Being from Nottingham I've obviously seen and heard quite a lot about the Xmas market over the weekend. I think it was utterly daft to open but a shame to close it now the set up costs have happened and traders have got all their stock. It can't be that difficult to make it a more Covid friendly environment with some form of ticketing system that allows controlling numbers easier.

The outrage is similar to that of images of various mass outside gatherings over the summer when there were far fewer masks as the wearing of them hadn't been encouraged, none of those caused spikes and I don't see this one doing either. I also think if it's safe to open indoor shops in a tier 3 area then outside shopping is safe enough to be allowed too!

I was at Westfield in Stratford London at the weekend and it was RAMMOED.

London is going in to Tier 3 shortly. The numbers are all there to see..

It will be every weekend until Christmas now, Covid or no Covid. Most people don't seem to care anymore and are more interested in Christmas. Just my opinion. We went in both the big Tesco Extra and Asda on Saturday afternoon and it was jam-packed too. No social-distancing whatsoever but most did wear masks.

London's numbers are already higher than areas in tier 3 so don't see why they'd suddenly put it in tier 3 if it isn't already but then this is the current gov so who knows.

Are the supermarkets not controlling how many people can be in the store at once?

Not here, no.

I’ve only noticed a queue outside a supermarket (if Waitrose counts) once in several months. However, nowhere I’ve been in has been particularly crowded.
They are indirectly controlling here by mandating entry only with trolley/basket and then restricting the total number of those to match the total number of permitted customers

Yeah same around here. Though we do have someone at the door because people are too stupid to work the automatic kartwash so occasionally we catch someone trynna sneak in without. Claiming they didnt know despite it being mandatory since march. A mess

It's only crowded here Saturdays and to a lesser extent, Sunday lunch-time. I usually go in week but went cos we needed tins and bottles and had the car.

So that's why there are never enough baskets and I've to wait for a shallow one every time!

Dose 1 of 2, she'll get the second dose in 3 weeks (29th December, Merry Christmas!) and the effectual immunity begins 28 days after the first innoculation.

I’ve seen Kaufland protecting the entry to the shop floor like a bouncer at a club 🤣🤣🤣

We have not the automatic cleaning thing tho. That would be so handy.

I can only speak for my local supermarkets in Berlin, but some have removed baskets all together and are only using trolleys

The Oxford vaccine is safe. Unlike the Pfeizer vaccine I think only 1 dose is required, and 100 million doses have been ordered by the UK, so if it gets regulatory permission it would really help to speed up the roll out here.

The Oxford vaccine is also two doses. Even if we have 2-3 vaccines available and ready to use, it'll still take time to get everyone vaccinated as it won't be until ~1 month after the first dose of the vaccine that you will get immunity (Pfeizer gives immunity 7 days after second dose).
