I remember putting serious thought into mine (while waiting for my mum in a supermarket car park lol) as I wanted it to have some form of personal meaning while also sounding like it'd fit nicely on a real world map.

'Des' came from 'desu' - Japanese for 'to be' - which had become my nickname during a uni semester in Tokyo after I kept introducing myself incorrectly. B-)

'bua' is the Irish word for victory... Can't fault my ambition. B-) B-)

And 'nda' was just a mix of trying to work my actual name (Andy) into it and also giving the entire thing a realistic/African feel. B-) B-) B-)

Pronunciations are important too, there's a few countries I'd struggle to pronounce without someone telling me.

In the case of Iz~ am I right to assume the country is pronounced "Say-Uh-Tay-Nah" ?

Yes. That was the other reason I put the accent on the e, to hint people into the correct way of saying it.

Since it's a song contest I wanted my country name to be something musical, plus I LOVE the word 'harmonica', it's one of my favorite words. I wish it was a suitable name for a human, which it's not, but it rhymes with Veronica so I used that for the capital city :magic:
Well I never picked mine as I was struggling to think of something, actually that's slightly incorrect... I was thinking of using my surname Summer anyway but since I happened to be talking to James (JSG) he came up with the icia add on. It's clearly meant to be a upbeat cool vibes sounding name basically albeit no other real meaning to it!

I thought mine sounded pretty, almost changed it to Democratic Nation of Quintessa upon my return as a reflection of my poor standing in the contest but I couldn't be arsed.
I was thinking of a country name at work and thought that I'll simply use the name of our group 'DW' (the population of the 'country' /6/ was valid at the time). So yeah, nothing creative here. Btw 'DW' stands for 'Digital Workflow', not Dr Who  Although I quit DW more than a year ago, I really loved the team and found some great friends there, so I think I'll keep the name in the long run, as it reminds me of a pleasant phase of my life.
Cadelicia is named after an "actor" on a NSFW site.

I always assumed Frank was a massive "Arthur" fan. :kink:

Addy yours is one of my favourite country names! But I always have to check the spelling every time I type it!

Awee Andrew thanks

And yes I saw a lot of people typing Botannika instead of Botanikka ;)

I was randomly contemplating country names and realised that if I chose 'Niceland' I could make a very easy pun with the flag...

(one of my 'interesting' potential name choices was Devland, in honour of King Dev *.* & I was honestly planning on revealing my votes in the wrong order in my first contest :P )

Mine is very creative and original and took a lot of brainstorming.

I searched for "fantasy name generator" and this popped up
I just thought the idea of having a mountain realm was appealing and so I called it Buzzjack Mountain! :D
Fljótavík means a cove in Icelandic which is 1. pretty cool and 2. matches my country shape.
