'Everything Changes' is not really a Take That favourite of mine, even with the Robbie spotlighting, but it's leagues better than 'Sure' - so I'm glad it's higher!

'Doop' is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me too. I do love a charleston so it checks out I guess x

I'm a fan of Prince but I would not consider 'The Most Beautiful Girl in the World' a discography highlight at all, so an underwhelming sole #1. At least my favourite single of his, 'When Doves Cry', did get to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

    I loved it… then I hated it… now we’re on speaking terms

Oh it should be subjective, much more interesting to see how you rank them rather than list what you think other people may want to see ☺️

Love is All Around is okay for what it is, but not something I’d ever seek out - same evaluation I’d give the other mammoth film soundtrack hits from the first half of the 90s. I wouldn’t rank it last

Yes I am really glad Prince got a UK number one, what a travesty it would have been if he hadn’t. One of my all time favourite artists and although this is not one of my favourite songs of his, it’s still a great Prince ballad. I agree with Jade, When Doves Cry is his best, awesome song in every way!

The intro of Most Beautiful Girl In The World reminds me of Whitesnake - Is This Love!

The song is a bit over sweet lyrically and Prince has better songs.

Most Beautiful Girl is a last hurrah as he was busy pissing off his fans (like me) getting all petulant about his brand name and label, and the rest of his career was not anywhere near as essential as the first 14 years. It's quite pleasant, but it in no way sits with the album Purple Rain, and highlights after that like Sign O The Times, Alphabet Street, Kiss, I Wish U Heaven, or even songs he gave away like Manic Monday, I Feel For You, Nothing Compares 2 U. To name a but a few!

I quite enjoy that Prince song. I suppose a lot of acts had their biggest hit in the 90s with a ballad or slower song that wasn't typical of their usual style (Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Extreme). I know Prince has other ballads but obviously none as big as this.

Doop is good fun, a very different kind of song to get to No.1!

This was definitely the biggest summer anthem of 1994 - it was everywhere. I was in Lloret de Mar this summer and everyone went crazy to it. I bought a compilation cassette there including it and we blasted it all over the street. It became even bigger through the specific dance in the video, which was copied everywhere.

"Saturday Night" charted in the UK in August 1994 only based on imports. The official UK release landed beginning of September 1994 and went straight to #1. I was very happy with that outcome as finally we got rid of that dull Wet Wet Wet song on top.

Whigfield was not only danish singer Sannie Carlson but also the two Italien producers Davide Riva and Larry Pignagnoli (who produced also hit songs for Ann Lee and Benny Benassi). After "Saturday Night", Whigfield had two further top 10 hits ("Another Day" and "Think Of You") and in total 5 top 40 hits.

While I still like hearing this song, I am not superenthusiastic on it anymore. It is a fine piece of Eurodance with a big summer feel, but there are four #1's still to come.

Dee dee dee na na na!

I remember it and my parents talking about it at the time I was only three years old - didn't really like it as it I thought it was a hedonistic weekend drinking and partying anthem!

Now I like it though.

Still love it. Would be my runner up. I suspect danders* and myself have the same number 1.

Also Calvin and Rihanna's We Found Love kind of copied the synth riff from Saturday Night even my parents noticed that!

This would be #1 for me. I didn't hear it before its #1 debut so it came out of nowhere for me, but all of its components are so catchy - all the da-ba-da-dum bits, and then there is the dance.

Of the 4 songs left, one is my second favourite, the others I haven't thought about much lately but one I liked a lot at the time, one I didn't but it's quite distinctive as a #1, and one is so ingrained with the time I started following the charts that I've never had much of an opinion on it either way.

Saturday Night is pretty irresistible euro dance, so catchy. Always brings a smile to my face.

I had to look up what's left as couldn't remember off the top of my head, but Saturday Night is easily my No.1 of the year. I very fondly remember it from the time despite only being 7, because my sister used to listen to it all the time, often while getting ready to go out on a Saturday night. We used to try and learn the dance. Such an infectious track. Novelty Eurodance sure but the production is just so strong and sharp on it, and the hook is insanely catchy. Love the intro too, dee dee na na na!

Quite irritating at the time, if any pop ditty could be called annoyingly catchy it's Saturday Night, but I don't mind it in small doses these days, or at a party.

1994 is known as breakthrough year for BritPop, but regarding #1's only one rock song made #1 in 1994. Thanks to a Levis advertising spot, Stitskin's song "Inside" went viral in spring 1994. Overall, this can be seen as a one hit wonder, eventhough Stiltskin had one more top 40 hit in the lower regions. I was mainly into dance at that time and rock songs rarely spotted my attention. However, this one I loved from the beginning - such a great production and a supercatchy refrain. Nowadays, this is my 4th favourite #1 of 1994.

I can never remember how that song goes - I've just had to listen to it now to remind myself... which is really odd as I could definitely sing any of the other #1s from this era (if not the 90s as a whole)... yet when I do listen to it, I enjoy it and remember which one it is - but I've already forgotten how it goes again. It's definitely an outlier in the #1s from the time, but one that I'm glad made it as it's good to have something different. Despite me not recalling how it goes, I'd also rank it highly.

I don't like many of these 1994 number 1s but this is a good one. The singer, Ray Wilson, went on to join Genesis two years later after Phil Collins left but they only did one album with him before Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford decided to bring the group to a close. That was a shame as he's a good vocalist.
