Team STEPS all the way! I always feel they were overshadowed by S Club 7 and the Spice Girls when it came to 90's/00's Pop but I'm here for them to bag a surprise hit this year!

Over shadowed by the spice girls probably but S CLUB 7 didn't come around till late 1999 and steps were gone by end of 2000

Hope a third Series of "Steps The Big Reunion" has been commissioned by ITV.

May be that was considered a step too far (like that pun).

The other series' were hilarious as they all held such bitter resentments towards each other

By the end of 2001, surely? They had a success with their cover of 'Chain Reaction' in 2001 and I'd say S Club 7 definitely overshadowed them in the 2000-1 period.

Didn't Steps sell more albums as well? They have 3 million selling albums (well, including Gold).

^^ I always thought Steps held their own back in the day - 14 consecutive Top 10 singles, 4 Top 5 albums, huge arena tours, endorsements etc., their 2011 comeback was huge they just didn't have any new music to back it up and I think the success of it caught them off guard and we'll just quietly forget about the Christmas album disaster.

Seems like they are self releasing again - sure there are some record companies kicking themselves today!

Lmao at Steps being #1 on iTunes in 2017 *_*

S Club 7 were I guess seen as the bigger band, I guess mainly as they had fewer singles but the singles they did release there was a period when it went #1 #1 #1 #2 whereas Steps had many more singles, but two hit #1 and there was a gap of nearly 2 years between those. I think S Club may have been bigger internationally too, but not sure.

Album wise, I don't think any of S Club albums came close to the numbers Steps made, in 1999 Steps sold more albums (Step One and Steptacular) then any other British band and they were a tour-de-force when it came to touring. So although at first glance S Club 7 seemed the bigger band, the reality is they weren't really.

Anyway, I'm over the moon Steps are #1 on ITunes. If my dreams came true, and they were #1 officially, I'm pretty sure they would be the first boy/girl ever to have #1 singles in 3 consecutive decades.

Fantastic to see steps at number 1 hopefully it can hold iTunes number 1 doesn't mean as much as it used to but hopefully they sell enough to do well

Also little mix hurry and promote / drop video almost out top 40 already

OMG! Most unexpected iTunes #1 in a while! Go Steps! I love that neither of the top two conform to current trends whatsoever, it gives me hope that we can finally get over tropical house/future bass soon.

Yes, it wasn't the best advert for them as people was it? Great TV though.

#39 Cloudbusting - Just Us. I am quite sure this will make top 40 officially now in a few weeks with R1 playlisting, if so it would be quite an unusual hit, as it sounds more 2005 in its 'dance version of an 80s song' and violin based style than 2017!
I don't agree that S Club 7 were bigger. Perhaps by 2001 with Don't Stop Movin' they overtook Steps, but looking at both careers as a whole, nah.
 well this is unexpected. Fair play tho. '5,6,7,8' and their version of 'Tragedy' are kind of guilty pleasures, should check out this new song I guess ;o

'5,6,7,8' is a great Eurodance tune, following the trend in the late 90s for cheesy Eurodance, see also Eiffel 65, Aqua and The Vengaboys.

This needs to happen. :yahoo:

Have they got any more promo after Ant & Dec's SNT?

They have already done 'This Morning' they have ITV/Lorraine on Monday.

S Club sold 10 million records

Steps sold 20 million records

They were literally twice as big

This needs to happen. :yahoo:

Not only that, I'm pretty sure the only bands to have #1 singles in 3 consecutive decades are Take That (though the 3rd decade doesn't have all members) and The Bee Gees. If anyone knows of any other band let me know!
