BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 26 and auto-qualifying for the June monthly round is Jain - Makeba.

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 27 and auto-qualifying for the July monthly round is Olivia Rodrigo - vampire.

Rounding out the first half of the year, we've eschewed the rap dominated new hits of the week and given the win for week 26 to 2015 track 'Makeba' from French singer and first time chartee Jain (becoming the second French poll winner after David Guetta, and a second week in a row of an artist winning with their first chart hit), belatedly charting thanks to an SCR reset after recent TikTok virality. Jain got votes from just short of half of voters and finished 5 votes ahead of 2nd placed Stormzy and Fredo. The winner for week 27 was in much less doubt as although it has thus far fallen short of getting the UK #1, American former Disney star and chart titan of the decade to date Olivia Rodrigo's sophomore lead single 'vampire' easily romped to a victory with the support of 7 in 10 voters, 8 votes ahead of Charli XCX's 'Mickey' sampling offering from the Barbie soundtrack.

The Barbie soundtrack also produced a double figure voted song in week 26 from Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice and Aqua coming in 3rd, 2 votes behind Stormzy, while 4th placed venbee and Rudimental also just made it to the double figures. Only one further song reached the mark in week 27 and it's a collective taste failure Fall Out Boy's much talked about (putting it kindly) rewrite of the Billy Joel classic 'We Didn't Start The Fire', coming in 3rd 5 votes behind Charli. It's all rap going into the single figures in both weeks, for week 26 the only song to fall short of 5 votes was the opening track from Young Thug's album from behind bars featuring Drake, though their other collab from the same album performed a bit better. 2 of Lil Uzi Vert's 3 songs from their album bomb fell short of the 5 vote mark in week 27, with the Nicki Minaj (and Eiffel 65) assisted 'Endless Fashion' just about squeaking ahead of Travis Scott collab 'Aye' on 4 and 3 votes respectively. Even with all 3 of their songs' votes added together Uzi would only have ranked 4th for the week. Commercial success counts for something for the latest offering from D-Block Europe and Clavish, the most votes a song by either of them has managed to date in these polls (despite being imo the worst song from both of them in the year so far but hey ho).

Another week of 7 new entries here, totalling 23 minutes and 30 seconds, bumped up a bit by Taylor Swift's songs both being relatively lengthy by top 100 hit standards. I've only included the Taylor's Version of 'Enchanted' on the playlist since it's not combined with the original for chart purposes but if for some reason you greatly prefer the original feel free to judge it based on that version. Taylor probably going for becoming the first artist to win 3 of these polls, unless she succumbs to the competition from, er, D-Block Europe or Tory Lanez (how did we let him chart again?) In all seriousness I imagine her competition will just be herself, although NewJeans had a surprisingly successful result earlier in the year so you never know.

Back on schedule with these weekly threads again, let's see how long that lasts this time B-) Slightly belated June monthly round coming up tonight as well!

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

You have until Sunday evening to vote, if I can remain on schedule :jump:

Taylor Swift - I Can See You (#6) - nice track, would not have called this being first cherry-pick especially with it being so far down the album tracklist

Taylor Swift - Enchanted (Taylor's Version) (#15) - also very nice, really enjoyed some of her old school stuff in this vein much like my fave album of hers Fearless

D-Block Europe - Potential (#48) - the vocals sound awful here? even on their less interesting tracks I tend to like Adz's voice but here hell no

NewJeans - Super Shy (#59) - was expecting to like this as I enjoyed their last hit but this is so run of the mill

Tory Lanez and Trippie Redd - Hurts Me (feat. Yoko Gold) (#92) - sonically this sounds really great

Prinz and Gabriela Bee - Highs & Lows (#99) - horrendous, sounds like a shite version of a stormzy reject

Kali Uchis - Moonlight (#100) - swear I've already heard this and don't know where it would have been if not in one of these previously, oh the track? s'pretty good

Voted Taylor x2, Tory & Kali.

01. Taylor Swift - I Can See You (#6)

02. Kali Uchis - Moonlight (#100)

03. Taylor Swift - Enchanted (Taylor's Version) (#15)

04. NewJeans - Super Shy (#59)

05. Tory Lanez and Trippie Redd - Hurts Me (feat. Yoko Gold) (#92)

06. Prinz and Gabriela Bee - Highs & Lows (#99)

Voted for 'I Can See You' this week! It has been stuck in my head a lot the past few days.

1. Taylor Swift - I Can See You

2. Taylor Swift - Enchanted (Taylor's Version)

3. Tory Lanez and Trippie Redd - Hurts Me (feat. Yoko Gold)

4. Kali Uchis - Moonlight

5. NewJeans - Super Shy

6. Prinz and Gabriela Bee - Highs & Lows

7. D-Block Europe - Potential

Voting for the two Taylor tracks this month.

'I Can See You' is one of my favourite things she's released in ages. 'Enchanted' just about gets a vote, it's decent.

Tory's trash but 'Hurts Me' is pretty smooth. Trippie drags it down a bit though. 'Moonlight' didn't hit me massivly on first listen but does sound like it could be a grower. It's interesting to hear a bit of a K-Pop/DnB mix-up with 'Super Shy'. The second verse bangs but the rest falls a little flat.

'Highs & Lows' is rubbish. Nothing about it works at all and his last one was much more interesting. 'Potential' is easily one of D-Block's worse ever. I don't think I've ever said this before but Dirtbike LB was the highlight. Adz's auto-tune is horrific.

I went for Enchanted, Moonlight and Super Shy. Hoping Moonlight can make some good gains in the coming weeks.

1. Taylor Swift - Enchanted (Taylor's Version)

2. Kali Uchis - Moonlight

3. Taylor Swift - I Can See You (Taylor's Version)

4. Newjeans - Supershy

5. D Block Europe - Potential

6. Prinz & Gabriela Bee - Highs & Lows

7. Tory Lanez & Trippie Redd - Hurts Me (feat. Yoko Gold)

Its quite hard to think that it took 13 years to get an all-time Taylor Swift classic into the UK charts, at least it happened! I really enjoyed Kali Uchis' last record, probably my favourite for her to date so i'm very pleased to see 'Moonlight' get a chart credit. I was quite stuck between who I would give my third vote but I think i'll give it to Taylor, its quite a fun little track that most certainly would've done really well if it had been released in 2010.

It looks like Newjeans might be on track to be the new Blackpink it seems with their rapid popularity growing, this track is cute but not good enough to deserve a vote at this time. I enjoy the production on 'Potential' but as most tracks on their new mixtape are, its dreadful when it comes to lyrics. It sad to see Prinz scoring another chart hit by ripping off 'Coming For You' once again, it just sounds so cringy and tracks that use 2021-era samples are not my favourite tbh.

Then we have Tory. 'Alone At Prom' (his 2021 record) is easily one of the worst albums of the decade so far. It is a blatant rip-off of The Weeknd's 'After Hours' and Tory's new song continues to rip that era off. Maybe his next album before he gets put in prison for possibly two decades will rip-off 'Dawn FM'?

Voting for Enchanted and Moonlight (the latter I've been loving since its release, great to see it finally charting). I still don't quite get I Can See You, definitely not a standout for me but I find Speak Now's vault tracks a bit underwhelming in general after how good Red's were. The Tory Lanez track isn't that bad but it is still Tory Lanez :puke2:
