Originally the solo project of singer/songwriter Dan Smith, Bastille expanded to a quartet after he decided to form a band and got some of his friends involved. The band attracted a lot of attention after putting a few tracks online, leading to support slots at major U.K. festivals like Glastonbury and the Isle of Wight. While their lush, heavily '80s-inspired melodies, anthemic choruses, and literate, emotionally raw lyrics, delivered in Smith’s swooping voice, undoubtedly appealed to kids weaned on the sounds of La Roux and Florence + the Machine, at least part of the hype was due to the flagrantly copyright-breaching videos that Smith, an ardent film buff, edited together out of footage from old movies like Terrence Malick’s Badlands. Eventually they secured a deal with hip indie label Young and Lost Club and released their debut 7” single, Flaws/Icarus, in July 2011. This was followed later that year by Laura Palmer EP, named for the teenaged murder victim in David Lynch’s cult '90s TV series Twin Peaks; the creepy accompanying video for the track “Overjoyed” was also heavily inspired by the series. The group returned in 2013 with their debut album Bad Blood. ~ John D. La La La 02. La La La (Kaos Remix) 03. La La La (Pále Remix) 04. La La La (DEVolution Remix) 05. La La La (My Nu Leng Remix) Biography Producer Shahid Khan, aka Naughty Boy, pursued music seriously after he dropped out of university and worked a number of unsatisfying jobs. He debuted in 2006 with the single "Phat Beach (I'll Be Ready)," but his first major work was his songwriting and production for Chipmunk's "Diamond Rings," a playful ska-rooted single that featured a pre-fame Emeli Sandé and reached the Top Ten in his native U.K. in 2009. The next year was bigger, highlighted by productions for Professor Green, Tinie Tempah, and Wiley (the Top Ten "Never Be Your Woman"), all of which involved Sandé. Khan then worked extensively on Sandé's breakthrough 2012 album Our Version of Events. That October, he released the solo single "Wonder," with Sandé returning the favor as the song's lead vocalist and co-songwriter. "La La La," featuring Sam Smith, was released in May 2013 and topped the U.K. chart, which set the stage for Hotel Cabana, Khan's debut album for Virgin. - iTunes Chart history (Year peak title): Naughty Boy 2010 08 Never Be Your Woman (Naughty Boy Presents Wiley feat. September 22, 201313 yr How so? Virtually everything with the Minaj name on it from 2012 got comfortably in to the top 40 No, I mean. Chris only released songs like Turn Up the Music, Don't Wake Me Up, etc. and Nicki too. Now they gone back to their original music (I think maybe because of the success that Macklemore, Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke have had).
September 22, 201313 yr 'La La La' still top 30 while 'Lifted' has dropped well out of the top 40 :D Actually surprised at how many weeks 'Lifted' managed to stay ahead, it was inevitable it'd drop back behind very quickly.
