Biography

Switch Disco

Switch Disco could be the world's greatest mash up DJs who have more recently turned to producing original music. Dan from the UK and Nikos from Greece first started working together over a decade ago. Fast forward to now and they are an inseparable duo whom are now producing some of the most exciting sounds coming out of the UK. Signed to Relentless Records, Sony Music UK, their first single 'Everything' dropped in June 2021 and quickly became a massive summer anthem. Now the guys return with their newest release ‘REACT’. With its original vocals from one of the UK’s biggest artists and classic piano sample it’s certainly going to make some huge waves. This summer will also see ‘Switch Disco’ jump back behind the decks performing live as this summers headliners at the famous ‘Ibiza Rocks’. Be sure to follow the odyssey of Switch Disco. - Spotify

Ella Henderson

Bursting on to the scene in 2014, at just 18-years-old Ella Henderson went on to achieve global success with her debut single, ‘Ghost.’ Co-written with Ryan Tedder, the song became the fastest-selling debut single from any British Artist in 2014. That same year, Ella’s debut album, ‘Chapter One,’ (Salaam Remi, Babyface, Steve Mac, TMS) spawned her first Platinum selling album, making her one of only 3 UK artists to break Platinum in 2014. A revered artist, in 2015 Ella received two prestigious BRIT Award nominations for 'Best British Female' and 'Best British Single', rounding off the year with a landmark sell-out UK headline tour, which included two shows at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Following a whirlwind few years, Ella returned to the studio to being work on her next project. During the process she continued to collaborate with some of the biggest names in music, appearing on hits produced by superstar DJ’s Kygo and Sigma. She also returned to the live stage, touring with the likes of Take That, James Arthur and Rudimental, the latter of whom signed her to a new record deal with their label Major Toms/Asylum. For Ella, this marked a brand new start. “I want it to be fresh,” says the 23-year-old. “The industry's changed so drastically since I last released music over four years ago. I want to embrace that. I want to treat everything like it's a clean slate.” - Spotify

Whilst it would have been nice for Kylie to be #7, I'm so glad the spoilers got it wrong this week.

Though those who knew and are listening must have been a little disappointed there.

Oddly the “spoiler” on the Kylie FB group was that she had retained #7 and I was surprised. Makes more sense that Switch Disco overtook.

Great for her to still be naturally climbing anyway.

Really? How did they get that wrong? Many of them seemed convinced she’d be 7.

I think Switch Disco are releasing CD single this week, so this may come back to top 5 next week
I like Don't Say Love... but I don't think it'll stick around if she's already played the CD card.
I don’t think this is necessarily true tbh. The CD’s were a nice boost for this week. We’ll see how her streaming turns out as it’s performing relatively similar to other songs that went on to be decent sized hits. We’ll see though. Next week or two will be tough but once playlisting improves on Spotify then I can see it lingering around for a bit. Whether it’ll repeal or not idk.
Probably not something that is in the original rules but...

Is it that a song hits ACR at 3 years regardless of what it's doing in the charts?

Yes it should. That’s the rules. When Perfect kept avoiding ACR after it passed the 3 year threshold, OCC forced it onto ACR

Biography

Rudimental

Music knows roots but not borders, and the same is true of Rudimental. Since forming in 2011, the London quartet of producers (Piers Aggett, Kesi Dryden, Amir Izadkhah, and Leon Rolle) has faithfully championed UK dance music’s hybrid spirit, fusing drum ’n’ bass, house, reggae, and more into a soulful amalgam. When they appeared with early singles like the barnstorming 2012 anthem “Feel the Love,” there was nothing else like them out there: UK underground dance tilted toward cozily retro house, while EDM was in ascendance around the world. Rudimental sidestepped both trends, favoring songwriting over club tracks and pulling from a broad range of inspirations—though songs like the shuffling “Spoons” proved them adept at the deepest strains of UK garage, and “Waiting All Night” could dwarf the biggest main-stage banger. Rather than hog the limelight, the producers turned the lens back on the multicultural stomping grounds of their native Hackney, whose famous Peace Carnival mural is depicted on the cover of their debut album, 2013’s Home. Similar themes of solidarity and community uplift powered subsequent albums; so did the group’s knack for finding exactly the right singer for their songs. In addition to their rotating cast of top-shelf contemporary vocalists like MNEK, Sinead Harnett, and Ed Sheeran, they brought in bona fide legends like soul icon Bobby Womack and South African choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. It’s a way of acknowledging that, much as dance music needs to keep moving forward, it’s nothing if it forgets its past. - Apple Music

