchild was just a one off kind of thing to say goodbye to the S&S era, I’m not holding out a huge amount of hope if it’s indicative of the next album. I’ve just had enough of the sound from her already and she is easily capable of so much more.

Before 'Manchild' was released, I did wonder if we'd be getting a new Sabrina album sooner than expected. She strikes me as the type of artist that would write music whilst on the road and I thought she would want to offer something new for the second US leg of the tour later in the year. 'Manchild' very much feels like a continuation of the 'Short N Sweet' sound so I thought that one or two songs might be the extent of the new music. Hopefully there is a progression of sound on this next album; I like 'Manchild' but, as others have said numerous times, it's very "heard it all before but not as good second time round".

I’m pleasantly surprised that she’s moving on to a new era so quickly!

Sound-wise, I have faith that the album will showcase some progression as well as familiarity. I know Manchild as a first taste isn’t moving the dial, but maybe she’s easing us in with a surefire/tried and tested sound. Or maybe the album will end up being Short n Sweet Part 2 lol

About a half hour before the album was announced, she went on IG live, going through vinyls before displaying the Man's Best Friend one. I'm assuming they are a sign of the types of sounds youll here on the album. Here's what they were:

10cc- The Original Soundtrack

Donna Summer- Bad Girls

ABBA - ABBA

Carole King- Pearls: Songs of Goffin & King

Carly Simon- The Best of Carly Simon

Dolly Parton- Heartbreaker

It's getting a little bashing across socials but I actually like the album cover!

I think this will keep her firmly in the pop princess of the moment title as well. Good move to not take ages to follow up what's been one hell of a breakthrough era for her.

I do hope the rest of the album offers something slightly different. I'm here for her ballad moment now!

I guess she is claiming to be like a dog with the Man's Best Friend title but it does look a little bit "sexualised domestic abuse." Not a cover I would have chosen to go with. 🤔

The thing is with Sabrina, everything comes with a wink wink nudge nudge. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that she does songs about killing men/insulting men and now she’s like “look at me, under a man’s leash”. It’s not about playing into the male gaze or being hypocritical at all, I think that’s such a base level, overthought way of interpreting it.

I think that, in a Madonna kind of way, it's all done with tongue in cheek.

When I first saw the album cover, I thought it was a brave move for 2025 and all the shock, horror, offence that will be taken from it.
