December 1, 20214 yr It looks like Olivia Dean is the Christmas song that Amazon are pushing this year as it has a video out on Friday. It will probably miss the top 40 this week but I imagine it will be there next week. elD9V0Fd7gE
December 1, 20214 yr #2 will be either Gayle or Mariah then depending on the size of today’s boost for the latter.
December 1, 20214 yr Such a shame Slade aren't top 40, 'Merry Xmas Everybody' really seems to have fallen out of fashion the last couple of years and I'm not really too sure why
December 1, 20214 yr last time that point came up IIRC someone proposed its because it was ridiculously overexposed back in the day and people aren’t so keen on it now, plus the song and recording quality sounding very dated
December 1, 20214 yr Such a shame Slade aren't top 40, 'Merry Xmas Everybody' really seems to have fallen out of fashion the last couple of years and I'm not really too sure why  It still made the top 20 each of the last 4 years (I say 'still', the only time it was top 20 in the download era was 2007 where it scraped #20, it didn't even make the top 40 in 2010 and 2013-15), would hardly call that 'falling out of fashion'!
December 1, 20214 yr last time that point came up IIRC someone proposed its because it was ridiculously overexposed back in the day and people aren’t so keen on it now, plus the song and recording quality sounding very dated Yeah I reckon in all those years when it never factored into the charts, Slade was probably the most popular of the lot. The download charts show that The Pogues usually cams out on top most years but have fallen down the rankings more recently. This years streaming figures suggest that Wham might go on to overtake Mariah in the next few years so we could see another shift there.

This years streaming figures suggest that Wham might go on to overtake Mariah in the next few years so we could see another shift there. It doesn't help that Slade aren't on what appears to be Spotify's main Christmas playlist (Christmas Hits) whereas The Pogues are about 14 tracks from the end.
December 1, 20214 yr last time that point came up IIRC someone proposed its because it was ridiculously overexposed back in the day and people aren’t so keen on it now, plus the song and recording quality sounding very dated Yeah I guess that might explain it although I can think of a few other older Christmas songs that also fit that criteria! It still made the top 20 each of the last 4 years (I say 'still', the only time it was top 20 in the download era was 2007 where it scraped #20, it didn't even make the top 40 in 2010 and 2013-15), would hardly call that 'falling out of fashion'! It is compared to other Christmas songs though. In 2012 it was the 5th highest charting Christmas song and has been steadily falling down the rankings since then, finishing as only the 15th highest charting last year. So in that sense it's definitely falling out of fashion.
December 1, 20214 yr Amazing results for Adele! 75k so another 13.9k yesterday, brilliant stability, deffo on for 100k
December 1, 20214 yr Guessing Ed will just snatch the #2 album? he’s adding 5k+ a day and streaming will go in his favour.
December 1, 20214 yr I’m guessing Arrdee is at #7. Is there any hope Sam could overtake that? The fact he would be #6 today if they track hadn’t taken off in the Christmas period :drama:
