She added 5K since Monday. And she needs another 5K to where Kylie is now, so I’d say it’s unlikely as Kylie will still add some more sales. But it will be close.

Olivia added similar last week between Monday and Wednesday and then added around 8000 to end up at 20K.

Kylie has only added 1500 between Monday and Wednesday, so doesn't look like adding much more unless the pop-up sales are not yet counted. She needs another 3500-4000 maybe more to secure Number 1.

It will be so annoying if she loses out on an 11th Number 1!

I thought this too. I often compare the track to Kelly Clarkson's as they both came out the same year and are up there as the "contemporary classics" but Kelly has seemingly flown away this year!

I still find it baffling that users on these forums don’t register that an American Spotify playlist is dictating chart positions here in the UK.

Laufey? Dean Martin? The Ronettes? Sabrina Carpenter? Nat King Cole?

Artists virtually with zero chart history at Xmas yet are high on the Spotify playlist.

I don’t know if artists pay to be bumped up but I’d imagine if Leona was in the top 40 on that playlist (currently at number 66), we’d be celebrating British representation on the charts.

Compared with Apple…where Leona is rightfully teetering Top 10 all the time. Radio play? Good. Music video charts? Good.

Imagine the UK charts favouring UK talent/songs….

Spotify is US-dominated a lot of the time. Amazon and Apple do better with regional playlisting. Sadly Leona has always been fairly low on the main playlist - a lot of her peak positions in other countries have been due to where on the main playlist the song sits. I was hoping that she might fair a bit better this year as she's in the US doing a Christmas-themed Las Vegas residency but alas no.

Olivia is probably looking at similar if not higher sales this week than last? Her album track streams on spotify are generally up on last week, albeit not by much. I can't see Kylie getting the #1 unless she does a final big push?

Im slightly worried about kylie losing that number 1 album, i know 5k is still a decent lead but really hoping she doesnt lose the number 1 at the last minute.

There always seems to be less streaming data added to album in the update compared to the final stats on Fridays so unfort think this will sway it for Olivia - she has so many tracks in the apple top 200 from her album even now 2 months after release.

On a brighter note ‘Hot in December’ by Kylie has been added as track 4 on the Apple Music ‘Christmas Hits’ playlist, the 2nd most popular one.

Personally kylies team haven't been trying hard enough like they normally do cmon Olivia

I think Kelly's song sounds more universally Christmassy a la Mariah (hence its more successful endurance)whereas Leona's song sounds like a love song that could be played at any time of the year and just doesn't scream Christmas in my opinion.

I too wonder if there’s going to be a load of think pieces about Wham being Cmas number one a third time running which will push the OCC into doing something similar to what Australia have going on.

there’s already been one BBC article moaning about how Wham seemingly have it every year now.

Yes, it has basically killed off the Christmas No.1 race for good until something changes, and also more or less shut down the UK music industry in December. Surely at some point something will be changed although if the songs were just moved to another chart like Australia, by their rules wouldn't Amazon exclusives just run rampant at No.1 here every year, as Australia are moving songs older than two years over rather than Christmas songs specifically.

One More Sleep sounds incredibly Christmassy to me! The bells, the choir, Motown-esque feel to it, and of course the lyrics.

I don't think how its performing at this point has much to do with what it sounds like. As mentioned, it just isn't as strongly supported on Spotify compared to other Christmas songs, and that might be because it's more of a UK specific Christmas hit. The US centric playlists have a lot of dominance. Kelly Clarkson has that additional advantage of being high up on those playlists.

I don’t think it’s killing off the Christmas no1 when their acr ‘sales’ are 45-60k, it just needs artists to have the confidence to move their releases back to Q4 from late summer - early November. Or failing that try and just release a big cd/formats to increase sales enough to claim the top spot back.

Agreed on this, if it was the sound that was the case then loads of other modern songs would be climbing and establishing themselves too but they don’t for example Ariana/Kelly Clarkson (although this is gaining each year), Ava Max, Perrie and Taylor Swift.

I always find myself perplexed at why the US doesn’t support One More Sleep.

It’s got everything a good Xmas song needs to have and it’s not like Leona is unknown there.

It just deserves to be a global Xmas classic like Underneath the Tree but obviously it’s success is at the mercy of the Spotify playlists.

Surely the labels of these British artists can do something to put balance and variety back into the playlists.

Would big artists really still clear the same numbers in late December though as if they released their single in summer? November yes maybe but they’d be much further down the chart by Christmas.

A major act releasing a non seasonal single on Christmas week these days might get one or two big days before everyone goes straight back to their Christmas playlists, and I fear a lot of the major artists know this.

In December 2020 we had Taylor lead Willow dive 3-37 and Ed’s Afterglow debuted at No.30 after being tipped as a potential late Christmas No.1 raid by some - I wouldn’t be surprised if Ed himself thought it might be in the mix even though he said words opposite to that effect at the time. I know there were other reasons for their performances but I suspect they were enough to put some other artists off.

To me it feels like 50k is a mountain to climb for any non Christmas song in mid to late December, much harder to achieve than any other time of the year.

Harry Styles could probably do it with a lead single right now but even so, why risk it. January sales would be much bigger and any new song would be given much more support and hype then. Until the Christmas songs are moved out of the way somehow I don’t see things changing.

Take it there's no sign of Mr Blobby in the Top 100 despite so many of us marking its landmark 32nd birthday by streaming it to death now we finally can.

Oooh, blobby.

Might take Amazon up on the offer of the 99p Kylie download and add it to Spotify as a local file.

Still haven't heard it!

I agree with this. Underneath the tree is probably my favourite Christmas song though so I am biased 🤣

Don't download until Friday please!! Every sale counts towards a possible top 10 in the Xmas Chart ho ho ho

Still not sure if there should be a legacy chart for the UK so all of the Christmas songs can go in there instead of the main chart. But then again this is what people are listening to atm and the charts should reflect that, but at the same time, it just makes it harder for new artists to break through. 🤷‍♂️

Yeh I get that, they are great examples of the biggest artists of this decade that were not able to break the Christmas streaming monopoly but this decade has also shown how 99p singles can push average streaming performance into the top 5. That’s what big artists should do on Xmas week then as you say January is the bonanza of new music these days due to the Nov-Jan period being slowed down.

Hell, hopefully we get an example of that next week with Kylie 🙏🏻
