October 4, 201114 yr Author To be honest I can't see Rihanna at #1 on Sunday, she will be 4 days behind when released and usually most people download on a Sunday as they always look frontloaded by the end of the day, so technically Rihanna has lost massive sales on a Sunday, plus been released Wednesday midnite she probably lost about 60k to 70k, probably more depends how big it could have been (Sun to Weds). In a nutshell to artists releasing new singles they should release on a Sunday not midweek, as tracks lose a lot of sales. I predict #4, at a push #3.
October 4, 201114 yr Music week report Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger looks set to break its five-week run at number two on the singles chart this Sunday, as the track, which features Christina Aguilera, nudges Sak Noel from the top of the singles chart in Tuesday's Official Midweek Chart. It will be the eighth week in the Top 10 for the Maroon 5 single- which, to date, has received little support from Radio 1. The track is currently 8,000 units ahead of Loca People, last week’s No.1. Elsewhere, there is little change in the Top 10 singles. with former X Factor contestants One Direction and Olly Murs moving up a position each in the midweeks, the former up from No.4 and the latter up to No.7. Dappy and Jason Derulo look set to slip one place, into No.5 and No.8 respectively. Only Polydor/Interscope duo LMFAO are expected to break up the Top 10 reshuffling this week, with their third single Sexy And I Know It climbing from 20 – 9 in the OCC midweek charts. New entries in the singles chart come from Marina & The Diamonds, currently places at 19, while Florence + The Machine’s first single from their follow up to Lungs, Shake It Out, and Charlene Soraia’s Wherever You Will Go, are both anticipated to debut in the midweek’s Top 20. Songwriter/producer Skylar Grey’s Invisible and Darren Hayes’ Black Out The Sun are the only other new entries in the top 75 singles in this week’s midweeks, but with less than 100 sales separating Alexandra Burke’s The Silence from entering within the Top 75, this could well change as the week continues. Meanwhile, Sinners Never Sleep – the third studio album from Surrey band You Me And Six looks set to debut at number one on the OCC album chart, with the record 3,000 units ahead of last week’s winner, The Awakening by James Morrison which slips to number two in the midweeks. Other new entries in the top 10 include Island signing, Ben Howard, with his album Every Kingdom, and Lady Antebellum’s Own The Night at five and six respectively. Tomorrow’s World by Erasure, Metals by Feist and Revival by Answer all look set to enter within the Top 20 while DJ Shadow’s The Less You Know The Better, Katherine Jenkins’ One Fine Day are expected to debut inside the Top 20. Other new entries in the album chart this week include Roots Manuva’s 4Everevolution, Union’s Siren’s Song, Justin Lennon’s Everything Changes, Paul McCartney’s Ocean Kingdom and Camo & Krooked’s Cross The Line. October 4, 201114 yr Author I've added something new to the update, all the new entries within the top 75. The info has been ripped out from the mid report on page 1. I know MW have a top 75 midweek chart, but they always post the top 40 online, hopefully some changes are afoot.
October 4, 201114 yr And just so you know we don't have the full top 75, so no questions abotu things outside the top 40 please.
October 4, 201114 yr Great to see NI rockers The Answer in the top 20. Their lead singer Cormac always comes into my Asda to buy things. If they stay there until Sunday, it's possible that they could actually outpeak (but definately not outsell) Two Door Cinema Club's album.
October 4, 201114 yr Ugh. Seeing LMFAO at #9 and Skylar Grey "Top 75" makes me feel physically sick :(
October 4, 201114 yr I for once am happy with a LMFAO song being top 10, SAIKI is such a catchy song lol
October 4, 201114 yr Looks like Rihanna may well pinch Maroon 5's #1 again by releasing midweek. Only time will tell if it will be a Umbrella/Makes Me Wonder fiasco again. :P
October 4, 201114 yr Bah, Rihanna can have the no.1. If the last couple of months is anything to go by, no.1 certainly isn't everything. I just hope a no.1 can last for more than a week soon.
