I agree that people should listen, and always have listened, to old music at least as much as whatever's come out in the last couple of months. At the same time, I want the top 40 to reflect whatever's come out in the last couple of months. That feels like its main job to me. A pretty static list of the songs across the whole history of music that people are listening to the most is... I don't know, just not very interesting or relevant. Certainly doesn't need presented every week. Once a year would do.

I think people can listen to anything they want, but playlists are just like listening radio and should not be included in the charts

I can’t see anything challenging it - I’m glad it’s going to go for the record and potentially beat one that’s been in place since 1953.

I’m more shocked that there is nothing that has been able to take advantage of the lower streams at the top end of the charts and mount a challenge.

They played it in 2018 when it was #1 after England's semi final elimination, and in 2021 and 2024 when it was Top 10 following England's Euro final defeats. So I'm sure it will be played.

Personally it will feel more hollow to hear it tomorrow than on any of those occasions given the team's propensity to keep making the same mistakes when in good positions, but that's for a different forum.

Ah ok yeah fair enough tbh i stopped listening to the charts for a while so i never knew they played it and then only started listening again from October 2024- now

She’d done 3.5k by Mondays midweek so I’d say it’s almost impossible that she’s dropped to 31. People have been speculating that it’s a specific variant that they are counting separately at the moment but should hopefully fix by tomorrows chart.
