The Ed Sheeran signed CDs were sent out yesterday. Just got mine!

Presumably very close between him and Adele then.

Thats weird, cos Elton&Ed were miles ahead in the Mon mids

there was no need to send it this week

Not really happy seeing ed sheeran- one of the few best selling acts in the world- manipulating the charts. Wouldnt mind seeing this from an average artist being close to a milestone or smth

It's not manipulating the charts, the units have already been sold, so I don't see the issue with getting them added when it's most convenient for you.

If anything counting the CDs this week is actually bad for him, he was probably going to be #1 this week anyway but this would now make him less likely to get a second week at the top surely.

(It's possible that they'll still count to next week anyway though? Since we established now that the date of a sale being 'processed' doesn't actually necessarily line up with when it is shipped).

Oh come on, a certain act you're fond of spent YEARS manipulating the charts at the turn of the century. You don't exactly have room to talk on that one.

I don’t have a problem with Ed or anyone else taking advantage of chart rules - also artists can release as many formats, signed editions etc., as they like but getting people to buy them is a different story, if there is a demand for the physicals Ed is releasing then fair play.
I personally think it's nice to see artists who still care about the charts! We are all on here because we have a passion for them and I would rather someone like Ed want to be successful in the charts as well. Imagine if huge artists started coming out saying they don't care about the charts and just releasing whenever on whatever platform!

Surely he'd have sent them on Friday if it looked like he'd be No 1 anyway.

Remember artists have access to far more detailed data than any of us even on here have. The only reason I can see for sending them early is because he's concerned Adele's still beating him.

actually having the CDs on week 2 was the perfect strategy

releasing early is pointless for week 1 cos the #1 was 100% guaranteed

this is only gonna jeopardise his chances in week 2

but actually who knows when those CDs will count? :D not sure if they count if you release a release early... My Adele's vinyl arrived the day before the official release and pretty sure it counted towards her release week total...

NO OTHER SALES INFO

Ed & Elton have slightly increased their lead since Monday then. Not sure if that means some CD sales are indeed already included or if they just have enough of a lead on downloads, YouTube and Amazon streams to make up for their deficit on Spotify and Apple. Either way #1 is now in the bag for them if it wasn't already. Heard the song on Heart today and I like it more than I was expecting to, happy to see a new Christmas song heading for #1 for the first time in a very long time! (And I think it does sound like one that has a decent chance of being a recurring hit in future years).

Still very close between The Pogues and Shakin' Stevens I see... can see the reverse of last week happening with Shaky overtaking between the last mids and the final chart this time, although it could once again be coming down to it being close enough that it's unclear who should really be ahead due to the Thursday stream estimates.

Do you guys think that last year will be the first and only year AIWFCIY will be #1 in the UK?

I mean, this is pretty impossible to tell...!!

Quite baffling that the Ed signed CDs have apparently been brought forward given that they clearly aren’t needed this week.
The song doesn't do anything for me really but its nice to see Elton getting a #1 with an entirely original composition in 2021 and a brand new track is better than an old Christmas favourite getting back to the top again by default.