Charlotte Plank

Charlotte Plank is a 22 year old singer-songwriter-producer inspired by an eclectic array of artists, genres and eras from 90s grunge and DnB to modern Pop. Her music will take you through from the commute to the rave, bridging the underground to the mainstream alongside bringing you a nostalgic yet new unique sound. Charlotte has been set up for an exciting 2023; featured in NMEs 100 emerging artists for the year and as one of the legendary Zane Lowe's artists to watch in 2023. - Spotify

Vibe Chemistry

Vibe Chemistry is a UK based Drum & Bass producer best known for his Radio 1 play-listed track ‘Balling’ and other vibe filled hits such as ‘Living Like This’ & most recently ‘Baddest’. Since 2012 Vibe Chemistry has been inspired by all spectrums of Drum & Bass and since July 2021 landed his first label deal with DnB Allstars with his ‘Balling EP’. Balling hit #1 in the UK Top 200 Shazam Chart, #1 on Beatport, was B-Listed at Radio 1 and sat top 40 in the UK singles chart for 7x weeks. After this success he also released an Edit inviting talented vocalists to put their spin on his track. On Spotify alone he now has 8 (and counting) tracks with over 1 million plays, showing that the future is looking highly positive for Vibe Chemistry and we can’t wait to hear what he releases next. - Spotify

Hopefully a future top 5 for 'Good Love', it's not the most innovative dance hit we've had of late but it's a banger nonetheless, definitely miles clear of the other dance hits currently ahead of it (minus 'Miracle').

Love Peggy’s new one, hope it goes top-3 eventually! I wouldn’t call her Korean-Korean though, as I think she’s based in Berlin?

Yeah she does live in Germany atm but she lived in South Korea until she was 14 (and then again for 6 months when she was 18) according to the fountain of knowledge (Wikipedia).

I think Switch Disco are releasing CD single this week, so this may come back to top 5 next week

i believe the cd was impacting this weeks chart but i may be wrong

im back, so so so happy cruel summer made it back in with the reset, expecting a big climb for it next week! also nice to see climbs for anne-marie and nice to see peggy devbut top 15. hope that climbs next week. its a shame leigh anne missed out on the top 10 though

Biography

In a 2019 interview with Apple Music, Harry Styles shared a memory from the early days of One Direction. They were in the studio in Sweden working on “What Makes You Beautiful”. First single, the rollercoaster train just starting to climb the track. Someone comes into the room and says there are a couple of girls outside. Why? the band asks. They’re looking for you guys. For One Direction. “And we’re all just like, ‘But we’re in Sweden!’”

Ah, the old, “who…us?” routine. Harry! Incorrigibly charming, dreamboat for starry-eyed youth the world over. And, as it turns out, a legitimate force in pop, the kind of artist who could bridge contemporary appeal with classic values in ways that felt fresh but familiar, universal.

Part of what had made One Direction so great was that they never shied away from the pleasures of boy-band pop, but never patronised their audiences or fell back on gimmicks, either: Never mind the no-dancing policy; they were writing songs, exploring music as something beyond the show. In his solo career, Styles (born 1994, in Redditch, England) has done much the same, combining soul (“Watermelon Sugar”), confessional soft rock (“Sign of the Times”) and psychedelia (“Sunflower, Vol. 6”) with a modern touch, summarising where pop has been while also pushing it forward. “I’m just trying to go through life being a little less worried about stuff,” he said. “Definitely with working. Because ultimately, it’ll be okay.” He had a busy five years there. But he’s got a lifetime ahead of him. - Apple Music
