Saturday at 18:103 days Where did that statement even come from?Obviously the previous one was posted by him but where would they have gotten this from?If it's fake that's a bit pathetic. It's one thing pulling apart something he actually said, we don't need to make things up. Edited Saturday at 18:113 days by Hassaan

Saturday at 21:083 days It is legit in the post. P!nk has also doubled down on her statement and liked Ed's actual real statement but yet again so few people seems to want to mention that and the statements that are made on her are much more gentle expressing disappointment and how it affects them as a fan, while Ed get's called spineless coward and other names.... neither is anyone mentioning the fact that in Macklemore's statement he doesn't blame Ed at all but directs the attention towards the promoter which is clearly a deliberate thing... then not one person has mentioned that horrible Osbourne woman who has gotten involved either... whatever fits the narrative I guess.I'll repeat, I don't agree with Ed or P!nk's behaviour I think they are both utter idiots, but the difference in tone towards both is staggering. Saturday at 21:413 days Genuine question to Spiceboy - why post that?Isn’t it obvious why fans of Pink may have trouble adjusting to the realisation that she doesn’t hold the same moral view? And even despite that the majority of comments are actually still entirely against what she’s saying?I don’t get why your biggest takeaway from all of this seems to be around trying to ensure forum members dislike people equally?

Saturday at 22:093 days Ed was in a position to do something and act on it (but instead he decided to be a coward and back the billionaires instead)Pink was someone who wasn’t even in attendance and just expressed her views (and outed herself).

Reactions are coming in to what's been a developing story over the past week, and Ed's name has been at the forefront of it all. Whether that shows in your own personal algorithms or not, it's the reality. 'Ed Sheeran drops Macklemore from tour' is the biggest hint that not everybody is going to feel clued in on P!nk or bringing other artists up that are completely separate. BBC News continue to cover it with updates on planned protests at his concerts, the value of the tickets decreasing as a result of what's happened, countless articles online, etc. From what I can see, nobody in this thread has heaped praise on P!nk or shares her views but are sharing how difficult it is to see that someone they have been a fan of for however long has indeed disappointed them, and are now reflecting as they have done with other artists previously. When you don't have an emotional attachment there, it can be much easier to arrive at a conclusion. There's nothing stopping anybody from making a separate thread to highlight what P!nk has said/done if you feel it's a discussion worth having (lord knows her AF could do with the boost x), because some people may simply not be aware of her involvement (or at least not the full extent; I know I personally haven't commented on her because I haven't yet read the part she's played in it, what she's said, and her name is largely disassociated from the bigger story). That said, while it might be frustrating I also don't think it's fair to expect that people must comment on the actions of one artist as much as another. People come on here to unwind, post at their leisure, and comment on what they're passionate about... out of want, not obligation.

I am not trying to be personal towards anyone just the general vibe is really frustrating to see one person get ripped to shreds while the other/s do not.Ps, genuinely out this time, I can see I'm going round in circles.

