Massive congratulations to @Scene on the win, you played the game so brilliantly with Avril and although you had me sweating thinking Avril was done over with that choice at the end there, she pulled through I'll be in touch with you soon with the prize!! @King Rollo also deserves a heap of praise for Pet Shop Boys getting to second place! I wouldn't have called that at the beginning, and (unlike a-ha ) I've had some great discoveries over the rounds with their music when I otherwise wouldn't really give them the time of day. @Addy! did brilliantly with Christina too and managed to recover well with some choices that saw him in danger. And I'm ngl I was kinda rooting against Xtina in the final to save having to worry about how to convert the prize into USD for you !!! I honestly really didn't expect there to be so much interest in this or for it to take off the way it has, so thank you so much to everybody for all of your involvement, enthusiasm and support. @Tafty has been an amazing support of everything to do with this behind the scenes, and has so many great ideas for where we can take it from here. This week we celebrate BJSC's 18th birthday! The contest was established on 23rd November 2007, making Sunday just gone the big day! Happy birthday BJSC and thank you for all the amazing memories, great musical discoveries, and the friendships it has helped to form. Patrick Wolf's The Magic Position peaked at number 69

I've said this before and I'll say it again, the "mockery" of people is rarely to do with the core point. We can all agree, when I responded to the "Manchild tanking" calls last week, that Liam was correct that Manchild WAS declining, that it seemed likely it wouldn't be #1 because of this, and it looked likely to continue declining. The same can be said of Dior this week, Liam is again correct - it's down 60k/70k on last week, that bodes badly for it making #1 on its best opportunity yet. The mockery of members in here is often because people make "click bait", reactionary statements akin to The Sun newspaper headlines you see on Facebook. People are forever describing things as "dropping off a cliff", "catastrophic falls", "distastrous debuts" etc, whether it be Ed, Chappell, Sabrina etc this year alone. These threads would be so much better to read if people had levelled conversations and mature discussions that weren't so full of exaggeration and intensified negativity, because it's clear most of you are passionate about the charts, you're clued up about what's going on and you're able to notice patterns in statistics etc.

Here's one I made earlier as I knew a 3 hour 30 minute show would batter my brain: First and foremost, a huge congratulations to @gooddelta! I think it's been 11 years since you last won BJSC, so before my time competing. I must be your lucky charm at the moment as you won my edition of the Pop Forum Song Contest this year too The return of FSR Rontvia at the top is a story to root for in itself, but I really liked 'Luukered' as a song too, gave it 10 points. You of course mentioned that you were one of the people who originally tried 'Fleeting' this time, so hooray that your back-up still went on to smash instead! I had no expectations for my own entry this time, no shocks that it's my worst performing of the year so far, but thought I might as well take more of a risk with the safety net of an AQ. I’ve been so absorbed in the process on the whole that my own result didn’t really matter. Thank you to everyone who pointed it though - especially Chez, Jacob and Mattias for the medals, glad you enjoyed ‘Blu’ so much <3 As for my own medals... I'm pleased Sovarasma climbed into a respectable top 20 position in the end and Cumulonimbia finished top 10, was particularly exciting when the latter was in the top 2 at one point. Justice for Pestolia but at least I got to finish next to them *.* I voted for 6 of that top tier this time - with the aforementioned Rontvia and Cumulonimbia, plus POPHub, Elëdan, Kathaldazia and Danæviia, so plenty to be pleased about up there. I was a bit sad when Persephonia departed the top 10 after spending a while in there, but top 15 is nothing to be sniffed at of course. I was nervous about hosting this time, as it had been a good 4 years and I can be a bit of a stresshead perfectionist, but I think this contest has finally made me feel more secure in my hosting abilities. I wanted to be an organised, hands on host but tried to take it a bit slower behind the scenes this time and thankfully had a lot of fun with it in the process. Thank you to everyone who entered! I loved observing the discussions (and joining in where appropriate) while watching the results unfold. It will of course feel like a relief to have completed the work that goes into hosting but overall it was a positive, unforgettable experience for me. Bring on the final contest of the year ❤️

I have had a few days to decompress and get over last week – honestly, most of my problems were work-related, so going back to my hotel and needing to open Google Sheets made me want to go full CHAS Anyway! Buzzjack's nightmare of a collab lol

Bracing myself for the Buzzjack circle of a big popstar release. 1) A huge day 1 that's branded an underperformance regardless of whether it's good or bad 2) A day 2 drop off followed by cries of flop, no matter how the album holds 3) Certain users who complain that they're so bored of the stagnant charts then complaining when Taylor gets 3 songs in the official Top 10. It's an exciting time!

