I would rather Eminem got the #1.

Miley's song is alright but like We Can't Stop, I can't help but think it's so popular purely because of the video and the controversy surrounding Miley rather than the song itself being particularly interesting.

Really?

For me it's a hundred percent the song rather than the video which I've only seen 2 times and it's awful.

I agree with him. If Wrecking Ball was released by Miley a few years ago it would've probably peaked at #11 rather than #1. It's a nice song though.

I disagree. I think 'We Can't Stop' got to number 1 because of the song.

I think Wrecking Ball's popularity has been helped more by the video and controversy though

Ignoring the person behind it, I do quite like Wrecking Ball. It's probably my favorite song from her actually (not that that's remotely difficult). I'll take it at number 1 over the other two - I like Eminem, but he can't really make 'comedy' songs like he used too and I was convinced Conor Maynard's song was Justin Timberlake at first, I thought it was a bit strange he'd come up with something like that these days.

To be honest, I don't think any #1 gets there because of the song. The song itself plays a part, but it's because of the promotion (i.e. radio airplay, music video, live performances, etc.). If an unknown artist released We Can't Stop or Wrecking Ball they wouldn't even be in the charts. And looking at it the other way around, I think something like Party in the USA would maybe go to #1 now that Miley gets more radio support and more media attention.

Obviously the hype surrounding Miley has helped her get to number 1. But isn't that the case for about 60% of every song that has ever got to number 1? If an artist has a strong enough fan-base, then of course they will get to number 1 regardless of the quality of music. Westlife didn't get fourteen Number 1s because they were releasing phenomenal songs. They got to Number 1 because they had teenage girls obsessing over them.

That said, We Can't Stop and Wrecking Ball are bloody songs, and if anything the fact that she has good music alongside the controversy makes her all the more interesting. And, nowadays, there is an expectation for the BIG popstars to release high quality music anyway. One Direction are all the more respected because they have some good, credible and sometimes iconic singles.

Yes. I'd say more like 99% of songs that get #1. Nobody can say We Can't Stop or Wrecking Ball (or any other #1) got #1 solely because of the songs. There's unknown artists releasing songs like those and they don't even get top 1500 on iTunes.

Everything reducing except Miley.

With "Bangerz" out tomorrow, no doubt that the album version of WB will probably be top 40, so Miley could easily do 100k this week.

Yeah, Miley's obviously starting to gain a lead on iTunes which is perfectly understandable as to why everyone is decreasing. One Republic seem to be decreasing worryingly fast though.

It's got question marks at the top which means it's incorrect

How do you think Eminem got famous in the first place?

Weird - no top 10's ever, then probably two #1's in a row - has that ever happened before (say for someone who's had more than 5 previous hits)?

Roll Deep come close I guess, two non top 10's then suddenly two #1's :P

Anybody else pleased that James Blunt is doing so well? Proof that you don't have to be part of the R1 demographic to have a hit single in the download era.
What a load of rubbish! What's so fascinating about a skinny half naked girl swinging about on a wrecking ball? it's yet another disapointing outcome in a long list to do with the UK charts. :( :puke2:
