Thanks to the 42 people who participated in last week's poll :jump:

Official results from week 29:

[ 26 ] Troye Sivan - Rush (#22)

[ 23 ] Billie Eilish - What Was I Made For? (#10)

[ 22 ] Becky Hill and Chase And Status - Disconnect (#25)

[ 15 ] Lana Del Rey - Radio (#78)

[ 10 ] Oxlade - INTOXYCATED (feat. Dave) (#49)

[ 7 ] Post Malone - Overdrive (#45)

[ 7 ] Sonny Fodera and MK - Asking (feat. Clementine Douglas) (#95)

[ 6 ] J Hus - Masculine (feat. Burna Boy) (#24)

[ 5 ] Jung Kook - Seven (feat. Latto) (#3)

[ 4 ] Fredo - Scoreboard (feat. Tiggs Da Author) (#69)

[ 4 ] Lauren Spencer Smith - Bigger Person (#92)

[ 4 ] Turno, Skepsis and Charlotte Plank - Rave Out (#93)

[ 3 ] J Hus - Militerian (feat. Naira Marley) (#23)

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 29 and auto-qualifying for the July monthly round is Troye Sivan - Rush.

It was a relatively close race this week with three clear frontrunners each getting the support of more than half of voters, but the eventual winner as I expected was South African born Australian Troye Sivan with his comeback single from forthcoming third album 'Something To Give Each Other' that rode pre-release TikTok virality to just outside the top 20, becoming his highest charting song ever as lead artist and his first appearance in the top 40 since 2019. He's the second Australian (after Kylie) and probably the first African-born artist to win one of these polls. He takes the win by 3 votes over Billie Eilish's ballad contribution to the Barbie soundtrack (a much better showing for her than her previous top 100 hit of the year, helping that it is actually a full song this time), while Becky Hill and Chase And Status are one further vote behind in 3rd place - they were ahead of Billie when I checked the other day so thank you last minute voters having taste x A little further back but still cracking double figures, Lana Del Rey's 2012 album track and TikTok hit lands in 4th place, and it's also just about a double figure result in 5th place for another African act, Oxlade (with Dave in tow).

Four songs fall short of the 5 vote mark this week and it's a more diverse selection than the usual rap also-rans - though last place does go to a UK rap act as it often does, J Hus holding up the rear with 3 votes for his Naira Marley collab meaning there's African blood in both first and last place (though the Burna Boy collab from the same album did a bit better, getting twice as many votes). The trio just ahead of 'Militerian' all on 4 votes includes more UK rap from Fredo, dance from Turno et al. (I wonder if this would be more popular if people knew it existed before it charted...) and whatever Lauren Spencer Smith is. Despite having the highest new entry of the week, Jung Kook only just reached the 5 vote threshold at the last minute, I feel like this may be the least successful highest new entry to date although I have not fact checked that.

edit: it is the joint least successful, along with Superstar Pride's 'PAINTING PICTURES' which also got 5 votes when it was the highest of 4 new entries in its week. Hopefully Jung Kook won't end up in the news for the same reason as Superstar Pride in the coming months.

11 songs on offer this week totalling 32 minutes and 2 seconds (5 songs under 3 minutes and the rest are still all under 4). Nearly half of the newies are courtesy of the Barbie soundtrack thanks to a lack of 3 song rule applying to it. RAYE and The Weeknd both challenge for their second poll win. Actually have no idea who's likely to win this week, although there are a few I'm sure I can rule out.

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

You have until Sunday evening to vote :jump:

voted for raye and stormzy, the weekend is such a bop! rayes chorus has been stuck in my head for timeeee. also gave ava a vote as that ones a bop too

1. Beabadoobee - The Way Things Go

2. Lizzo - Pink

3. Ice Spice - Deli

4. Sam Smith - Man I Am

5. Travis Scott, The Weeknd & Bad Bunny - K-POP

6. J Hus - Massacre

7. Ava Max - Choose Your Fighter

8. Stormzy & RAYE - The Weekend

9. Ryan Gosling - I'm Just Ken

10. The Kid Laroi - Forever & Again

11. Zayn - Love Like This

I wouldn't say that there is any bad tracks here but the last two are just downright boring.

Voted for Stormzy/Raye, Lizzo and Ava. Sam's was ok but not enough for a vote from me and I guess Ryan's was fine but not totally on board with that.
Unexpectedly it's Sam Smith who has prevented me from null voting this week, quite an original song - I haven't seen the Barbie movie (yet) so might feel differently about a few others if I had, but Ava's sounded a bit too Ava by numbers. Beabadoobee's was sadly under par too.
Went for Stormzy and Ryan Gosling this week in the small hope BJ just doesn’t automatically vote for anything Ava Max releases!

Or people could just like the song?

4. Stormzy and RAYE - The Weekend

5. Lizzo - Pink

6. Ice Spice - Deli

8. Ryan Gosling - I'm Just Ken

9. The Kid LAROI - Forever & Again

10. ZAYN - Love Like This

11. Sam Smith - Man I Am

I'm voting for my top 4 this week. 'the way things go' is lovely. beabadoobee is 2/2 on gorgeous tracks this year. 'Chose Your Fighter' is no less generic than most of Ava's tracks but I'm enjoying this one. Maybe it's due to the Barbie connection. 'Massacre' is better than the 2 Hus tracks from last week and 'The Weekend' is alright but not what I want from Stormzy.

I don't usually enjoy Lizzo but 'Pink' works. One of her better efforts. I like some of the flows on 'Deli' but the chorus is pretty weak. 'K-Pop' sounds fine but there's nothing interesting about it. 'I'm Just Ken' works fine in the context of the film but is pretty messy on it's own. I'm not feeling 'Love Like This'. I think it sounds quite cheap.

