July 28Jul 28 Keeping everything crossed for Mandy, Indiana to make the shortlist 🙏Gorillaz, KNEECAP, Lily Allen and Mary in the Junkyard have sprung to mind for some predictions
July 28Jul 28 Author There doesn't seem to be an obvious contender this year, which keeps things interesting.Gorillaz would be my choice currently, and I think they have a decent shot at winning it - although they refused a nomination in 2001!
July 28Jul 28 I’ll say it yet again, the wonderful Dove Ellis’ Blizzard album will win! Mary In The Junkyard is a great shout too Jade! Also Boards Of Canada, My New Band Believe and maybe Loathe (if it’s in the qualifying period)

It released on the cut off day.
July 29Jul 29 Also I expect Olivia Dean and Raye will be in with a chance from the commercially successful releases too
July 30Jul 30 Mandy, Indiana's album rly should be nominated for this though, otherwise like what are we doing....same for Blawan's awesome record "SickElixir" from last year. If the Mercury really wanna grow a set and get the walls of the Utilita Arena rattling they'd put both those on the list xFeel like The Twilight Sad are very much due a nomination for their latest one, or for more of a longshot- Joshua Burnside's heartbreaking "It's Not Going to be Okay", or MEMORIALS' psychedelic Stereolab-esque vibes on "All Clouds Bring Not Rain"
July 30Jul 30 Author DaveDove EllisFlorence + The MachineJADEKnatsKojey RadicalNia ArchivesOlivia DeanPaul McCartneyRAYESuedeWar Child RecordsCertainly some big snubs there!
July 30Jul 30 Author The main snubs I see people talking about are Lily Allen, Boards of Canada Gorillaz, James Blake, mary in the junkyard & Mandy, Indiana.
July 30Jul 30 Mandy, Indiana robbed xNeed to catch up on some of these but Dave's album is my favourite of those I've heard in full
July 30Jul 30 Mandy, Indiana and Lily Allen not representing the pop side, choices(Nia Archives to win x)
July 30Jul 30 Author Hard one to call! I don't think any of the mainstream choices are strong enough to win tbh. I think they've all released better albums.Dove Ellis would probably be my choice.Help(2) is a bit of a weird one. There's lots of good songs on it, but feels weird to consider it alongside "proper" studio albums. I wonder who will perform a song from it at the awards?
July 30Jul 30 Of course I’m happy Dove Ellis is there because it is the best British/Irish album of the last 12 months.I thought it obvious Olivia and RAYE would get a nomination, it seems the list is more driven by commercial success each year, becoming more like the Brit Awards it was meant to be an alternative to?! Where’s all the ‘new’ artists? What could probably be considered legacy acts also filling up the list. Look I love Suede, Paul McCartney and Florence and the Machine but I can’t say any have released their best albums in the last year, and it’s hardly pushing musical boundaries in having them here.Agreed Help (2) is a really odd choice, if it wins exactly which artist are they saying has made the best album of the year? I think there’s a precedent though, wasn’t the first Help album also nominated back in the day? Edited July 30Jul 30 by Jaz13music
July 30Jul 30 Huuuge for JADE! So, so proud of her.Won’t happen in a million years but seeing her win would be a huge moment. Happy for her no matter what as I never expected even a nomination!
July 30Jul 30 It’s worth remembering that artists and record labels ah e to submit entries. The most notable omissions, Gorillaz and Lily Allen, may have chosen not to enter.
July 30Jul 30 Oh Mercury, you'll never know peace from me again after the Mandy Indiana snub....JADE or Nia Archives would probably be the best option out of those, but damn that's gotta be their least inspired list to datealso what is that War Child compilation doing on there 😭 what happens if they pick that as the winner, do they break the trophy into like 30 small chunks and all the contributing artists receive their own crumb in the post?
