  • Yes, I can confirm I'll be hosting the number 9 poll next year.

  • Or maybe Bananarama's version leans in more to people's pop tastes rather than being to do with recency? A 40 year old song isn't really that much more recent compared to a 56 year old song!

1. Robyn - Dancing On My Own 1526pts

Writers - Robyn, Patrik Berger

Top scores - Liamski689 50, dandy* 50, chrissmith276 50

Low scores - Scone1 12, Popchartfreak 13, Bror 16

Average score - 35.5

Dancing On My Own is Buzzjack's favourite UK number 8 single, finishing 70 points ahead of 'Back To Black'. Robyn is the first solo artist to win one of these polls since Madonna won the number 1 single poll with 'Like A Prayer'. 20 voters out of 43 put the song in their top 10 while no one put it in their bottom 10. Released in 2010, the song was Robyn's fourth top 10 hit. A cover version by Calum Scott reached number 2 in 2016. It's a double celebration for Robyn this evening as she also has her first top 10 album with 'Sexistential'.

Shame Amy missed out but runner up is an excellent result. A fitting tribute in the 15th year since she left a great legacy of work.

Fair enough at Robyn winning, it's a very good pop song. Back To Black ended up low in my ranking but I don't mind it too much, wouldn't have had it as a winner though. Thanks for hosting Rollo, it's been fun!

I'm happy with the winner, but both are still great so I wouldn't have minded really either way!

'Dancing On My Own' has really taken on a whole life of its own since its release, when it was first out it seemed like one of those typical top 10 hits that fell away quickly in that era.

Thanks for running this Rollo, great as ever :)

See you all in ‘27 for #9 heaven!

Thank you Rollo for hosting and the great presentation of the results.

I wished Amy would have won as "Back To Black" is one of the greatest songs of all time. The Robyn song is fine, but not among my biggest favourites from the list.

Thanks for all your hard work Rollo, as always I really enjoyed the whole project. Fantastic!

Thanks as ever Rollo! I hadn’t clocked that we’d had 6 group winners in a row actually, so definitely nice to have a solo artist and the first winner from the 2010s. I still wonder if there’ll ever be a winner from before I was born but I’ll look forward to it whatever.

Was really rooting for Amy to pull it out there but not surprising (and I see it wasn't even close) that Robyn took it given the song's previous successes in Record of the Decade and whatnot - I do like 'Dancing On My Own' but unfortunately I think my enjoyment of it has been permanently stunted a little by the existence of the horrible and unavoidable Calum Scott cover (not her fault but it is what it is). So again not surprised to see my name being among its lowest scores.

The rest of the top 5 all ranked very highly for me though so no further complaints! Thanks for running this once again Rollo x

I shall be awaiting a Robyn victory.

And if something else wins then I’ll be editing Rollo’s posts with the correct result.

Glad to see I didn’t have to edit the results after all 🤩

Thank you for this, fascinating

'Back to Black' is such a haunting song. I've been revisiting the album in general recently after Mark Ronson's BRITs medley reminded me how strong a body of work they created together. 'Dancing On My Own' has really crept up on me over the years; Robyn has a knack for a synthy 'sad banger'. It feels like quite an influential record sonically with recent hits like 'Trustfall', 'we can't be friends (wait for your love)' and JADE's 'Plastic Box' adopting a similar sound. Agreed the less said about the Calum Scott cover the better though x

'Back to Black' was my preferred choice of the two but I only gave that six more points than 'Dancing On My Own' (+40 vs. +34) so still satisfied with that winner.

Thank you Rollo for a terrific job organising this and presenting the results as always!

2. 329 Back To Black

3. 301 Enola Gay

4. 287 In The End

5. 254 Rent

6. 252 Family Affair

7. 248 Padam Padam

8. 246 Smooth Criminal

9. 244 Live Forever

9. 244 Sk8er Boi

16. 187 Time Is Running Out

17. 185 Karma Police

18. 182 Sultans Of Swing

19. 175 Cruel Summer

20. 173 This Charming Man

The biggest gainers from this format are Rent (up from 14th to 5th), Padam Padam (23rd to 7th), Yes (33rd to 11th) and Karma Police (34th to 17th).

Going in the opposite direction are Smooth Criminal (3rd to 8th), Ain't Nobody (8th to 13th), Yesterday (7th to 14th) and Wake Me Up When September Ends (6th to 15th).

Great top 2, can't argue with that result.

Thanks for doing this Rollo!