I think the margain of the win should go some way to explain why I thought this might be a good contest to test out an alternative vote reveal on, FLJ took the reins early and just galloped away. Also, the worst thing about hosting was that I hated repeatedly having to type out every country with an accent, an umlaut, or anything else in it. You all made my life hard!!! I know copy/paste exists but sometimes I just want to bash out a country name quickly with my own two hands and that's where I appreciated the likes of Skall, FARC, and Oslol x

Even if most of my votes ended up bottom half, I cannot complain at that winner considering I gave it the 18! It was exciting to host and be the deciding vote even if I feel awful for blacksquare as they've been sooooo much help throughout the process. I really appreciate everything you've done to help @blacksquare and I hope you can forgive me 🤣😝 Erika Jayne outdid my expectations because I was expecting dead last. Maybe she'd have even qualified after all in a traditional semi final?! I thought it'd pick up a few votes from pure pop voters but some of those abandoned me and it got some surprise votes from the likes of Klum Rep, Scotland 2 and Eledan which I wasn't expecting! It's been fun to host but also super stressful, haha. I don't know how poor Lew does it every few months 🤣 It was very intriguing to see how votes come in and change things as they go on. For example, I couldn't believe how long it took FSR Rontvia to get points during the semis when I thought it was such an immediate standout. Sorry I couldn't keep up the movie theme for the finale but I promised I'd have results done by 10pm and I kept my promise !!!! Thanks for all the nice comments throughout my hosting experience x

Yassssssss! I'm shocked! I know it had lots of contender hype but it's so against the grain of the winners we usually get (both in terms of genre and repeat artists) that I didn't really expect more than 6th-10th! Thank you so much everyone who voted for it, that's a great margin too as I expected this contest to be so close but a few songs did break away from the pack. I was one of many to try and confirm Fleeting, and had it got through it may have won, but it's a lot more satisfying to win with something that nobody (apart from I believe @uhsting and @matto ) already knew. Also the first Estonian language entry becomes the first winner for the language, which is crazy! I have sent some incredibly niche stuff over the years, trying to explore new genres and languages, for my own amusement as much as anything else, and you just never know what is going to hit and miss, so it's very satisfying that one of them finally went all the way! ❤️ Two months after Korku came quite close. Thanks so much @Jade for amazing hosting and presiding over this memorable month. Will comment on the other results shortly but yes, I will do my best to host it, even though December is manic, so it might be a bit less of a spectacle than if I'd won in the summer, but will see what I can do! If mods could let me know what I need to do r.e. Google Forms for confirmations and dates, that would be great because it's just been so long...but I will start it soon so it doesn't too close to Christmas, so get your final entries ready. And it's BJSC 180, so as Matto said somewhere else, do something different if you want, do a complete 180!

