I certainly will. The last two elections I've taken the dog out at 9.30 and back for the exit poll. On the settee with lots of drinks and snacks and TV on so if I lay down and fall asleep in the early hours it doesn't matter.

We’ve had a thread in the Lounge for the last two elections and plan to do the same this time.

There'll probably be a separate thread for election night, I believe that's how we've done it for the last few General Elections.

 

I fully intend to stay up as late as possible, although I don't think I'll pull an all-nighter, as I'm working the next day. Made it to 3am in 2017, then woke up again around 5am for a few minutes for an update, then worked from home that day.

Oh right. Does it get busy? Do many stay up then? Don't think I've been on here before at an election result time. Probably was on a certain other big forum which usually goes crashes as it's overloaded. :(

Great then. Last time the dog was very confused. Kept going up to bed and coming to the stop of the stairs wondering why I wasn't coming up. :D I was making bacon sandwiches at 6am and went to bed when wife went to work at 9.

The last election, I started watching and then kept going a little bit longer until it got to like nearly 4am and I had to be in work the next day so went for about 3 hours sleep :D

Planning to actually choose to have a devil's nap (that's when you sleep 6-8pm ish and can't get back to sleep at a normal time) and stay up for as long as I feel. That will be very late indeed on the off chance that the result is good.

 

I'm one hour ahead of Britain and then I start work at 08h the next day, but fortunately I'm done by 14h.

I feel like this will happen, then I'll be so annoyed and depressed at the exit poll that I won't sleep so get sucked in and end up staying up for it, but I expect if it does go badly there'll come a point at like 3am where I just give up and don't bother anymore :lol: I'm not working til 11 on the Friday anyway so even if I do stay up for it, I can get a bit of sleep in.

I feel the same. It'll be awful if the exit polls predict a hung parliament or Labour with most seats. The country needs a good working majority for our PM Boris to get Brexit done.

Like others have said, fully depends on the exit poll. The plan in 2017 was to see the early results come in to see how big the Tory majority was going to be, shout at the television with my immediate family and then not be able to face it past 2 or 3 and, well, we all know how that went! (but that's my fallback plan for this time around) This time round I have a job to be awake at 6AM for though so might have to rule that out.

 

Half contemplating getting in my sleep from, say, 10:30-2 when everything's still up in the air and then getting up in time for the coverage when there's a firmer picture of what's happened but what I'll probably end up doing is not being able to sleep and keep refreshing my twitter feed all night until I pass out.

Was going to but I've got work and I'm meant to be going out Friday/Saturday so my sleep may be more important.

To be honest I hope the exit poll at 10 doesn't show a big Tory majority as it'll ruin the excitement really.

 

They say Swinson is very likely now to lose her seat. The SNP are fairly confident of taking it and the feeling on the ground is that they will or else it'll be very close.

I don't think it's a rule that she has to resign as leader (although she did have to be an MP to have been elected one), but I couldn't see how she could lead the party if she's no longer in the Commons. Of course, there's still the possibility she holds on to her seat.
