April 22, 20241 yr The so-called new Shakespeare Geri Halliwell could probably have wrote more tbh !!!! :cheeseblock:
April 22, 20241 yr I expected Taylor to be huge (for today’s standards!) but not this huge! These sales would have been considered huge back in the late 90s early 00s! Should easily clear 250k outstanding
April 22, 20241 yr Taylor Swift's opening week album sales in the UK: 5. Red (Taylor's Version) - 72,300 4. reputation - 83,600 3. 1989 - 90,300 2. 1989 (Taylor's Version) - 185,000 1. Midnights - 204,500
April 22, 20241 yr I don’t think it was a silly assumption at all to think Midnights would be her absolute commercial peak and this one would do slightly less. Clearly proved wrong in hindsight but hardly an out there thing to predict. Also a fair thing to assume considering we’re not in Q4 where sales are generally heightened, whether you’re Taylor or otherwise.
April 22, 20241 yr I’m not surprised at the those sales, as already mentioned it’s going to be close to Adele for the total but I would bet it might just get past 30s first week sales. Even with the restrictions on the streaming side, I can’t remember an album having 30k at this point in the week, guessing divide did? I tend to agree singles wise with what’s been said by a few with Hozier probably sneaking in at No2 or No3 come weeks end. Interesting it’s dropped off with streaming this week so much.
April 22, 20241 yr Assuming she beats Adele, will that make it the biggest first week since Divide? Not sure what numbers that did?Yes it would be - Adele did 261,856 in week 1, the highest since the 'Divide' week 1 (671,542) and week 2 (303,520) whose streaming equivalent sales of 78,944 and 58,280 respectively have yet to be surpassed too.
April 22, 20241 yr Shocked with there being 2500 units between So Long London and TTPD? On Spotify TTPD was only ahead by 80K for the first day and has been behind everyday since, thought the gap would be less. It must have been ahead on Amazon and iTunes also

Safe to say that that won’t be surpassed again unless there’s some sort of major rule change.
April 22, 20241 yr Any specific reason for Kate Bush to be there? 10inch collectors limited edition single released to promote Record Store day 2024. No new tracks and all sold out so won't stay top 100. Guess 'Eat the Music' was chosen as never officially released in the UK as a single before.

Amazing sales for Taylor *_* I'm not sure if she'll be able to pass Adele though as her sales will likely drop off a lot as the week goes on, might be quite close? Hope she manages 100k+ with "Fortnight"!

April 22, 20241 yr Oasis sold over 600k in 3 days!! Yes, had they had a full chart week they would've likely done higher numbers than Adele! *_* I miss the days of the massive album sales you would see in Q4 of each year. It's a shame only a handful of artists can manage to do 100k+ first weeks now. :(
April 22, 20241 yr Agreed. The album sales you get once in a blue moon like Taylor this week are incredible to see but sadly she could be back at #1 in 5 weeks time with like 12k or something because of how dead the market is on a whole. Tbh back when 30 had it’s opening week I thought that was the last time we’d ever see above 200k for a weekly sale, didn’t expect Taylor to do it twice since.
April 22, 20241 yr Incredible sales for Taylor! I haven't got round to listening to the album yet but what I've heard of it is pretty good (namely 'Fortnight' and 'Florida!!!'). I also do fear that Taylor may now block some reasonably big albums from the top in the weeks to come (I thinking 'Radical Optimism' will have to fight really hard to get that #1, potentially even Kings Of Leon's upcoming album)
April 22, 20241 yr Happy for Fortnight, with huge numbers from Hozier she made it look so easy when we know it isn't. Really amazing.

I think it's unlikely that Dua isn't #1 but it's possible. Edited April 22, 20241 yr by Sour Candy
April 22, 20241 yr Could be a close one. Midnights did 32k in Week 3 while Future Nostalgia opened with 34k for Dua in 2020.
