I think you just answered your own question - easy-to-listen-to music like Babydoll (or Ordinary or Beautiful Things or Lose Control or etc.) is often dominant once it reaches a certain extent of market share with the general public precisely because it is found to be inoffensive and fine-enough background/idle listening music

Yep! When everything is so splintered, the songs with mass appeal are always going to rise to the top.

Come on Jamie! About where I thought for Fontaines sales-wise, biggest debut for a group this year I believe?

I guess it's down to how many physicals Olivia / Chappel has sold then as they haven't dispatched yet.

If they have not yet dispatched, I imagine they will make it. I assumed as they were number 1 in the First Look, the physicals had already dispatched.

LMAO freefall for Taylor Swift without her physical sales.

Well my vinyl hasn't shipped yet so I assume they haven't? Remember day 1 numbers were well over 500k combined on Spotify so perhaps that's why it was ahead and the big Youtube numbers gave it an initial boost on the first update?

The intern must be having a sabbatical…

btw, Music Week script says at the bottom of their report Sunday’s streaming data is yet to be taken into account. Bear that in mind.

I expect 'expectations' might just get the No.1 when all the data is compiled. The top 3 singles are very close.

yep! it clears BTS' ARIRANG (41,551) (and The Rolling Stones' Foreign Tongues (38,016) if you want to specify bands rather than just groups)

This is no different to usual, there's always a day of streaming (Spotify/Apple/YouTube usually) missing. On Sunday, Babydoll was ahead of expectations (combined) on Spotify, and it's #1 on Apple too.

I wasn't aware of that, as I don't visit Spotify and Apple sites, would be nice to see Chappell to get another #1 though, but when I think about it more, its just been added as a collaboration. I prefer Babydoll over it, actually the track has grown on me it took me a few more listens to get me interested, its quite an earworm when the track gets going.

With all the exciting new stuff out this week, surely we can't have Babydoll making its way to #1 😭

Olivia physicals please (even if I find the Chappell Roan remake a bit unnecessary and prefer the original)

Fontaines sales already beyond what I was hoping for the full week!

No that’s a different artist

lol being real though, whenever I've heard her name said on the radio "the band?" has been my immediate thought. Seeing it written down sounds like it should sound like "Ashy" to me.

Because it's a fun tune. you can sing along, you can dance to it, its unoffensive, its an earworm. It's not Taylor Swift x

praying that Olivia gets it this week cos we all know J Mills is just gonna take it the following week anyways.
