November 24, 20214 yr 39k album downloads in a week is already more than double anyone else since 2017. Oh yes I meant to comment on that as well but forgot - that is really quite a crazy download figure for how far removed we are from album downloads being relevant.

November 24, 20214 yr Ed didn’t just barely beat Coldplay he sold 39k more which is a lot of sales in this current market. Take Adele, Ed, Coldplay and ABBA out of the equation and selling 39k on its own would be success for any other artist. Indeed he did 139k but Bjork averages that to 130k instead of 140k 🙄

November 24, 20214 yr Coldplay have hardly been immune to the market collapse either - they may have outdone their last album's opening week of 80k in 2019, but 101k is still a long way from the 235k they did in 2015 (to debut at #2 behind Adele's 3rd week) which was much closer in time to the release of Divide.

November 24, 20214 yr Adele could actually finish quite close to ABBA’s 182k physical total then, but with more than twice as many downloads and about ten times the streaming sales. Not sure she’ll quite beat Thank U Next’s streaming total though - just shows how ridiculously dominant you have to be to get high album sales from streaming. 25-30k for ABBA is really good given it will be almost entirely casual purchases now. Ed holding up well now too.
