Posted May 27, 20231 yr After album juggernauts Ed Sheeran & Lewis Capaldi both failed to cross the 100k mark in the albums chart this year, do you think we are likely to get one album cross that mark at some point before the calendar year is over? Will an album prove to be so popular that it actually grows in popularity and crosses it after it's debut week instead? I can't think of who else is on the Ed/Lewis level of album selling that I can see release an album this year.
May 27, 20231 yr Author I'm going to go on a whim and predict "No"! I can't see Adele releasing anything this year and I'm not sure Dua will get a 100k+ debut (will/should be a high debut though ofc) if she does indeed release this year.
May 27, 20231 yr Predicted yes with Taylor Swift in mind. Midnights did 200k+, obviously her next release will be a Taylor's Version again, but Red did even better than Fearless, so there could be more room to grow.

I think 'Speak Now' and '1989' are the ones that will open biggest for her but 100k in a week? I'm not sure! (It would be absolutely WELCOME to happen though!)

If 1989 TV does come this year I could see out of all the rerecodings that one doing it
May 27, 20231 yr I could be completely off the mark but her star is crazy right now with the success of Midnights and the buzz around her Eras tour. It might come down to drops of signed CDs but I'll remain hopeful
May 27, 20231 yr Taylor Swift was my first thought as well... but also because I wouldn't put it past her to drop a new album with 2 days notice before the year is out.

She’s incredibly successful anyway but I’m sure there would be extra curiosity for new material due to the high profile reporting of her break up and new relationship with Matty Healy.
May 27, 20231 yr I think Taylor Swift, Adele and Harry Styles would most likely all do over 100,000 but I doubt any of them are releasing proper albums this year. Olivia Rodrigo is a long shot but her last album did extremely well, I think it's not far off Adele's latest in total units.

All depends on if the second album material is as strong as the first. Whoever does do it next, needs to be a streaming force. There has been a clear absence of acts being able to have an album bomb like Harry and Taylor did last year.
May 27, 20231 yr I'm gonna say yes because I think Taylor may be able to manage it with Speak Now! But i think that if she can't, then nobody else will do so this year.. Olivia i suppose it will all depend on how big the singles are, and also how many variants she sells in the UK, but it's too early to say now imo (a large part of SOUR's album success was due to the huge singles released before it)
May 27, 20231 yr Kylie with ‘Tension’ - she will release a new vinyl variant for every gay that streams Padam, Padam
May 27, 20231 yr I’d love if Speak Now could do 100k, it’s my favourite of hers but it’s always felt like the most overlooked in her discography (besides debut but that’s rightfully so imo!). I’d say it’s not likely but definitely not impossible. Apart from Taylor… Adele could, but 30 definitely lowered our (huge) expectations somewhat so even she might struggle. There could always be a big surprise comeback like ABBA’s but I can’t really think of anyone else who could get that same hype. I just can’t see Dua or Olivia doing it personally, I just don’t think they have the mass appeal to sell insane amounts of physical copies. Even Rihanna I can’t see doing 100k in one week anymore Edited May 27, 20231 yr by No Sleeep

I’d say it’s not likely but definitely not impossible. Here's hoping that it's coming to get its flowers! The online hype seems high, her Speak Now (Taylor's Version) instagram announcement post has over 10 million likes, versus 8 million for the Midnights one, plus TikTok users have taken 'Enchanted' under their wing. Definitely intrigued to see how Olivia's sophomore era is going to play out. I saw earlier that a June 30th date has been teased for new music so hopefully not too much longer to wait if that's true!
