Just out of interest ;) why are people so surprised about Joe's album? He's a quality vocalist with a record label now that believes in him and promotes him properly.

Because of how badly his debut album did.

Most artists these days tend to follow the same "peak top ten, plummet for a few weeks, stabilise" formula. :( It's a suprise these days if an album actually spends more than two weeks in the top ten.

Maroon 5 might have a chance of no1 next week if their sales hold up well and Dappy falls off considerably like the last few weeks chart toppers have done. Cant see any other major competition next week.

Sak Noel. (Why are people STILL forgetting about him?)

Because although it is an obvious no.1 it's crap and people are willfully forgetting about it.

Because it's been held back far too long? I think it'll do a TiK ToK/Like A G6 and peak in the top five but won't be as big as everyone expects it to be.

There's a couple of songs that I (and a lot of other people) thought were sure-fire #1s which didn't get there last year, such as Billionaire, and We No Speak Americano. So it could miss out. We'll probably know whether it'll be #1 by Sunday though.

Do you not remember last year at all ?

 It did get to #1, and was huge, but it debuted at #5 and climbed there. I thought it would debut at #1, given the months of hype, about 20 fake versions charting, etc.

The Saturdays set to drop an incredible 10 places now - from #5 to #15. After the (03-05) chart run so far, I was expecting it to hang around the #6-15 region for quite some time.

Ed Sheeran up to #6 is good news - re-entering the T10 will put it's total at 12 weeks, matching Pitbull and LMFAO. Then, all it has to do is hang around for another week to become the song of 2011 which spent longest within the T10.

Joe McElderry at #5 in the albums chart, again. Wow. Wonder if he'll perform on X-Factor given the success.

Snow Patrol and Emeli Sande should do a U turn tonight if the Jools Holland effect takes off.

Snow Patrol seem to have benefitted from Tuesday's show but Emeli Sandé didn't.

With Ed Sheeran, James Morrison and Damien Rice all top ten it seems that perhaps the male singer/songwriter era is returning?

Because he has the stigma of X Factor. It means some people will dismiss him and not bother listening. I didn't.

please God no.

It has nothing to do with the quality of the music itself. It's just fair to assume that someone whose debut album did as poorly as Joe's did would have even less success with their second album, regardless of what it sounds like. Especially since he had the XF hype for 'Wide Awake' and I think this is the first time an XF act's second album has ever outperformed their first.

Even Joe stans should surely be able to see why people would have low sales expectations for 'Classic'.

Hi new to this forum, some interesting comments re Joe and thanks for all the info guys much appreciated. To be honest even his fans are slightly surprised he has turned things around so quickly, however I felt it was just a matter of the right promotion and getting him seen. The whole point was he didnt get all the XF hype that all went to Olly Murs. Joe was given barely any airplay or promotion. It was obvious to me Simon Cowell never wanted him to win as he wasnt the fly by night pop artist he wanted to promote & proved it by barely bothering. Good luck to Joe. Simon's looking pretty stupid now. Hope he stays top 5 this week.

Don't forget Will Young :P

Don't forget Will Young :P

Jealousy isn't exactly a 'singer-songwriter' sort of song though, at least not in the same sense as Damien, Ed and James.

Olly Murs is a singer-songwriter too. :P

What actually IS the definition of "singer-songwriter" anyway? I assume it's someone who both sings the vocals on the song, and writes their own lyrics, but then that could extend to the likes of Will Young (as mentioned), Jason Derulo, Maroon 5, Bruno Mars and even Dappy!

I assumed the instrumentals have to be acoustic or something?

Of course Jealousy is a singer/songwriter song. Will wrote it and sings it!

Maybe the over saturation by the females is coming to an end, which in my view would be refreshing!