'Forever & Again' doesn't feel very Barbie. Just feels like any other LAROI track. The choruses on 'Man I Am. are actually ok but the verses sound horrible.

11 'Pink' 4/10

Voted for the top 3. Was not expecting the Ava Max song to be my favourite of the Barbie songs let alone the whole week but here we are, she delivered a bop, can definitely see it being an earworm and really liking the instrumental fusing eurodance and video game-esque sounds, my 2nd fave charting song from Barbie overall though quite a way behind Billie. Quite a bit better than any of the singles off her last album imo despite not really being anything new from her...! The other Barbie songs continuing to be mostly solid, LAROI's sounds like a decent Post Malone album track from a couple of eras ago (which is not as much of a criticism as it may sound, I like Post Malone x), the Sam song was certainly interesting (some of those lyrics are a bit odd coming from them but I'm sure that was the point), actually really liked the vocal delivery in the verses but found the chorus didn't quite hit hard enough to be vote worthy, I can definitely see why 'I'm Just Ken' went viral and I'm sure it works great in the context of the film and I do really like the instrumental and surprisingly found the lyrics to not sound toooo strange devoid of context (works better as a song on its own than 'Peaches' for instance) but it's let down by Ryan Gosling just not being that great of a singer. The only Barbie song I'm not feeling at all is the Lizzo one which is serving the kind of juvenility I would have originally expected from a Barbie soundtrack and just sounds pretty boring in general. Kind of glad I'm not here rooting for Lizzo given current events oop. x Barbie aside, I wasn't feeling too enthusiastic about checking out the Stormzy/RAYE song either but it turned out surprisingly good, mainly carried by an excellent performance by RAYE, Stormzy is fine on it as well, a better 00s R&B/hip-hop throwback from him than some other British rappers that have tried it recently. I know 'K-POP' has had very mixed to negative reception but I was still hoping I'd like it and I do, could have fit fine on Bad Bunny's disappointing latest album which is no bad thing, Bad Bunny's part is definitely the best part of it due to him feeling the most at home on that production but the hook is solid and Travis and Abel's verses both decent if nothing spectacular. Much better than Bad Bunny's last Anglo crossover with Gorillaz. 'Deli' is the same flow as ever from Ice Spice but I like that she's shaking up the production style a bit at least although not the most exciting beat I've heard in this style, still one I think I could see growing on me a bit. The verses of 'Love Like This' are good (yay for more UK garage style hits) but the song is spoiled a bit by an underwhelming chorus, especially with the instrumental grinding to a halt every time it starts, wasted potential there but still a step in the right direction for ZAYN. 'the way things go' is cute and pleasant and all but sounds firmly like an album track. And 'Massacre' is the weakest charting song yet from the J Hus album, passable enough on vibes alone but the only thing that really stands out about it is his pronunciation of the titular word and the others he rhymes it with in the chorus which I find slightly jarring.

Aside: this is at least the 3rd time this year, and 2nd time in a row, that the highest new entry lists days of the week in its chorus  (after Nines' 'Calendar' in May and Jung Kook last week).

Stormzy and RAYE - The Weekend (#23) - pretty damn rubbish considering the names involved, and yet another days of the week song? please...

Travis Scott, Bad Bunny and The Weeknd - K-POP (#24) - sooo pedestrian, absolutely no hook at all

Ryan Gosling - I'm Just Ken (#25) - stick to the acting

ZAYN - Love Like This (#36) - it's decent you know? good to see he's not washed quite yet

Lizzo - Pink (#39) - not for me

J Hus - Massacre (#53) - get in the bin with that vomit-inducing pronunciation

Sam Smith - Man I Am (#58) - the chorus is really quite decent but no one needs to hear sam smith pulling a right said fred

beabadoobee - the way things go (#86) - we have billie eyelash, we don't need a beebopadoo

Ice Spice - Deli (#89) - not terrible but wouldn't go back to it

Ava Max - Choose Your Fighter (#90) - by far the best barbie track, that tight production!

The Kid LAROI - Forever & Again (#92) - a more shrill vocal offering from him again (hopefully not forever)

Very very weak week (what poetry lol). Just Zayn & Ava.

Giving this a lil bump as it's about to fall off the first page, a couple of days left to vote :magic:

Aphex Twin presenting another new challenge on what to include in the poll / playlist next week - I think as it's charting primarily from sales of the whole EP I'll include all of the tracks from it on the playlist but with the usual leaving it up to people's discretion on if they vote based on the entire tracklist or just the one song (although I imagine it's a case of people will like either all of the tracks or none of them lol).

I went for Stormzy/Raye, Zayn and Ava. I like the other Barbie tracks and Beabadoobee one, but not enough to go out of my way to listen to them.

01. beabadoobee - the way things go (#86)

02. Stormzy and RAYE - The Weekend (#23)

03. Ava Max - Choose Your Fighter (#90)

04. Ryan Gosling - I'm Just Ken (#25)

05. ZAYN - Love Like This (#36)

06. Sam Smith - Man I Am (#58)

07. Ice Spice - Deli (#89)

08. Travis Scott, Bad Bunny and The Weeknd - K-POP (#24)

09. Lizzo - Pink (#39)

10. The Kid LAROI - Forever & Again (#92)

11. J Hus - Massacre (#53)

just voted for beabadoobee this week!

We have a tie for the lead atm  Will get the new poll and the July monthly round up later tonight (probably after Club Bizarre results) so will see if it's broken by then x

That 50th voter hasn't materialised (yet).

Looks like my first null vote in one of these may be coming from this week's chart.