October 4, 201114 yr That's quite possibly the most poorly written report I've ever read and that's saying something because it's always awful. Anyhow. I acknowledge Maroon 5 are #1. #22 is higher than I expected Florence + The Machine to be today, they are actually still climbing on iTunes so I'm hoping by some miracle it can still go top 20. Although it'll be knocked down a place by Rihanna of course. It'll be embarrassing if it doesn't chart at at least #24. Fantastic to see Example registering a climb with Changed The Way You Kiss Me at this stage, hopefully it can hold on to get an 18th week top 40. Can I have the position of Stay Awake today please? I did sort of expect YM@6 to be #1 today, 3k lead is bigger than I expected also. I hope for their own sakes though that it misses #1 as it'll have an appalling chart run - their last album dropped out of the top 40 from #5, 'Sinner Never Sleep' could potentially be challenging Christina Aguilera if it does get to the top. It'd be nice if we had some actual sales info instead of just the lead to gauge roughly how likely it is that Adele will challenge for #1 - I think James' sales are probably still sufficient enough to be ahead for a second week a la Kasabian but Adele could very well be ahead of him next week. And she'll definitely be back ahead of YM@6 as well next week so she'll be back at #1 then unless one of the new releases (Evanescence, Jason Derülo, Katherine Jenkins) stops her. [/ramblyparagraph] How on Earth are Lady Antebellum still notable enough to be challenging for a second top 10 album? I was under the impression the few people who did care stopped caring after 'Need You Now' (which coincidentally is back in the iTunes top 40 for some reason, although 'Just A Kiss' is also top 100 so could possibly get a new peak this week (previously peaked at #83)). 'Own The Night' is #1 on iTunes Albums as well. Oh dear at how poorly Paul McCartney's new album is doing. It's just four very long classical songs but it's a new album by Paul 'The Beatles' McCartney, surely it should be top 40 at least on that alone! Edited October 4, 201114 yr by Bré
October 4, 201114 yr I bet NOBODY knows Macca has an album out! I didn't and I work in the business. And Rihanna won't be number one, the single is not that well received PLUS Cheers is the one played more atm.
October 4, 201114 yr Author Fantastic to see Example registering a climb with Changed The Way You Kiss Me at this stage, hopefully it can hold on to get an 18th week top 40. Can I have the position of Stay Awake today please? 20+5
October 4, 201114 yr Gah, YMA6 won't hold on. Bré is right, it would have an appalling chart run but it would be hilarious seeing Nirvana and Pink Floyd re-entering one week (two classic albums that have sold gazillions but never made #1) and then the next week an album to enter and have the chart run 1-33-68-OUT. I'd like to think they'll be top 2 though, James Morrison held up very well last week (given he was less than 10k ahead of Kasabian on Tuesday and ended up being miles ahead) so he should be fairly well ahead of Adele. Here's hoping for Evanescence next week! I have found it's common to have a few limp weeks just before the Q4 rush (Editors, Barbra Streisand and Phil Collins going to #1 in the last three years spring to mind).
October 4, 201114 yr Didn't expect You Me at Six to be a contender for #1 - I'd much rather see them achieve their first number-one album than have James Morrison return to the top spot. Great to see an all British T5 though - with Sheeran holding strong at #4. Biggest annoynace is at Kasabian dropping 2-7, I was expecting it to hang around the T5 for a little bit longer, perhaps sales during the week will push Ben Howard up and let them climb back to #5. Singles-wise, I'm quite happy at the lack of movement. Maroon 5 finally getting the #1, One Direction and Olly Murs on the climb. Only one new entry inside the T10, Marina and Florence both debuting inside the T30. Only thing to look forward to now is seeing where Rihanna and Calvin can debut - hopefully it won't be at #1. Anyone else shocked that 'Iris' by Goo Goo Dolls is set to be a non-mover at #3? It's currently on sales of 504k - so another two weeks in the T10 will mean it's due platinum certification.
October 4, 201114 yr By the way, what is that Katherine Jenkins album in the top 30? It's not in the new release schedule, her new album is out next week and it's titled 'Daydream', not 'One Fine Day'
