That rule is unfair... You don't get a song from free. You're charged NOW for that song you get automatically and then you're charged for the rest of the album when it's released...

It's a paid download that should be counted.

It is basically a complete my album then. The US do the correct thing by subtracting the single sales when the album is eventually released.

James Blunt appears to be heading for decent opening week sales, this era really is seeing a revival in his career which was unexpectedly myself the least.

The rule is to stop an artist releasing a single a week off an album with big-ish pre-orders and thus gaining 'hit' after hit that drop the week after and sales end up not even counting towards the songs when the album drops.

Well it hasn't stopped Justin Bieber releasing a single every week  obviously there is no album.

So are Eminem's 3 singles all seperate from the album preorder?

There isn't a pre-order for 'The Marshall Mathers LP 2' at all yet :P

Indeed, there isn't an album coming for all these tracks, they're just being released in the run-up to Believe 3D being released in cinemas.

But what about the copies from people who download just the track and have not pre-ordered the album? Why don't count those ones?

Exactly! why aren't these being counted?

I though that this was what was changed for Bowie, so are occ not managing to gain seperate download and pre order data again in this case?

I think what most artists will end up doing eventually, is releasing a couple of singles that are not on albums each week, that's one way around it, taking Justin Bieber as an example, I read somewhere OneD are releasing 4 single tracks (1 each week) before the album is released, not sure if those tracks are on the album though, maybe Joe can shed more light on it.

Yup 1D are doing that, although there's only a few days between them as opposed to one a week I believe. ^_^ Story Of My Life will be available through the album, meaning the other three won't be able to chart if the rule isn't changed, as all the tracks are from the album.

So like Lady Gaga did before with Born This Way. Released 'Edge of Glory' and 'Hair' as seperate singles rather than directly from the album?

The attraction for doing the pre-release thing though is that it guarantees an extra album sale, so I can see why record companies are promoting it. It just plays havoc with the charts!

Well, yeah, it's possible. I guess it'll work out exactly the same as when Taylor Swift, David Guetta, etc. did it in the past.

Great to see so many top 40 new entries this week!! :D

Or maybe they'll (kinda) go down the Ash route. Release new tracks when they're ready (with several actively promoted singles) and then 'compilation' albums every now and then with the best tracks since the last 'compilation'? That's how I'd like to see music released, anyway!

Would be silly if there was an album. Kind of defies the point of "promo single" if people have the all the songs by the time the album is released - it does the complete opposite of promoting the album! :P

So glad Andrea is top 10! She should climb today after her appearance on BBC Breakfast!
I was one of those two million, I bought it when it was first released and I regret it. :(

Thanks, won't bother getting it then. ;)

Lady Gaga’s Do What U Want (featuring R Kelly) will become chart eligible once the related album pre-order promotion ends. Official Chart rules, as agreed in committee with the British music industry, allow one ‘instant grat’ promotion per album, i.e a single track download given away as an album pre-order incentive. Do What U Want is the second track to be delivered to fans who pre-order ARTPOP, the track will become eligible to chart once the current chosen promotional period ends and the full album is released on 11 November.

CASE CLOSED -_-
