Well this is a nice surprise. Stem (without the Long Stem when it was released a single) has been one of my favourite pieces of music for decades. I was just mesmerised by it all and then even more amazed when I found out it was done with 100% samples.

I hadn't really thought about entering it until last month but I had faith in Bravdo so I thought I would stick with that.

Ever since the semis were announced gd kept saying that DJ Shadow will not fail. I had my doubts in even qualifying because this edition was touted to be a pop edition.

What a rollercoaster the results were for the Spodic Empire...

🖤 Thanks for all the Nelly votes this month. Baffled tbh. I was convinced we were heading for an Aeroche landslide and was really rooting for Persephonia or Althub this month, so seeing those last few results trickle in felt like Nelly winning another Grammy over Beyoncé

I had to check this because my little Nelly rule has always been to avoid recycling an artist during the same era, and I broke that with Big Chemistry which felt like cheating. Ascendant Vierge were sent a year before I even joined BJSC, and over two years before my entry. Night Tapes were entered over a year prior, from a different album cycle. I won't disagree about Tourist, because even I considered not sending this, but I loved it too much to let it go. My reasoning was Tamara Flores is the lead artist on a Spanish language song with Tourist credited as producer, so it felt like a genuine discovery

It feels like so long since Persephonia last won, which was during my debut contest over 11 years ago now, so that was a fun narrative to root for but can't knock 'Bésala Mucho' getting there instead, as that's another great winning song this year. Happy 'cherry cola' still did as well as 2nd for Brer, especially after a run of DNQs 🍒 Olivia Rodrigo's album is one of my favourites this year so that brand of pop music clearly appeals to me.

Looks like I voted for half of the top 10 this month as POPHub, Aeroche and The Spodic Empire all made the cut too. The latter nation are on a roll right now after getting my 18 last month and more strong points this time. Glad Aeroche recovered well after the shocking scenes of them languishing low.

...the same cannot be said for my own performance but Skall ended my night on a high with that 18 so thank you Harve 😍 and 33rd is a unique position yesssss!! So only 38th and 39th to tick off from the top 40 now, an interesting challenge for next month I have a fuzzy guitar potential, with an appropriate title for Halloween, that might fit the bill.

Not me coming 5th in the semi though?! Nice to know I was a lot safer there than anticipated...! Gigi Ros so close to not making it in the other semi

Shame to see Zephyra Continuum and New Helvetica in the bottom 10 with me in the final. The latter nation have now matched my first and third results in BJSC *_* which I didn't see coming as I thought 'Ghost Town' would've done better than that, was a really striking version <3

I agree with Chez that the #11-#15 section on the final scoreboard is stacked! Especially pleased to see a new personal best for Herbilore.

Oh grats to Nelly! Glad we had a song I voted for win this, although POPHub coming through would have been extraordinaire! Still 3rd is not to be sniffed at for the best entry by a mile this contest (on top of an already stacked lineup). The previous Tourist entry a few months back was a lot better though so that should have won of the 2 but there seemed to be a bit of a Spanish flair coincidentally or not this month so this all checks out.

What else then well Crystalline should be higher, one of the best anniversaire entries of all time. And Balearic temptations no deserve bottom 10 but can't grumble at much else!

Semi 2 results though!!! Wow so the songs that qualified 19th and 20th were the next 2 on my list to vote for so there could have almost been some foot shooting going on there but as it turns my entry was doomed whatever happened. speaking of which what a shame I didn't hold off until next month to get the guaranteed blacksquare opportunity-to-be-able-to-vote-for-it-ness.

Imagine taking 4 and a half hours to catch up on BJSC final results But now I'm done. Congrats to blacksquare! The spreadsheets really said nope, you ain't done with us quite yet xo

Was weird to see Dalisska fall down to 24th by the end after being in the top 10 (and even top 5 at times) for so long! That was 16th for me, so next in line for points. Neliönoir was 19th.

TBH for me this is the least favourite winner of the year. I already did not like the Tourist song RobBot send earlier this year much, but this I found worse as the vocals sounded to me very exchangeable. Also places 2 and 3 were not among my favourites - never saw the hype around Cherry Cola. Places 4-7 are decent stuff I like a lot and voted for

Another thing I don't get is why Crawlers are placed last - for me this was the standout ALT-song of this contest, but maybe a bit too straight for many. Also Gala should have been rewarded wit more points.

As always now, I just listened to my opposite semi's DNQs (in the deep dark night, as you do) and my favourite of the lot was Pestolia hands down. I can't really say if I would've voted for it but it was easily my favourite, no contest. None of the others were my thing but Aesthetica would probably be second.

upon browsing this scoreboard I think this may be one of my favorite top 10's this year, probably the best since 184 (which coincidentally I was also top 5 in ), and glad to see another winner I voted for, congrats blacksquare again!
