I thought hacking a murdered girl's phone and making extreme false accusations against British soldiers was a real low for the British media. It was then that things really should have changed.

The Leveson inquiry was a real wake-up call, a massive opportunity wasted to bring the UK media into a professional standard.

...which the Tories chose to ignore.

The Tories. Those politicians controlling the pro-Tory press. The ones that use propaganda to get them elected. Murdoch. The mand that closed one of his papers for doing what you are complaining about. Massive Tory fan. Gets them elected.

Do you actually READ newspapers!!!?

That was a car crash. They're clearly going to dig their heels in and defend his actions no matter what, so let's just pray it means they've crafted their own downfall.
Or maybe the British people don't give a f, and have more important things going on in their life.

This is the British mainstream media playing their silly games.

Actually those of us who have lost family members during this time and couldn't go be with them as they were dying, or attend their funeral are absolutely livid that this man decided to take his potential COVID-19 on a roadtrip. I hate very few people but he has become one of them stupid idiot of a man, get him sacked now!

Dom Cummings did not break any rules, so why is your grandfather so disgusted?

The rules quite clearly were to #STAYATHOME

- Stay in your main residence this does not include trips to second homes, holiday homes / caravans, homes that you do not live in.

- If you have symptoms of Covid-19 to self isolate AT HOME for 7 days

- If a family member in your home has symptoms to self isolate AT HOME for 14 days

What part of he broke the rules can you not understand?

That was somehow even more of a shambles than I expected, not a single coherent answer given (and nothing said about whether he went up to the castle even when directly asked...) and basically confirming that yes, it's one rule for us and another for you all. Plus, trying to dress it up with the schools starting, which was horribly ironic coming straight after defending someone who put his own child in direct danger. It would've been a classic comedy, The Thick of It style, if it weren't reality.

How can he honestly expect people to ever follow his advice again? It seemed like when I was out this week, there was barely any distancing going on anyway and people think the lockdown's over so I expect that will just carry on, fun times we live in.

Everyone on my Facebook is absolutely foaming at Boris for sticking up for Cummings, never thought I'd see the day (I'm from Blyth which famously voted Tory at the most recent election after only ever voting Labour, AND voted for Brexit). Not one person I've seen so far is backing this issue.

Yeah I'm expecting the city centre to be a lot busier from tomorrow after what's just happened.

I was saying to my partner earlier that I thought Malcolm Tucker was a powerful man in The Thick of It, until I saw Dominic Cummings. Unelected bureaucrat!

He is literally the real-life version of Tucker - the only thing that would have made it all more iconic is if they did sack him, only to have him come back as soon as they realised how much they needed him.

Twitter is going wild, it seems even Tories are fed up of Johnson.

I really wish we had an independence referendum ASAP because Nicola Sturgeon has truly smashed it. Boris is a shambles and he needs to stop saying UK when it’s just England.

tee-hee

On a serious note, could this really be a turning moment? Pretty much universal condemnation. And it won't go away while Cummings still works for the government.

If this isn’t that moment, then surely that moment will never come?

Haha my partner works for the Civil Service and just said that it'll be fun logging into work on Tuesday morning!
According to Sky News, Cummings went in to No.10 to see the PM around 1pm but no word of any news still yet.

Well this has been a f***ing hilarious thread to catch up with. The sheer delusion on display here from the person I’m still not 100% convinced isn’t Craig.

I’ve not seen a single person anywhere on any social media defending this. My pro-Brexit tory voting parents don’t think it’s defendable and are making points like “well how can only one person from a household go into Tesco at a time?” - although they’re still happy to stick to Sturgeons advice, in spite of what they’ve historically thought of her.

That joining the eurozone was a good idea.

I must have hallucinated. I missed the part when the UK joined the Eurozone.

As a person who now lives in a Eurozone state (arguably THE Eurozone state) I have to say that I bloody love it. Makes shit so easy and convenient. Schengen, Single Market & Eurozone - they’re all just wonderful wonderful things that have improved my life greatly.

I didn't realise there was a final boss after Chris and Vidcapper.

I actually snorted and then proceeded to cough up one of my lungs laughing at this

Are you for real?

Try thinking for yourself rather than let someone else do it for you.

Always find it so hilarious when bootlickers such as yourself try and accuse people of not being able to think for themselves without a hint of irony.

I do wonder what opinion polls/the government's ratings will be like after this fiasco and how the situation continues to develop. From my understand the government's approval rating was in decline and this may just make it drop off a cliff edge.
Look I know you love to see Brexit as your little 'people's coup', but the measure of media power is not their predictions, it is their endorsements and editorial views. Of which about half of were for all of those.

The biggest democratic decision in British history and you call it a "little people's coup"

Honestly you have to admire moving a bit of punctuation (and turning it American) to completely distort what Iz said.

Twitter just goes on and on:

Rafael Behr

So the Prime Minister is now telling the nation that those who stayed at home, ill and afraid, when they might have been elsewhere chose isolation because they just didn't love their family as much as Dominic Cummings loves his.

Sathnam Sanghera

People. Couldn't. Hold. Their. Dying. Children.

Rebecca Front

Ok all. The PM makes it clear. By STAY AT HOME they meant DO WHATEVER WORKS FOR YOU. This is a sickening insult to those who stayed away from dying relatives and mourned alone.

Keir Starmer

This was a test of the Prime Minister and he has failed it.

It is an insult to sacrifices made by the British people that Boris Johnson has chosen to take no action against Dominic Cummings.

Jess Phillips MP

I guess at least we now know what a protective ring looks like.

Richard Osman

We're being taken for absolute mugs. Our parents, our kids, our carers, our health workers, every one of us. It's such a sad day.

Emma Kennedy

That’s it Boris Johnson.

You’re done.

John Niven HQ

Most disgraceful performance by a British PM in my lifetime.

Marina Hyde

He did go to Barnard Castle then. Presumably to stop the spread of the virus. What a f***ing hero. What a joke.

David Baddiel

Nice to have the worst father ever tell us what a good father would do.

Gary Lineker

Please. Stop. Lying.

J.K. Rowling

Watching Johnson. This is despicable. Parents all over this country have abided by the lockdown rules, even while ill themselves. Hundreds of thousands managed toddlers while shut up inside cramped accommodation, purely for the common good AS THE GOVERNMENT TOLD THEM TO DO.

emily maitlis

The damaging thing about this whole issue for gov is that Cummings instantly loses any right to tell others they are out of touch / elite / missing the public mood. That’s properly over now. He has become the thing he loathed.

and on and on and on.

The Emperor Has No Clothes, and the goods that Cummings has on Johnson & Co must be absolutely career-ruining, cos there's no way any PM would choose to support an arrogant entitled employee that has so infuriated public opinion left and right. They'd sack them in a flash, every single PM ever has always done that. Cummings must be SO special to Johnson....
