Scott Mills sacked from BBC Radio 2 over 'personal conduct'

Mills took over the breakfast show from Zoe Ball in 2025.

Pretty shocking news just in - not many details yet though.

Oh gosh, this is difficult to properly comment on right now with so little information, but it has come as a real shock! I'm not a Radio 2 listener in general but kept up with Scott's show since its inauguration as I appreciate his music taste and utmost passion for radio. I started a new job at the same time he moved to Breakfast so took comfort in a shared new beginning at the time. What a shame.

Very shocking, although agreed it's best not to assume anything or comment until details come to light.

Logistically it will have quite a big impact on the BBC as he's been around since the late 90s, recently showing up on TOTP repeats from 1999, and was presumably due to commentate the Eurovision semi-finals again, not to mention a new presenter for the Breakfast Show.

This is a shock. Obviously we know nothing ‘personal conduct’ could mean all sorts of things. But they’ve sacked him rather than just suspended him which suggests whatever it is is pretty big.

And Scott Mills has always been one of my favourite DJs, I loved listening to his show on Radio 1 when I was at uni and I catch him on Radio 2 every now and then but I’m usually out the his before his show would come on.

I’m bracing myself for being upset yet again that someone I enjoyed has another side to them…

I also listened to him quite a bit back in the day on Radio 1 as chart show cover and sometimes his own show and he always came across as a very passionate and down-to-earth person so this is a real shock. Whatever it is, it must be pretty serious and clear if they were to sack such a big name instantly with no investigation...

This is very shocking to say the least as a avid fan of his Radio 1 days...I would also echo comments of it nust be big if he was sacked rather than suspended. Maybe more will come out over time.

There's so many rumours flying around as to why he has been given the boot. We'll just have to wait and see why.

Shocked is definately the right word when i saw it flash up i thought no this is some kind of stunt or early April Fool but it's true!

Sad, I actually really like/d him so I'm hoping it's nothing terrible - although an outright sacking with immediate effect doesn't exactly look good.

The Mirror are claiming that it 'relates to a historic relationship dating back more than 10 years'.

I think the BBC acted so fast to avoid being accused of a cover-up like what happened with Huw Edwards. New Director General just taken over so he wouldn't want that.

Shocked when i read this used to listen to Scott, Chris and Becky all the time when they were on Radio 1.

He always seemed like the dependable, safe pair of hands for a radio show - and off course appears regularly on Eurovision and heaps of other BBC shows. It feels like there is no information about the reason and it would be wrong to speculate.

I guess after several other incidents which have gone on and spiralled, the BBC are showing a zero tolerance policy for pretty much anything. Which is sort of what happened with Jamie Borthwick in EE, other stars on EE/ other BBC shows have done fair worse and kept their jobs.

But yeah was shocked to see the headline earlier.

It must be bad if something that occurred ten years ago can get you sacked today.

This is horrid news. Scott has very much shaped my radio experience since I was a kid. Echoing others in this thread that we don't have much to go on but to be sacked suggests it's incredibly serious.

Looks like it was something really serious that got Scott Mills sacked. The BBC can't afford to have another Huw Edwards situation.

I'm going to reserve judgement again. Hoping something can clear itself up. I feel a nasty homophobic undertone in a way a lot of stories are reported nowadays. Very shocking this. I am sure the usual suspects on Xitter will be crowing and casting aspersions before you know it too.

Very shocking, you must imagine that whatever it is, it is severe enough that there's no 'suspending pending investigation' or anything of the sort, the BBC is sure and they are making a clean break.

Someone who it seemed was a pair of safe hands for the BBC for nearly 3 decades as well.

Have now seen substance abuse speculation rather than anything else. If that, would be a relief. Wait and see I suppose

If it's that, surely they wouldn't be announcing it and Scott would have a chance to get on top of it?

I have no idea what it could be, but firing someone immediately for substance abuse (when they haven't really displayed any obvious signs of it), seems like an odd one. We obviously don't know what's gone on behind the scenes though.
