October 17, 201213 yr And she is...? She has only two hits pretty much elsewhere in the world (Bleeding Love, Better in Time). She's not exceptional by any means. She was globally huge for a while but only because of the fantastic song she got from Ryan Tedder. If the rest of the world don't think she's special, why should UK treat her like a national treasure? Yes but we're only talking about the UK here. Who she is is an act who has sold 3.5 million copies of her first two albums in the UK alone, I don't believe anyone is treating her like a national treasure but going on her sales history.
October 17, 201213 yr Well only time will tell which of us is right :D Of course. Hopefully it will be me. Although your prediction is only until the end of the year, where as mine is until the end of the campaign (which is likely ending late next year or early 2014). :)

October 17, 201213 yr That depends surely on the success of the singles though? :P She's touring the UK in April/May of next year, so that will be the earliest they pull the plug if this becomes like the Echo campaign all over again lol. She was globally huge for a while but only because of the fantastic song she got from Ryan Tedder. If the rest of the world don't think she's special, why should UK treat her like a national treasure? She's quite big in Germany. "Happy" went top 3 there and "Run" went to #3 in 2010 after being used on a talent show and stayed on the German top 100 until the middle of last year, being one of a few songs to spend more than a year on their charts. Not to mention 2/3rds of her record sales (albums and singles) come from outside the UK. :) Edited October 17, 201213 yr by Envoirment
October 17, 201213 yr I just checked myself and you're right, the absolute bombing of Collide made me think that she was over in Germany.
October 17, 201213 yr Ouch at Adele, down to no.6 already and likely to fall further. I'm very surprised at just how quickly this has tailed off. I can't see any chance of no.1 now, even with the inevitable boost it will get when the film is released. It would have to be a Massive* boost, coupled with a *very* quiet release week for that to happen. It's #5 on iTunes, so I don't think it is going to fall further. I could even see Lawson slipping behind officially.
October 17, 201213 yr I just checked myself and you're right, the absolute bombing of Collide made me think that she was over in Germany. "Collide" was never pushed outside the UK due to its underperformance. It was just released to itunes was all. The album could be a success in the likes of Japan and Germany, two big markets, if they actually push her material over there ("Happy" went top 10 in Japan). Leona hasn't been pushed/promoted outside of the UK since Echo.
October 17, 201213 yr 4 years is a long time to be absent, no matter how you look at it. Hope she'll do better than Nelly Furtado at least (worldwide I mean) Edited October 17, 201213 yr by SKOB

Well it's been falling steadily on popbars all week against Calvin Harris who can hardly have been increasing much, so I would certainly expect a further decline this week.
October 17, 201213 yr If she only sells about 25k this week it will be a bit of a disaster though. People have been calling Cheryl a flop all year for getting much better first week sales. People still call Matt Cardle's album a flop even though in did almost thrice that first week at about the same time of year. I won't say that she's over, but she should be doing much better. Do you just like calling things "disasters"? I saw you saying that to a One Direction fan to the other day, even though the song sold like 70,000 that week. All those albums you mentioned did well. Edited October 17, 201213 yr by Eric_Blob

All those albums you mentioned did well. They did do well, but get branded flops by a lot of people here. On One Direction I said it 'could be' a disaster if the track doesn't stick around considering how popular they're supposed to be. 25-30k albums sold for Leona this week will be a let down no matter how you spin it. I just wish people would be a bit more realistic.
October 17, 201213 yr You would expect that any serious artist BAR NONE could at least maintain one tenth of their opening album sales over five years - Spirit did 375k so Leona's going to miss that, and it's disastrous no matter how you look at it.
October 17, 201213 yr Glad to see Disclosure moving up and the success of Tyler James. Does anyone know why John Denver with "Annie's song" is re-charting, although likely to drop out of top 40 by Sunday?

That was five years ago, sales are very different now. It also lead with a monster single and she was "back" for a year hiatus after the X Factor. Totally different, 30k is disappointing, not a disaster. Echo only sold around 500k so if this can get near that it would be good.

If it achieves half of Echo's total I'll rescind my statement but I can't see it. And sales haven't fallen THAT dramatically, particularly in Q4.
October 17, 201213 yr If it achieves half of Echo's total I'll rescind my statement but I can't see it. And sales haven't fallen THAT dramatically, particularly in Q4. They've still fallen, and the single not being nearly as big as 'Bleeding Love' really doesn't help. It's an uphill battle, but I imagine sales will stabilize a little.
October 17, 201213 yr I suppose when you think about it, Spirit was a very long time ago and even Echo was 3 years ago now. In the modern day pop world, that is essentially a lifetime. Until a few weeks ago, I didn't think Leona's third album would even get released. As for its overall sales, I think it'll struggle to scrape 100k unless they wheel her out for another slot on X-Factor (I suppose they inevitably will). She'll have zero interest outside of X-Factor season and a single released outside of that period would struggle to go top 40 so they should probably milk it for all they can.
October 17, 201213 yr So I had to go and do some research on Jake Bugg and...OK he's not as sleep inducing as Ed Sheeran. But he is still, man with guitar and he makes regressive music.
October 17, 201213 yr Does anyone know why John Denver with "Annie's song" is re-charting, although likely to drop out of top 40 by Sunday? Its being used in the 'TalkTalk' advert and returned to the charts last week for the first time since 1974 at #49