Sunday at 02:113 days Ed has addressed the current situation in his Philadelphia show tonight. More details in the articles of Variety and The Hollywood Reporter here and here, respectively.“Before I play some songs tonight, I hope it’s okay if I say a few words about this last week.I’m used to my music being criticized, and I’m always happy to take that because I’m lucky. A lot of you like my stuff, and to be honest, I’m surprised. I’m not surprised that I’ve even done it. You know, it’s normal. But this week, the criticism was about something much more important, and I’ve had to take and make difficult decisions, and I am making mistakes, and I’m so, so sorry.I don’t want to disappoint fans, and I’ve never wanted to be an activist musician, but this has put me in the middle of an important and passionate argument about freedom of speech and the most complex political issue on the planet. My concerts have always been a safe space for everyone, and that matters hugely to me. Honoring my commitment to my fans is also completely essential to who I am, and that is why I’m here tonight on my own and continuing my current tour.I have tried in my career not to be a political commentator of any kind, because I want my music and shows to be about unity, not division. But this is a humanitarian issue, and I cannot hide how I feel about it anymore. What happened in Israel and at the Nome Museum Festival on Oct. 7 was horrific and compounded centuries of Jewish pain. What is happening in Gaza is catastrophic and unjustifiable, and disproportionate. Our hearts can be broken by the scale of devastation and loss of civilians’ lives, children’s lives and the systemic injustice we’re seeing unfold in the West Bank cannot be overlooked.I am already speaking to people across the spectrum to work out how to make a contribution that helps victims of these terrible times, and listening and learning because I do not know enough.”
Sunday at 02:433 days This is clearly a PR statement and, basically, my overall thoughts about Ed haven't changed at all. It seems to me that he wanted to make this situation (the Macklemore controversy) to be less than what it is, but it fails completely, when he couldn't openly say that there's an on-going genocide in Gaza.
Sunday at 02:503 days I've seen the videos circling around from his Philly concert, and I am trying to give myself some time to properly form my opinion, but yeah my initial thought is that this is pretty much a PR statement read on the teleprompter!!!
Sunday at 06:292 days He’s a little late to the party but better late than never. It appears he’s probably learned something from this mess and rather than continue to criticise him, I’m willing to let it lie.As for P!nk, she is receiving her fair share of criticism everywhere, there’s even a petition to have her removed as an am ambassador for UNICEF circling and rapidly picking up signatures. She’s not exactly getting off lightly. The reason Ed has the focus is because his action was to silence someone, his supposed friend, on their free speech. As much as I disagree with P!nk, she was not powerful enough in this situation to have any direct affect. Essentially she reposted criticism of Macklemore’s actions at the concert and then defended her right to do so, her own right to free speech. Criticising what someone says isn’t the same as censoring them even if you disagree with that criticism. I was happy to see P!nk condemn specifically Hamas and say that she wanted the people of Palestine to have a future and didn’t want to see the deaths of Palestinian children. My issue is that I don’t think she went far enough, and still won’t acknowledge that what is going on is a genocide. I still think she’s blinkered by her religion and how she can’t see the difference between being Jewish and supporting the Israeli government. That is what’s disappointing and I hope she comes round but I have a bad feeling she won’t which is why I’m disappointed. But Ed was initially cowardly and people have the right to to put that out. He was more worried about his own image (something I’ve always noted about him) and ended up making the wrong call for his own image. Of course, his support from last nights show is likely a PR job but I choose to see a lesson learned and him develop as a person.I think it’s really disgusting to criticise people on here for not posting enough criticism of artists to satisfy some poster’s demand of it. I’ve already posted about why the situation is difficult for me and indeed each time I post it’s just as difficult to put words to my current feelings. I’ve explained why I just haven’t felt like posting about P!nk because honestly it’s draining to think about one of my favourite artists in this way. If any other P!nk fans haven’t posted perhaps you could just assume it’s for the same reason instead of childishly assuming they’re taking sides in some petty argument? As for me, it’s has been easier to criticise Ed because his music has never touched me in the way P!nk’s has so I have no conflicting feelings over him. It is easier for me to let go of music I never cared for. That’s just how it is. But I refuse to be criticised for that, I’m dealing with things in my own way. I can feel the same about both artists but find it more difficult to talk about one than the other. And besides my first post in the thread was about both of them. There have also been plenty of posts criticising P!nk in here.
Sunday at 08:062 days It might be a PR esque statement but I think at this point it's probably worse if he says something, knowing how much people are actively wanting to pick apart what he says. Especially when people aren't even trying to hide that they've been "waiting for his downfall".It's not going to be as cut and dried as people on the internet like to think, he's undoubtedly got a team of people advising him (who also are probably struggling to navigate it). It is kind of the equivalent of pinning someone to the ground and acting surprised that they're not able to talk properly. As I said before, his attempts to please everyone was a bad choice for the internet. Edited Sunday at 08:072 days by Hassaan
Sunday at 08:472 days PR statement or no, leading with Israel isn't how I would have said it as it somewhat weakens the statement on Gaza. It reads like "and I guess Gaza is bad too but Israel is the primary victim here".
Sunday at 09:412 days Perhaps I’m too jaded and hopefully he’s learning as a person but being in the industry at his fame level for so many years, I highly doubt he kept up actively educating himself.I’m so tired of celebrities treating their fans like they are stupid. ‘I’m talking to people to figure out how I can help’. Bitch, a genocide is not that complicated. Also, just f***ing donate already. This is just Vague Olympics. So incredibly ironic that in the end he made a political speech at his own show after all this drama. When HE does it, it’s fine, right??! f*** his hypocritical ass.
