Sales are in, and a statement from the OCC regarding HAVEN. - I Run:

  • I am also rooting for raye but it’s a damaging take to say work that people have put effort into in is ai!

  • Isn't it a bit deeper than that in the sense that it's an AI mock-up of her voice?

WHERE IS MY HUSBAND! has a new David Guetta & Hypaton remix along with a new 7” pressing so looks like they may be pushing for #1 next week? Release date on the new vinyl says today so I presume they’ll ship within this upcoming tracking week. I’ll update when I receive mine

'LUX' breaking the record for the highest charting album by a Spanish woman sounds like something resembling a notable record on paper but actually have any other Spanish women ever charted before? lol She might well have already held that record from 'MOTOMAMI' charting at #42. Maybe I'm missing something obvious though.

Fantastic to see her clearing 5 figures anyway and being comfortably top 5 (so close to top 3), plus managing to get 3 songs in the singles chart and even snagging a #1 on the ever important album downloads chart *.* (#4 on both sales and physicals and #7 on streaming, higher than Bad Bunny's latest album managed!) Much too early to start thinking about the follow-up really but with how well received this album has been it does make you wonder if the momentum can continue enough for her to be contending for a #1 next time around...

Think he made an error, he said West End Girl “holds” at #3 but it fell from #2 last week.

Is Shakria not Spanish or Gloria Estefan?

Diva we can dislike songs but let’s not brand things we don’t like as “AI” please!

Hope they really push for it. Would love it to get there, can’t see it happening but who knows !

Assuming 'Man I Need' had download sales of at least 134, it wouldn't have been #1 on SCR. It has returned to #1 on audio streaming and moved back ahead of 'The Fate Of Ophelia' on combined streaming though!

I don't think the OCC will be able to ban songs for being AI. Firstly, I can guarantee there are songs currently charting that have used AI in some form. There are AI plug-ins and other tools for mixing, mastering, etc, which use AI, and they are bound to be being used loads already. And secondly, you're not going to be able to tell if AI is used in a song most of the titime. I think it would be a bit of a mess if they tried to do that, and if they do, they'll probably have to reverse the rules quickly.

James Masterton has posted about 'I Run' by Haven. on his weekly chart commentary at his website:

AIIIIII

But we should finish on something a little out of the ordinary, noting a track that is not on the charts at all. Midweek sales flashes all noted the startling rise of a club track called I Run, credited to Haven and which was last week's No.56 single. Based on early data it would not have been a surprise to see the single on the cusp of the Top 10. But instead it is excluded completely. The reason is due to legal pressure from a number of sources which have seen takedown notices issued to DSPs (although the track can still be easily found on YouTube). Most people had convinced themselves that the uncredited singer was Jorja Smith, or was very least sampled from her. But it rather appears that the voice had been entirely AI-generated - and it was that bit that was the legally problematic part.

Official Charts gave Music Week a statement on the matter, which I reproduce here: "It is against Official Charts Company policy to include within our charts any repertoire which is believed to potentially be infringing. We have received notification that a series of takedown notices have been issued to DSPs in relation to the track I Run by Haven. Our understanding is that these takedown notices have been or are in the process of being implemented. As a consequence, this track is suspended today from the Official Singles Charts.”

Parts of the music industry are (not unreasonably) shitting themselves over the prospect of AI-generated music becoming a thing, although the major label signing recently of Xania Monet (who does not exist and is an AI avatar for a poet who doesn't herself sing) proves that others are ready to embrace it. AI generated music that is a knock off of an established name though? Perhaps that is a little too close to the knuckle.

I've tried correcting him several times but it just went unnoticed so I gave up sad I'm glad someone else has pulled him up on it though. I wouldn't care that much normally but he seems to say "could of" in 50% of his posts!

You can make a rule that if they catch you doing AI, theyll remove you. Thats kinda how all rules work lol, if they cant catch you they cant punish you. Nothing is stopping you from going into Tesco and stealing a ham right now. And if somehow you walk out undetected, you wont get any punishment for stealing. It doesnt mean they shouldn't make laws against stealing, it just means you got away with violating the rules

And either way, they arent saying AI songs are banned per se, it's against the rules to infringe on other's rights. They'd use the same rule to say you cant sample someone else's song without permission. Theoretically, if Jorja Smith and her label agreed to let haven use AI to imitate her, it wouldnt run afoul of OCC rules
