I'm still getting Espresso loads. Was getting Billie's Lunch a fair bit but that seems to have been cut now.

 

Seem to randomly be having Addicted by Zedd/The Chainsmokers popping up a lot as autoplay too.

It’s odd as I’ve not had espresso for weeks (not that auto play kicks in much for me) it’s been solidly billie every time for me personally. I might be wrong but I do wonder if it’s down to your listening habits to an extent as I’ve been listening to a lot of Lana or indie stuff lately, which Billies sounds closer to in comparison.

 

Not saying there’s some payloa there but I do think it’s kind of linked to your music trends/habits to some extent.

I listen to the music I want rather than random Spotify songs that might pop up after a playlist or album

I do think it’s kind of linked to your music trends/habits to some extent.

 

It is. It's some combination of music that similar to the song/album/playlist with weighting towards music similar to what you usually listen to. There's also a random number generator involved so the songs will be in a different order each day with some new ones added in and some removed.

 

For example, if you listen obsessively to some unknown artist they will start appearing in the autoplay lists of songs/albums/playlists that are considered by the Spotify algorithm to be vaguely similar, but just for you, not for other people.

 

But these autoplay deals (I think they call it "Discovery mode") bypasses most of this, which is why it's so noticeable to those that use the feature.

 

Like it's a cool feature because before these autoplay deals started you could put on California Gurls, for example, and then get a "2012 Capital FM" experience generated if you're in the mood for it lol. But now Espresso always plays and it kind of ruins it. Well not really because you can skip it every time, but you know.

In the past Autoplay used to be great and a cool way wasa to discover new music

I used to love it and have it on cos i found lots of great artists this way

I remember i discovered mitski this way ages before her breakthru

But Autoplay was personalised and varied

 

Now its label-funded and doesnt take into account your taste

Just shovels the same song every 15 minutes and without any

Logic or sense and is 100% paid by labels

 

So in a way its the new Alexa but all thru the year

 

Also now free users cannot select it off

So they have it want it or not

I'm surprised the latest Aitch track hasn't taken off on streaming platforms, it sounds like one of his most commercial singles to my ears. Is his chart career done already?

To me his chart career has felt done on several occasions and he's eventually made some sort of comeback, so I'd guess probably not.

I quite like it. Aside from the first song or two being ones that are pushed by spotify (usually enjoy them though), the songs after are generally aligned to my listening habits and I often get a mix of songs I haven't listened to in a while but love (Ariana Grande - "Into You" & Lizzo - "Juice" as examples from today, infact I ended up putting "Into You" on repeat a few times :lol:) and then every now and then a new song in the mix that I haven't heard before - recent example being The Marias - "Run Your Mouth" or from a few years ago Japanese Breakfast's - "Be sweet".

I've had 'Run My Mouth' on autoplay many times recently! I knew the song from BJSC (and gave it 1 point there), but it must have been given a push.
