I genuinely don’t see the point in this. We had a conversation on here not so long ago that there would be no point now to go back to playing the whole Top 40 because it’s so slow moving nowadays. But that’s exactly what they seem to be doing… for a chart update?! I don’t think the broadcast chart update has ever been more than the top 20 before!

  • The world would be a better place if the Buzzjack Multichart was the real chart though tbf x

  • They may as well just push the Friday chart reveal to Sunday at this point! Would be good to get the correct Thursday streams if they moved it.

  • Maybe they want to show more new releases that are front loaded early in the week and sometimes drop out. I'd say that they may want to promote new music further down the chart but I don't think the c

The midweek chart update I remember from the early to mid 2010s on a Wednesday involved the whole top 40 but just the new entries and notable climbers, which also worked! Playing a whole top 40 as this surely will be is a curious move, but I suppose it does give some airtime to songs that may not make the final chart.

Ah I thought the old Wednesday chart update shows were top 20 only so must have misremembered that one.

I don’t know about everybody else, but I am quite excited by this! They haven’t announced any details, so they might have some really interesting plans up their sleeves!

Maybe they will play the best of the new releases - look at some ‘breakers’ from Friday’s top 100 etc.

Sounds like they are expanding it to cover new entries to the top 100. Do radio stations in America cover their Hot 100 chart?

Don't see why it's longer than the actual chart but I think it's here as a competitor to the Big Top 40 and Lauren is hosting as she was on Capital before Radio 1.

When I first saw this I thought they were moving the chart show to a Sunday, Can't see the point to be honest there be a lot sales data missing from it, well we shall see, the Top 20 or a Top 40 whatever it becomes doesn't need a lot of air time, surely.

If they were to do it, this could be some good airplay for songs the new releases that currently stand no chance of making the midweek Top 40 on Monday!

I actually think this could be a brilliant idea if done correctly. We'll await the details!

Even doing the full Top 40 first look would be good, because we'd at least get some fresh songs that probably will never make the main chart.

Part of me wonders whether the real plan is to play the Official Chart top 40 on Sunday. Delaying the chart would mean that all of Thursday's streams are included. Back in the 1970s and beyond, the chart was announced on Tuesday with the Radio 1 Chart Show on Sunday. Might they announce the full chart on Saturday with the Chart Show on Sunday?

There would be a lack of interest to tuning into the show though if the chart has already been revealed

As mentioned by others some people believe the Big Top 40 on Capital is official, likely because it's still on Sunday! If Radio 1 aired the final chart on Sunday and make it very clear that it's the official one I can see there being a big audience for it. I can't imagine the number of people listening to the chart specifically for the reveal is very high now anyway.

Maybe, but I'm not sure many people would know that the chart had already been published. A full rundown of the chart om Sunday would be outside the hours where the playlist is key, so there would be more scope to play the whole chart.

I take your point, but also some real and good new music thrown into the mix!

If I had my way, AI slop would be excluded all together lol

nah thats the shit top 40’s job.

Thinking of all of these comments, Sunday was a perfect time to listen to the chart - both as an adult and a child as I often had nothing else to do at that time. Friday afternoon is a challenge.
