Kosheen were under-rated and Sian is a great singer, criminal she's faded from view even as a guest vocalist. This is a big dubstep-ish dance track and I'm ashamed to admit I'd forgotten it and how good is it, her second-best track after Kosheen's Harder, and DJ Fresh's top tune too. Someone should do a mash-up and call it Louder, Harder, tho' the big tempo and mood difference would be a challenge!

I really like Louder, great dubstep influence at the top of the charts and great vocals.

'What Makes You Beautiful' was a great debut for 1D. I like several others of theirs but wouldn't class myself as a major fan though.

I would have had 'Louder' by DJ Fresh in my top 5. I love this song.

Such a summer anthem and I played it loads during 2011.

Louder is a great throwback to the dubstep sound that was in vogue for a while in that year, I did prefer DJ Fresh's other follow-ups to this one, but it was a decent number one. I'm pleasantly surprised the other dubstep number 1 hasn't come yet as that's one of my favourites x

Don't have as much fondness for Stay Awake as I do his other number 1, and was one of many flash in the pan number 1s at the time getting there on front-loaded name power alone, but it is fairly unique at the top in terms of style, 'stick around like Elastoplast' is a lyric for the ages as well x

I have a lot of nostalgic fondness of What Makes You Beautiful, it was played in a lot of clubs at uni and almost everyone was singing along with it, I think they did really good to produce a really likeable, anthemic song as their debut, I think that's honestly the only one I really rate from them outside Night Changes, though of course, some great records came from them solo x

Promises is up next and follows on from Louder before it, being songs that both have dubstep influences. Released as the fourth single from British dubstep group Nero’s debut album Welcome Reality it would have the lowest first week sales for a #1 when it sold 46,700 copies. This is another one of the songs I have no memory of hearing before starting this rank but started to get into the more I listened to it, for me it wouldn’t have sounded out of place on Katy B’s album from around the same time. Elsewhere in the charts that week Titanium by David Guetta and Sia debuted at #16, though it would be another five months before that song would really catch on.

Great track. All of Nero's first 3 hits made my EOY that year. Another case of an act not having sustainable longevity after though.

It's alright, I never really paid it that much attention. 'You & Me' was way better.

I think Promises and Louder would both be around the edge of the top 5 for me, great number one singles - do think that Nero had better, but was great to see them make #1. What Makes You Beautiful definitely a great song for a boyband.

I really like Promises, I’d definitely have it a bit higher in the rankings. A treat to see dubstep getting some exposure.

For me the positions of both "Louder" and "Promises" are allright - quite nice at the club, but nothing i would regularly play at home. I was much into dubstep around 2009-2012 at that time, but more into the deeper stuff from labels such as DMZ and Deep Medi Musik.

I was expecting 'What Makes You Beautiful' to be the last of the one-week 'Moves Like Jagger' blockers left standing, but there's another which continues to survive! Not complaining though, I find One Direction's debut a bit paint by numbers as John said - and isn't there some infinite loop logic with "you don't know you're beautiful / that's what makes you beautiful" Not as baffling as following it up with 'Gotta Be You' though. However as a group they did come across as the real deal and would have songs down the line which I'd rate higher.

The next two songs I like and would probably have a bit higher. Dubstep was an odd short-lived subgenre but provided two of my favourite songs of the time in Katy B's 'Katy On A Mission' and Chase & Status' 'Blind Faith', while Nero's 'Guilt' has aged very well too - these two aren't quite alongside them for me ('Louder' goes hard but the vocals are the highlight, 'Promises' has its moments although I find it very stop-start), nevertheless it was great to hear them at the top of the chart.

“Louder” is a real burst of energy . “Promises” is great and still sounds fresh, and “Guilt” by them is even better. Glad that they have both done quite well with you.

And like magic, the other dubstep song I was referring to shows up! Definitely a contender of one of the most forgettable number 1s in terms of how it's held up, chart run and completely taking advantage of a summer lull, however I love it and it would be right near the top for me. Their earlier singles, Guilt and Me & You were a lot better, but this had many of those same elements with the banging production and great urgent vocals, as well as a wonderful breakdown at the finish. It's genre might have dated, but it still sounds fantastic.

I liked Promises and Louder at the time, the end of Louder is great.

As for Promises, the production of the verses has quite a bit of 80s synthpop and trance influence as well as the dubstep drop.

The melodic dubstep and synthpop combo likewise with Sub Focus ft Alpines - Tidal Wave which was very good too.
