10 Bananarama - Bad For Me

1 Sade - Pearls: really surprised by this and it’s stunning

2 Depeche Mode - Photographic: this is so intense and jangly

3 M83 - Lower Your Eyelids to Die With the Sun: this makes me feel very zen

4 iamamiwhoami - shadowshow: this certainly feels like it could have been a single

5 Ultravox - Accent on Youth: I feel like they chose the singles extremely well but this isn’t far off the pace

6 New Order - Love Vigilantes: fairly typical of their early sound but good

7 Fontaines D.C. - Sundowner: I love this whole album but don’t particularly see this as the single that should have been

8 Texas - Like Lovers (Holding On): not something I’d seek out but a nice understated song

9 Years & Years - Ties: a solid album track but the singles were far better

10 Bananarama - Bad For Me: this would be around 5th for me in the solo male round but doesn’t stand out enough here

Wonderful to hear another one of those glorious soundscapes from M83 <3 shadowshow certainly sounds like a big blog hit with a video so surprised that wasn't a single! I liked everything here to some extent, stop all the shade to this category xx

Good songs from the top 3 and that Sade song was a nice discovery, better than the singles I know by them. The M83 tune had a promising start but didn't really develop beyond that.

LEAST FAVE

A mixed bag to say the least.

Always adored Ties - think it was my favourite album track from Communion so lovely to see / hear it again

Probably the best song from iamamiwhoami so far!

M83 I also actually really liked; it was giving me Planet Earth vibes. However it absolutely did NOT need to be that long!

The bottom 4 could have ended up in any order really. But it is what it is

The synth-pop trio have all had a top place from me now - I already knew this New Order one - but it's another top discovery from iamamiwhoami. A striking one from Sade too, though very sad. I charted that Fontaines song in 2024 - didn't stand out quite as much listening back, but still good. The M83 song started off well with an 'Outro' vibe, but went on for too long and thereby drifted some way from the brief - there's no way it could have been a single. Everything here is at least OK though! #altfactor #tumbleweedcategory

Not the greatest round. Solid top 4 though. I like 5 and 6 was decent. But the rest were just boring to me.
