Tuesday at 21:231 day Enjoyed it at the time but it’s not something I find myself ever going back to now. Of course I agree with all the above sentiments regarding TLTL ❤️
Tuesday at 21:321 day I'd started to think I might get through this rate without any bottom 2 appearances, but forgot this was still to come. I could say the backing vocals were apt ("Waste of time!") but that's a bit harsh - maybe this was a case of too much, too early for Jojo?
Tuesday at 21:541 day I’m not her biggest fan by any means but can admit she has a few great songs, but Crazy in Love is not one of the good Beyonce songs. They say music can take you to a different place and for me, that song takes me to the smoking area or the exit. It’s godawful and has been ever since I was a kid. The golden era of R&B influenced pop music was not defined by this song.Leave (Get Out) though, what a SONG!! I find it mad that she was as young as she was at the time and delivered such a banger. Baby It’s You following and being on the same level, Jojo is something special!
Tuesday at 22:301 day I didn't care for 'Crazy In Love' for several years but gradually began liking it and randomly charted it for a time in 2008. 'Leave (Get Out)' is great but I'm also on the love 'Too Little Too Late' more bandwagon.
Yesterday at 17:441 day Author 06 Kylie Minogue - Better the Devil You Knowavg: 8.45👑 Pop Royalty: 11 (Jessie Where), 10 (DaTilt, Scene, 777666jason, ...ready for it, gooddelta, lewistgreen, Nina West, leww)❌ Pop Flop: 5 (Billy.), 6 (Lee_J11, Julian_)Kylie departs the countdown on the same day as the release of her Netflix documentary series! 'Better The Devil You Know' exits with a strong 8.45 average.Minogue successfully transitioned from soap star to pop princess in the late 1980s. Her first two albums Kylie and Enjoy Yourself continued to present her as the girl next door. She still worked with '80s heavyweight producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman for third album Rhythm of Love but additional collaborators were introduced to update her sound for the '90s. Kylie had been dissatisfied with her lack of involvement in the creative process up to now, so was given more of a voice behind the scenes for this era. Lead single 'Better the Devil You Know' was a club-ready dance-pop pivot and the accompanying video introduced a more mature image reinvention. This single was well-received and became a landmark moment for her LGBTQ+ audience, thanks to its heavy rotation in gay clubs. 'Better the Devil You Know' reached #2 in the U.K. chart back in 1990, Kylie's fifth #2 single. It was a neat 10th top 10 for her at this point too. Another floorfiller known as 'Killer' blocked her from the top on this occasion, as Adamski stayed at #1 for a month. Fellow Pete Waterman project Steps would later cover this song at the tail end of the '90s and reached #4 with it. Compilation closer 'Better the Devil You Know' stood out like a sore thumb on the Pop Princesses 2 track list as it is at least a decade older than everything else included! You couldn't get much better than this for Jessie Where so Kylie received his top marks. The song wasn't devilish enough for anyone to properly hate, but Billy. did give it an average 5.
Yesterday at 18:001 day Classic Kylie deserves a 10 - great banging SAW production - the perfect pop BOP!
Yesterday at 18:001 day I had to give it my 11 as it's the best song here, but it does feel like a remarkably odd inclusion when they had any of the Fever singles to choose from.I assume for whatever reason they couldn't get Parlophone to license any of them?
Yesterday at 18:031 day I can’t say I’ve ever really cared for / knew too much about this song as I grew up with the Steps version instead. But regardless of that, it’s inclusion on this compilation is truly baffling 😂
21 hours ago21 hr I feels a little out of place here, but it’s still a great song. Shane it just missed the top 5.
21 hours ago21 hr Crazy in love is a banger still one of Beyonce best Leave (Get out ) I was definitely very harsh with a 3 now I git reaquainted with it, its a bop and I would at least rate it 8 nowBetter the Devil you know, kylies version just edges out steps version for me and is a banger
21 hours ago21 hr 'Better The Devil You Know' is an odd inclusion due to being so much older than everything else, but it's fine, I just don't feel it stands out as much sonically from SAW's previous productions for Kylie as its legendary status suggests it should.
20 hours ago20 hr “Better The Devil” has bog standard SAW production and is very of its time so I can’t love it, but the song itself is good.
16 hours ago16 hr I also enjoy 'Leave (Get Out)' more than I did at the time (but it was EVERYWHERE in my school when it was released!) Firmly in the 'Too Little Too Late' is better camp! My next favourite JoJo song is 'The Other Chick' though. SOOOO good! Should've been huge but her label were horrific to her!'Better The Devil You Know' is a fun Kylie bop. It's actually better, live! Just an utter joy. However, it feels so dated! Which prevents me from going back to it nearly as much as I should. It's far superior to STEPS version.
9 hours ago9 hr Kinda thought Kylie would be higher than 6th and that 'Better The Devil You Know' is a huge fan favourite.Still got my only remaining 9 (and an 11) in the top 5. Edited 9 hours ago9 hr by AllStarBySmashMouth
9 hours ago9 hr Kylie Minogue - Better The Devil You Know, one of her greatest all-time classics & showed the birth of an artist starting to evolve her sound into the 90's.
1 hour ago1 hr Author 05 P!nk - Don't Let Me Get Meavg: 8.66👑 Pop Royalty: 11 (lewistgreen, Tafty), 10 (Viper*, Jessie Where, Dobbo, 777666jason, ...ready for it, Nina West, leww, Roba.)❌ Pop Flop: 4 (Chez Wombat), 6 (DaTilt, Henessy Lake)P!nk improves on her 9th place performance in the first Pop Princesses rate with a top 5 showing this time. She achieved the exact same average as the song in 4th place, but that track won out on a tiebreak. More on that tomorrow. They can both boast an 8.66 result.P!nk led her sophomore album Missundaztood with previous Pop Princesses competitor 'Get The Party Started', a big hit for her. She followed this up with the rockier 'Don't Let Me Get Me' for single #2. Linda Perry may have written 'Get The Party Started' but P!nk has a writing credit this time, alongside Dallas Austin, who also produced the song. 'Don't Let Me Get Me' was written about her low self esteem and sees P!nk comparing herself to "damn Britney Spears", although she since updated this line to the softer "sweet Britney Spears" in live performances.'Don't Let Me Get Me' charted at #6 in the U.K. and was neatly her sixth top 10 to date. P!nk was the fourth highest top 40 debut that week in 2002, behind: Liberty X's 'Just A Little' at #1, Enrique's 'Escape' at #3 and 'What's Luv' by Fat Joe and Ashanti at #4. 'Don't Let Me Get Me' was a Stateside success too, as it charted at #8 there.lewistgreen and Tafty wanted to paint the town p!nk and awarded her an 11 each. Meanwhile, Chez Wombat was not so impressed and provided the lowest score of 4.
