I definitely think Labour need to vote for the deal to move on. Particularly to regain former labour voters who voted leave. Otherwise they will come under heavy criticism and give the Tories more ammunition against them.

I'll watch some of the debate tomorrow from 9.30am on BBC Parliament. See which MP's have read all the agreement. :o

UK heading for post-Brexit BOOM after signing 62 new trade deals worth £900 billion

BRITAIN is heading for a post-Brexit boom after securing trade deals worth a staggering £900 billion.

By MARTYN BROWN, SENIOR POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT

The colossal figure comes as Trade Secretary Liz Truss signed off a new £18.6 billion tie-up with Turkey, meaning the UK now has new agreements in place with 62 countries around the world. And there are multi-billion free trade deals with America, Canada and Australia in the pipeline for 2021. Together they could boost the UK economy by at least £100 billion over the coming decade, according to analysts.

Writing in the Daily Express, former Business Secretary Andrea Leadsom, says that the UK’s ability to secure it’s own trading agreements, free from EU interference, means that the “sunlit uplands” are on the horizon.

She says Boris Johnson’s “phenominal” £660 billion trade deal with Brussels is the “catalyst for the UK to redefine our place in the world”.

“Let us seize the opportunities that our new position brings,” she says. Let’s use this as the positive push for our post-COVID recovery. The Roaring Twenties can now truly begin!”"

The above, if true, sounds absolutely brilliant.

They aren't new. Most of them are continuations of deals we already had as part of the EU and the "new" deal with the EU, which is wotth ~£660 billion worth of trade, is worse than what we had before.

Labour are spineless and open to attack regardless.

The MP who cannot be dislodged. The human equivalent of a stain on your favourite clothing, Ian Murray (über Union Jack suit wearing unionist) is going full pelt attacking the SNP for voting against it.

Scottish Labour are Voting against it in Holyrood along with the SNP, Greens and LibDems. You couldn’t make it up

Yes, the pantomime continues but 31 December approaches and eventually reality will too. Deal will happen!

Told you.

Now the Labour Party are attempting to neutralise the issue by voting for the bare bones deal. Unfortunately the Labour Party look more split than ever and the Conservatives look remarkably united on Brexit. How times have changed ! Don't worry though, we can all continue to project and absolve all responsibility and just blame Jeremy Corbyn.

Absolutely zero information apart from mentioning 'multi-billion'. Okay, so?? Are you CERTAIN you know there are figures more than 999 billion? Get more details and compare what was before and what is now. That's the literal basics of anything ever. You posting this garbage makes you look like an absolute goddamn idiot.

Jesus f***ing wept and it was his birthday the other day.

If these were indeed better deals, they would definitely go out of their way to mention previous figures. Which they didn't. Guess why, I'll leave you to think for a few seconds... You are indeed correct! Blatantly obvious the deals are not better in any way shape or form to what had been in place before.

Indeed, and nothing for the service sector which makes up about 80% of our economy.

The Brexit deal passed the Commons 521-73. That would suggest that quite a lot of Labourites joined with the Tories to vote for the bill - will be interesting to see the breakdown of the vote.

Now that the Commons has restored the UK to its democratic sovereignty, time for the bill to pass to the unelected House of Lords.

At last it's finally done. Been a long road but we've reached the conclusion. Quite a lively debate.

Lol it isn't over. You got 51% years ago :') We'll be back in soon enough. This is just the beginning. Next up: Scotland and Northern Ireland leave the Union and rejoin the EU :') Wales will follow with Liverpool. This is just the beginning. Enjoy your brexshit xxxxxx

Yes, passes to the Lords and then should pass into law by tomorrow. Thankfully it is over - although I probably won't close the thread quite yet.
Doctor Blind should decide whether we will gloat over Britain's failure to sustain itself in the nearest future in this thread or a new one.

Shouldn’t we have a referendum about this decision?

Shouldn’t we have a referendum about this decision?

Only if it’s advisory.

I believe the views Northern Irish side of the N&P politics mods should be taken into consideration, as any decision regarding the closing of the Brexit thread will be disproportionally felt by those of us from this side of the Irish sea.

We can argue on the semantics of the trade deal but not having a deal on goods would be catastrophic for every single person in the country. Surely Services can be thrashed out later, this was purely about tarrifs on goods coming in and out of the country.

It's not the end of Brexit and yes Brexit is shite but it's happening. Moaning about it isn't going to make the reality any better. The reality is we press forward for 10 years and the smaller parties i.e. the Lib Dems in England will press ahead with re-join the EU. If there is enough support for it, Labour should adopt it too. But now is not the time and to do so just hands power to the Tories for the next 10 years too.
