December 1, 20214 yr To think Girls Aloud missed the top 10 with Chemistry which I think had over 30k sales and now it would be enough to get a number 1. Way more than that, it actually sold 81,962 in its first week. It got robbed of a top 10 place by about 250 copies. :(
December 1, 20214 yr Way more than that, it actually sold 81,962 in its first week. It got robbed of a top 10 place by about 250 copies. :( 16 years on and I’m still not over it tbh   The Pussycat Dolls sold 82,193 at #10. 231 copies between them. It’s worth remembering that new releases only had 6 days on sale in the first week. Top 10 (11th December 2005) 241382 Eminem 132632 Robbie Williams 124647 Westlife 111666 Take That 102947 Madonna 101157 Il Divo 94946 James Blunt 91035 Sugababes 83980 Kelly Clarkson 82193 Pussycat Dolls Information was unfortunately sparse a couple of weeks later in the Christmas chart: Top 5: 314553 Eminem 273183 James Blunt 262130 Robbie Williams 235970 Westlife 212322 Take That 132109 Will Young (#13) 64030 Mariah Carey - Greatest Hits (#25) 25687 Mariah Carey - The Emancipation of Mimi (#54) ^ The Top 16 sold 100k+ (Girls Aloud were #17 and apparently sold 99k). Supposedly the Top 98 all sold 10k+. What an amazing time for album sales

December 1, 20214 yr Slightly off topic but I forget that at times. Living in Australia we were out of lockdowns at that time and things for that brief period had gone to COVID normal. I guess with no lockdowns sales might improve this year. I think it's an optimist who reckons were getting to Christmas without a lockdown.
December 1, 20214 yr those old album sales are out of this world, Mariah selling 64K albums and only being #25 can someone kill Spotify so we cn go back to those days :D

December 1, 20214 yr i didn’t realise how long it took girls aloud to get a #1 album omg Similar to Little Mix in that respect, it's kind of surprising they only have one to their name (to date)
December 1, 20214 yr It had over 80k first week sales. My typo i hit 3 instead of 8 but it highlights how much the market has declined which is really disappointing as i really enjoyed the days when the whole top 10 albums for Christmas would be over 100k.
December 1, 20214 yr this is the Xmas album top 10 last year, #10 sold 9K... 1 NEW Paul McCartney 33,079 2 Taylor Swift 23,460 3 Michael Ball & Alfie Boe 22,348 4 Neil Diamond & LSO 19,309 5 Michael Buble 16,767 6 Gary Barlow 14,725 7 (RE) Eminem 13,889 8 Little Mix 10,084 9 Johnny Cash & RPO 9,607 10 Andrea Bocelli 9,513 Grim.

The market is in terminal decline now, the temporary boost we are seeing at the moment with consecutive big name releases and the Christmas boost won't last long into the new year.
December 1, 20214 yr Supposedly the Top 98 all sold 10k+. What an amazing time for album sales  *cries in lost album sales* And there you pretty much have why so many people used to release albums in the 4th quarter even if it meant a much lower peak
December 1, 20214 yr :drama: Imagine 80k and silver on release not being enough to crack the Top 10! Truly unbelievable today.
December 1, 20214 yr I miss big sales days in Q4! The first time I really was aware of big sales were at this time of year in the albums was when Rihanna’s Rated R debuted at #16! But that Girls Aloud example is another one what sticks in my head now (and I think Britneys In The Zone era too). At least this Q4 looks set to be an improvement on the last one I’m not sure on ABBA yet but can see both Adele and Ed doing at least double last years Christmas #1 sales. I think Christmas week will see Ed’s biggest week bar debut week and Adele might push or exceed 100k on Christmas week too ^_^ I wonder if Adele will do the Strictly final as promo? Edited December 1, 20214 yr by Jord
December 1, 20214 yr Adele should easily do double what Macca did to be #1 last year. Fingers crossed for another 100k week.
December 1, 20214 yr I wonder if Adele will do the Strictly final as promo? Current rumour is that she's busy prepping for the Vegas residencies so may not be doing any more in-preson promo. A virtual interview isn't out of the question though
December 1, 20214 yr Yeah, I mean since Someone Like You broke it big she's been restrictive with performances, so I doubt she'd do Strictly.
December 1, 20214 yr She did X Factor final with Hello though and Strictlys a bigger show than what that was in 2015 thats the reason I wondered if it was a possibility id assume the performance would be either virtual or pre recorded if it were to happen though  Edited December 1, 20214 yr by Jord
