December 14, 201015 yr I think thats the problem though - I honestly assumed it would be rivaling a top 3 album place what with their own TV show on Saturday night, whenever anyone else has had their own ITV1 show - sales fly - look at Take That, Cheryl Cole, Girls Aloud and Michael Buble. I just find it odd, that one of the biggest boybands in the country hasn't benefitted much from their own show. I didn't expect it to drop. Unless it has benefitted and they were looking to drop out of the top 10 this week had the TV show not been on. Love You More has dropped alot too considering. On another note - does anyone know the longest stay at #1 for an album is? With Take That looking certain for a 5th week, I can see them staying for the rest of the year, maybe getting up to 7 weeks? Looking at the 2000s best sellers 2000 - The Beatles - 1 (9 weeks) 2001 - Dido - No Angel (6 weeks) 2002 - Robbie Williams - Escapology (6 weeks) 2003 - Dido - Life For Rent (8 n/c weeks) 2004 - Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters (2 weeks) 2005 - James Blunt - Back to Bedlam (10 n/c weeks) [including 8 consecutive weeks) 2006 - Snow Patrol - Eyes Open (3 n/c weeks) 2007 - Amy Winehouse - Back to Black (3 n/c weeks) 2008 - Duffy - Rockferry (5 n/c weeks) 2009 - Susan Boyle - I Dreamed a Dream (4 weeks) Take That & Leona Lewis spent 8 weeks, Lady GaGa 7 weeks. Take That 2010 I think will only have 6-7 weeks before the next big album comes out. Edited December 14, 201015 yr by *xmasG*
December 14, 201015 yr It kills me to think that some awful 60s song that got used on Family Guy once actually has a chance of selling more than the Queen of Pop that is Rihanna. Anyway I'd like to see Rihanna at number one in the new year, I think Matt will hold his position for at least 2-3 weeks. The term 'Queen of Pop' is extremely overused, it's devaluing the meaning of the title by applying it to every single not-terrible female singer  Rihanna has only been around for about 6 years, you can't become the 'Queen of Pop' in 6 years... The 'Queen of Pop' is Madonna. Edited December 14, 201015 yr by ★ Xmas Bray ★
December 14, 201015 yr This is the first year EVER that I actually want the X-Factor winner as Christmas no.1.
December 14, 201015 yr Why is Cee Lo randomly back in the top 20 by the way? Also, hopefully Biffy can get a few places higher by Sunday, but brilliant that it's set to become their long overdue third top ten hit :D
December 14, 201015 yr Good sales for Matt, but can anybody say if the physical was released yesterday rather than a usual X Factor winner Wednesday release? I'm just wondering because on the HMV website it says the physical was released yesterday...

I'm just wondering because on the HMV website it says the physical was released yesterday... Someone mentioned earlier that they saw it in an HMV today, so it's possible it was shipped to stores late yesterday and put straight onto the shelves, perhaps?
December 14, 201015 yr This one. The Christmas #1 is whatever #1 is on Christmas day. In 2011 however the chart WILL be on Christmas Day :o might make me sound really old but i remember the last time this happened - about 6-10 years ago - remember listening to the no1 while my ma was shouting at me to come and eat my xmas dinner!!
December 14, 201015 yr Wow the Black Eyed Pea's chart run is going to be EPIC: 11-7-11-6-1-5-
December 14, 201015 yr Wow, Go Matt  TT could be no. 1 for a few more weeks tbh, hardly anything is out in the next 3 or 4 weeks :o Or maybe Rihanna will climb in the next week or two?
December 14, 201015 yr The Matt physical made it to most HMVs at lunchtime today! Obviously Simon Cowell getting it out as quickly as possible to avoid last years result
December 14, 201015 yr The Matt physical made it to most HMVs at lunchtime today! Obviously Simon Cowell getting it out as quickly as possible to avoid last years result  And to get more sales, it seems like it will get a lot of physicals as it has his best performances on there (JTWYA, TFTEISYF, NIWS). C'mon Matt I'd like to see you beat Alexandra in sales and eventually sell a million, you're the best X Factor Winner!!!! The real question is Will I be saying this a few months later??, will he be the next Leona?
December 14, 201015 yr Glad for Matt :D looks like he'll best Joes sales and could well get closer to Alexandra's opening week sales good for Biffy too- and great to see Pogues ahead of Mariah :cheer: good to see BEPs and Willow dropping like stones too
December 14, 201015 yr Looks like too many campaigns are saturating the X-Factor protest vote - Trashmen, Biffy original and CATM will probably all sell well but there'll be no taking down the X Factor winner now. It's got me thinking though, what was different about the Christmas number one when the Spice Girls dominated every year with really poor songs (although 2 Become 1 was ok)? It's all big labels capitalising on a week where sales go through the roof and X-Factor is now the face of corporate music. I just wish they'd make him sing a Christmas song instead of wheezing his way through an average Biffy track. At least when Spice Girls were getting No.1's you could actually buy other singles. Go into a supermarket nowadays and the X Factor single is the ONLY one on sale! Even at HMV the selection of alternatives is poor - this week there were SIX other physical releases, three of which were only available on vinyl, one which has already been released last year, and the remaining two which don't have the mass-market appeal that is required to compete. Last year was truly a one-off and X Factor isn't going to be beaten again just by people downloading another song, so the only way of a non-XF Xmas No.1 in future is if someone releases a brand new Christmas song, makes it available as a CD single to supplement download sales, and their record company bothers to promote it.
December 14, 201015 yr Matt Cardle - When We Collide - 49p on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/When-We-Collide/dp...rd_i=1000228483
December 14, 201015 yr Spice Girls may have "dominated" the Christmas number one spot for three years, but for all but 1996 it was a battle. Too Much only beat the Teletubbies by 50,000 copies (252k vs 202k) in 1997 while Chef was even closer in 1998, only losing out by 8k (380k vs 372k). Compare that to the X Factor winner where only once was it ever remotely challenged out of six years now (and that was the year it was beaten). That's what people loved about the Christmas number one spot, the battles and pure ridiculousness of it. It was pretty much the only time of the year when Mr Blobby or Bob the Builder could release a single and compete against (and beat!) the biggest pop acts of that time. Nowadays it's just boring. X Factor has the #1 on lockdown, and the rest of the top 10 is about 50% to do with the show in some way these days. None of the current crop of pop acts ever really compete in the same way they used to, probably because they know they can't :( I really loved 1999's Xmas battle - I mean, the outcome was naff and the top two were both terrible records, but so many of the big acts of the time got involved - Westlife, Steps, S Club 7, Vengaboys... plus you had the novelty from Cuban Boys and Mr Hanky The Christmas Poo! You're right though, it's just record labels capitalising on big sales... but at least it used to be fun while doing it!
December 14, 201015 yr The last genuine race before last year was 2003 which saw something very different (Gary Jules' Mad World) up against something gloriously daft but right for the time (The Darkness). It'll happen again one day but it might be a long wait :(

It'll happen again one day but it might be a long wait :( Ironically that was the first time Simon Cowell tried for the #1 - the Pop Idol 2 Finalists recorded Happy X-Mas (War Is Over) but it got to #5
