Surely the only way they'd get people to stick to rules is if they have an increased presence with police and finings?! There has been literally zero and people getting away with all sorts, if people know they aren't going to get in trouble for it, why would they abide?!

Talk now of community marshalls questioning people who are out and with the power to even follow people and issue fines.

That will go down really well. They better be used to some nasty language like F off many times" :o You know how traffic wardens get abuse.

Assuming that's true (which I'm not sure of, I've never heard of any 'community marshalls' that have power to issue fines and harass people), this is a stone's throw away from fully adopting snitch culture and having countless of power abuse incidents especially if these people are not trained (which I would believe to be the case). You constantly get regular Karens harassing POC who are minding their own business, I don't think this will go down well at all without proper training and preparation. And tbh people who volunteer for this type of things tend to think they already know everything :')
I'm not prepared to religiously stick by all the guidelines for 6 months unless everyone else is.

Dominic Cummings didn't. Why should we ?

For a virus that has an IFR of <0.05% for the young and healthy!

So Boris will announce tomorrow that all pubs will close at 10pm and this will be strictly enforced by police and councils. I don't see how that will really help. I drink at home but say you know it's closing at 10 surely you'd go at 8 or 9 so it'll be busier earlier? Better to close them all for another fortnight or so.

Covid level back up now to 4.

So they basically want to make it look like they are doing something about rising cases as well as getting the money from pubs being open as they know people will just go out earlier.

Yes, basically. Think the pub industry has pleaded with them not to close down completely. As well as jobs threatened they lose millions of pints of beer, lager and cider as it has a short life of just a few weeks and only days once a keg is started.

More patrols too to ensure they're enforcing social distancing and the rule of six. If they're not they can be immediately closed by the council's emergency licensing powers.

They don’t have a clue what they’re doing but it’s so hard to listen to them going on about ramping up fines when they all rallied round Cummings back in May.

If there is another lockdown I’ve decided that I will continue to see my family if I’m still expected to go into work. I will simply not refrain from seeing my loved ones if I’m still forced to spend all day with up to 150 children when I don’t know where they’ve been, who they’ve seen or what they’ve been doing. I followed the rules last time even though I live alone but if it’s ok for me to go into work, it’s ok to see my family.

I constantly have no words with this government.

So, if you or your employer can afford it, you’ll be able to carry on as normal. If not? Oh well. Private firms continuing to rake it in — with public money during a pandemic.

Private healthcare interference starting earlier than we thought it would yay...

It so annoys me when I go on the tube or in shops and I see people not wearing masks and I know nothing will happen to them and so they'll just keep doing it (I'm aware some are exempt, but it's pretty obvious when that's not the case I've found). I understand it can be difficult to enforce and some staff aren't trained for it, but there needs to be more of an effort made if we're gonna make any noticeable difference here. Other countries have managed it.

Think you have it spot on there.

Ah well, I suppose it's one way of making sure the government don't have to worry about meeting their ludicrous ten million tests per day figure.

For the first time since deaths were rising so sharply in April I’m feeling scared...I understand they have to do something because people my age just aren’t gonna follow the rule of six, I haven’t personally met up with more than six people outside of school since they announced it but lots of people have and there’s parties etc planned for the weekend. Stating the obvious lmao but it’s all a mess :( When I do feel myself worrying, I just think about the hospital numbers which are still very low, although rising slightly. Although tbh we keep taking about France and there, death rates are rising really fast. It feels like a total guessing game as to what will happen, I worry we could be at 100+ deaths sooner than November D:

On the other hand however, I think unless there’s a bigger spike than the first wave, a second lockdown should not happen at all. The current situation is bad enough, we can’t put our lives on hold forever for something that unless you have specific conditions or are very old has virtually zero chance of harming you. They should look at bringing back shielding imo

Edited by Andrew.

Don't be scared. Even if theres 50k cases a day that's half what we had in April, treatments are better than it was then, and at those rates immunity will rise fast.

You’re totally right, tbh I’m not scared at all for my health or anyone in my families, more scared about what a second lockdown would do to us collectively. I’m starting to think the first lockdown should’ve been extended an extra month or something

To be fair they have clarified that

The 15-minute tests will be available for free to people with symptoms as a replacement/supplement for existing swab tests.

However, it says something that what we thought was the orginal proposition seemed perfectly plausible for THIS government.

Its not just some young people to blame but anyone who is holding house parties or other non socially distanced gatherings, why can't they understand that having a house party, and then going to a supermarket after the 14 day incubation period (or maybe even before 14 days), is putting any older people or people with underlying health conditions who come into that same supermarket at the same time or just after them at considerable risk. Or do they just not care? There needs to be some TV or online advertisement showing this scenario.

I disagree, having pubs closing by 10 is probably the right thing to do. It will detour more from going out (especially with Universities returning) to drink at home. The problem is with pubs outside of London, Track & Trace is just not operated efficently and there is naff all social distancing in many pubs with queues of people. It won't cut the infection rate, but I think it will have an effect.

In terms of the supermarket thing, how are you all doing it these days?

I use one hand to shop with and sanitise it before I get my wallet out, sanitise my bag and the top things in it before I leave, and then wipe down all my groceries when I get in before putting them away.

I'm starting to get the sense that if it's spreading in supermarkets it's because people aren't being careful enough?

The Coronavirus rules have been extended to all on Northern Ireland now, which doesn't really change much for me as I was already in one of the postcodes affected by last week's ruling, which basically means I can visit my parents at home but no-one else, and shops etc are still open as usual. I hope it doesn't become a full lockdown here, I'm not sure a lot of people would take it well.
