Do the free downloads of Moon Music, given to those whose physicals were held up, count as sales? I was thinking it may have been a tool to help increase the numbers, much like the way they've Taylored the Full Moon edition.

I really want to include some positivity in my weekly chart reviews but I can't sadly because it's all looking dull

Sydney Christmas from BGT only charts her album at 44 this week. I see someone on DS says it'll be the No.1 album this Christmas. She has an ITv special in Dec and the Royal Variety will shift a few CD's.

Looks like Jake Bugg will miss the top 10 in the albums chart, after 5 straight top 10s. I really liked his last album, but a lot of his fanbase didn't, and looks like they've gone AWOL now.

Music of the Spheres shifted just over 100k Week 1 in 2021. They have had such a huge tour in the interim period between albums though (which is still ongoing into next year) which could explain the hike in sales and an increased interest in this era (Glasto headline slot possibly helped pre-orders too).

 

Yeh I think this is one explanation as the tour was lauded everywhere esp the Glasto one and the one in Dublin!

Damn that’s like 80% of what Taylor did. Looks like they will land around 200K.

 

If Charli doesn’t have vinyls she is missing #1 again, as imagine they will manage at least 25-30K in there second week.

 

There’s only 2k in streams so I think there will be quite a second week fall.

Doubtful Perrie or Leigh Anne’s album will ever come; both performing terribly.

Yes I'm absolutely sure it will get a release. Although her solo career hasn't gone the way I'm sure she / her label would have hoped, she can surely shift 5k albums.

 

Oh wow at Coldplay, thought they’d get six figures but not that much. I feel like the tour has helped with this a lot, not sure it’ll clear 200k and as already said, a steep drop next week. Good on them though, nice to see an act having huge first week sales.

 

Lady Mars are so close to No2, I think No3 is possible but could even get a little higher. Next week if there is a clear out then then that might be the week to do it providing nothing else takes off. Hopefully Pink Pony Club can make the top 10 too.

I think coldplays album is really poor and i think perries singles is not very good at all.

In lieu of a full list, the last Coldplay album to sell more than this on its first week was A Head Full Of Dreams in 2015, with 235,975 to enter at #2 behind Adele's 25 on its third week.

 

Obviously the streaming market has grown a lot since then at the expense of pure sales, which are still the driver of first weeks like this but are now more reliant on the fanbase than on casual purchasers.

The 4 Taylor Swifts... They always play it safe so as not to lose their audience. UK has a pretty bland taste sometimes.