To add some very early lore from the first 10 contests: Boyan introudced BJSC to the forum back in late 2007 - we collectively didn't really understand it for the first year so you'll see plenty of UK No.1s and classics among the first year of entries before people universally realised (for the most part anyway) that it was a great tool to discover new music rather than sharing existing hits. Many people self penalised anyway so none of the big past UK hits ever won. Damon/Frahliso sent a 15-year-old artist called Charli XCX as early as 2008 though, so he got the inspired memo early on. In true BJSC fashion, it was a DNQ. Some early winners and 2nd placers became hits several months after they were sent (Love Song, I Kissed A Girl, Just Dance). BJSC had another long break between the 5th and 6th contests, the 5th being the first one I hosted (starting to wonder if the semi to get rid of three songs had an effect here, although I was proud to host the contest's first ever semi final 🤣). However I somewhat redeemed myself by helping it back from the brink when I suggested pulling the 6th contest forward (iirc a date hadn't been set for it yet after some months) after hearing the song Smack Me by Untouched on a free CD I got with Music Week and being desperate to send it and not wanting to wait for ages. The track finished 5th. We used to go all in with the fantasy with our countries and the national threads. We had things like a gossip/chat show called 'Loose Lingerie' (it was based on Loose Women...the 00s were really something else) hosted by Maria Haukaas Storeng and Mira Craig, where countries could book a slot to promote their entries and lots of fun, hype and gossip would ensue. It looks like I'd been let loose on Photoshop for the first time for the banner. Talking of Mira Craig, I sent her in quick succession for a second time in BJSC X, which was effectively the contest that ended that formative era. A lot of the nations who had been there from the start saw their first DNQ, including myself and @Silas - who sent a fan favourite Sugababes album track. Meanwhile, my entry Headhunted I was so sure would win that I installed it at the top of my OWN odds - I think I deludedly said it could be a No.1 single for Pussycat Dolls. All this self hype caused a lot of discussion about it on the forum (roughly 50/50 for and against the song, at least 20 posters commented on it one way or the other and I put some of the very funny opinions in my signature for a while - I particularly enjoyed Martin's 'I don't know what the other members are smoking') only for it to come crashing down spectacularly with a DNQ, although I really needed the dose of reality looking back, although I still love the track. The eventual results in the final also showed an early changing of the tides, with new countries, genres and sounds doing well and coming through. The second year on had a very different feel to it than the first, with the introductions of early attempts to veto stuff, although several of us had called for procedures earlier than that, especially when we nearly had one of the contest's all-time great early winners, Will You Remember Me Tomorrow by Margaret Berger, being beaten by P!nk's So What, which had started to get airplay and was quite clearly heading for the top in the UK in the coming weeks when somebody cheekily sent it. I've realised through this that having an online footprint from nearly 20 years ago available really makes you appreciate how much you grow up over time.

Insane 🖤 Reading the results this morning, and I knew Night Tapes had won the moment @Brer seemed disappointed by the prospect of it — it's Persephonia tradition I thought 'Korku' had it in the bag at first — and it would have been amazing to see FSR Rontvia back on top after such an eclectic, standout year. 'Loss Is Not Infinite' fully turned me into a Little Ront 🖤 So thrilled to see Aeroche, Fljótavík, Kathaldazia, Cumulonimbia (still not over that clash), Elëdan, and Jadakissnia all deservedly smashing the top twenty. Utopia nearly sneaking into the top ten is probably my biggest surprise (obsessed), and I love that something so quirky and alternative can smash too. Cor Lupus finally getting another hit — tough year for them. Altyr Muunilinst sounded like a huge hit to me, not sure what happened there, and I hoped Herbilore X Julia Fox could reach a new peak together. Bronzil far too low, amongst some of my other indie faves 🖤 I cannot forget to thank @dandy* for taking those calls and managing those filing cabinets. Also the most iconic points reveal, along with @uhsting I need to collect my thoughts today and decide if I actually want to host because spreadsheets are not hot, cute, or sexy. This happens EVERY tme there’s a big new telease. You have all been here long enough to notice patterns in new releases and how they debut high then fall around a similar percent the following day/continue “decreasing” on Sundays too (Monday’s update). In rare circumstances will you find a ‘driver’s license’ or ‘APT’ where they actually increase their streams the entire/most of the week. Even then they don’t debut at number 1/top 5… Every time there’s a big release you all have the same conversations over and over and over again. It’s boring and whenever anyone points it out that it’s a decent hold/expected drop, there’ll be someone trying to downplay it in one way or another. None of you can let even the first weekends go by without making these silly comparisons. It just feels like you’re all racing against each other so you can be the first to say “told you so!!!!” It’s just wash, rinse and repeat at this point. It’s boring.
