December 1, 20214 yr I think it's a bit of a flop for Gary, Robbie did his Xmas album 2 years ago and opened with 70K Edited December 1, 20214 yr by Bjork
December 1, 20214 yr At least Gary has his wine range to fall back on. I wonder if that's at all reminiscent of his music - over aired with a hint of stale cardboard.
December 1, 20214 yr I think it's a bit of a flop for Gary, Robbie did his Xmas album 2 years ago and opened with 70K Gary as a solo act has never been as big as Robbie though, it's not really worth comparing them.
December 1, 20214 yr We never get Cliff in the top 40 over Xmas. I’d rather see him in the top 40 than Mariah

December 1, 20214 yr Wizzard is more a bode to Phil Spector! Then Slades peak was 2000 when it was a generation after release it’s popularity now if obv affected by the generations moving on and the fact it’s not bubble gum pop etc. The recording sounds fine tho, always will be my fav Xmas song!I just think it sounds a bit raucous these days for a Christmas song. It's certainly not subtle and it lacks the charm of the Wizzard song, which was in the top 5 at the same time when both were first released back in 1973. 'Step Into Christmas' by Elton John was also in the charts in December 1973 though it peaked at a lowly number 24. These days the Elton track is the most popular of the three. To me, it's the 'Step Into Christmas' recording that sounds poor. Elton sounds like he's singing in the bathroom, the acoustics sound awful! I think the song was recorded in only a few hours and it shows. 'Merry Xmas Everybody' was also recorded quite quickly, though over a few days rather than just a few hours. I used to love the Slade track but can't listen to it these days.
December 1, 20214 yr I think it's a bit of a flop for Gary, Robbie did his Xmas album 2 years ago and opened with 70K If you compare Gary's current album to his 12 Months 11 Days the album is a massive success.
December 2, 20214 yr I think it's a bit of a flop for Gary, Robbie did his Xmas album 2 years ago and opened with 70K Like Gary has ever been in Robbie's league
December 2, 20214 yr its gonna be a big battle between Xmas old classics and new generation. i think Adele is gonna drop eventually the xmas week but will it be by Xmas classics or ED/EL?
December 2, 20214 yr Adele has got to be the greatest artist in the world right now? Her numbers are really really impressive. So proud.

Yeh Eltons is played more these days mainly because he’s the biggest legacy act of the three but it’s the poorest effort and the chart peaks in 73 reflect that well. Slade we’re the biggest act of that time and that was their 6th number one of the decade which shows how big they were. Lyrically Slade is the best some of the verses are genius ‘does your granny always tell you the old songs are the best’ such a true to life lyric that!
December 2, 20214 yr I think it's a bit of a flop for Gary, Robbie did his Xmas album 2 years ago and opened with 70K He’s doing as well as I expected but certainly an underperformance - I think his last solo album lost him some of his core fanbase. I guess it will stick around for the next 3-4 weeks though and could add some healthy sales?
December 2, 20214 yr Adele has got to be the greatest artist in the world right now? Her numbers are really really impressive. So proud. Definitely the biggest artist in the world. Whether she is the "greatest artist in the world" is more a matter of personal taste. But I will say you could make a good case for it.
December 2, 20214 yr Adele needs to release a Christmas single while she remains so popular and it could be a song revisited for years to come.
December 2, 20214 yr Adele needs to release a Christmas single while she remains so popular and it could be a song revisited for years to come. I can't see that happening, she's not the kind of artist that would record a Christmas single. She's not Ed!
December 2, 20214 yr Like Gary has ever been in Robbie's league  He definitely was in 2013, when he released Since I Saw You Last. He outsold Take the Crown by a mile. :coffee: Edited December 2, 20214 yr by Voodoo
December 2, 20214 yr I can't see that happening, she's not the kind of artist that would record a Christmas single. She's not Ed! Think she might at some stage in her career - she did a James Bond theme. But I don't think it's a priority for her at the moment. It'll be when she wants to - no earlier.
December 2, 20214 yr He definitely was in 2013, when he released Since I Saw You Last. He outsold Take the Crown by a mile. :coffee: Actually both released albums in 2013, and did similarly: Swing both ways [747k] Since I Saw you Last [723k] Of course Robbie used to be huge but I'd say they're pretty similar in popularity right now
